1998 Chevy 1500 Transmission Fluid Capacity?

Recommended Posts

It varies by trans and which trans pan you have. If you are simply doing a pan drop, filter change, and refill, the last one I did took roughly 6 quarts (including the quart of Lucas Trans treatment I put in it - I will stand by Lucas products). A larger pan will take a bit more.

When I did it, I simply went and picked up 2 1-gallon jugs because it was cheaper and I was certainly guaranteed to have enough fluid. When dropping the pan, be sure to catch as much of the oil as possible. Swap filters and get the pan back up and sealed. When putting fluid back in, mark where 1 gallon sits in the first container, then pour the whole gallon in. Measure the used fluid by pouring back into that container, and then roughly guestimate the amount left in your catch pan. If it's alot, you may need to use the whole other gallon, but I doubt it will be that much.

If you're doing a complete system drain and refill...I have no idea how much fluid is in there.
