Larger Oil Filter for 6.0L

Recommended Posts

Well GM use to use the PF59 on their trucks which is a decent size filter. I only have a couple of them left and the now recommended filter, I believe the PF47 you are referring to is way to small for my liking. I would also like to hear of any alternatives to the PF59.

Baldwin B1432 is the equivalent filter to the PF59. In fact if you look at a PF59 beside a Balwin B1432 they look identical except for the filter case color. The Baldwin is Red and the AC Delco is white.

They sell them in the U.S. as well. Go to their website (www.baldwinfilter.com) and you can find out who sells their filters. and if it is not listed give them a call. Hastings filters are also made by Balwin as well but just have a different part number for the same filter. Baldwin & Hastings are based in Kearney, NE.

Any one know of a larger oil filter than the PF47 that is on the 6.0L

Your 6.0 (Along with the 4.8 & 5.3) calls for a PF46,Not a PF47.

You can use a PF61 in place of the PF46,It is a longer filter like the PF59 was.

I bought a Mobil 1 M1-206 to slap on there...Sitting next to the AC Delco PF46, it's about an inch longer.

I'll be putting it on in a few days...See if it works.

the benefit of the original is less likely to be hit and damaged...if using a larger one then carry a spare. if using the smaller one then change more often.

I do nothing that hanging 1 inch lower is going to put it in harms way... that filter is way out of the way with alot more stuff hanging lower than that.

I've never had a damaged oil filter, but it's most likely done with a towing truck. An oil filter is the weakest link under the engine near the ground. It won't take much to rip it or puncture it. If it does get damaged the engine loses oil while it's running and only after you notice the idiot light will you shut down to save the motor. A larger, protruding filter hardly makes sense if you use synthetic oil, and with the oil life monitor system you should be using synthetic. Few will ever notice the benefit of switching to a larger filter.
