  1. Haven't heard back from the engineers yet on the hole axle thing yet. I will let you guys know what I find out. About the tire balancing in the previous post. It may have been possible they put the tires on diffently then when they took them off. The offset balance may have been countering the oblong axle or carrier in the rear end. Onece put on in a different location or rotation it may be compounding the problem. Just a thought.
  2. Not the trailer, swapped out the tires on the side of the road, no change. Hauled it with a different truck no vibration.
  3. Zero vibration without trailer. With trailer vibration is light at lower speeds and real rough at 70. Shakes the entire truck. Hands shake on the wheel but it is the entire truck doing that as it doesn't feel like it is coming through the steering mechanisms. Similar to the videos recently posted and described by many of you. I did have the drone vibration when I bought the truck in July of 2013 but that went away some how. Crew cab Z71 5.3
  4. I MAY HAVE FOUND THE PROBLEM! I have been on this thread since the beginning but haven't seen any real solutions. Here is what I know. There is a known problem with oblong axle shafts which react with carrier in the rear end. Fortunately for me my truck only vibrates when towing my quads around on an aluminum trailer. Doesn't vibrate with a heavy trailer or anytime else. I took it in today with trailer and quads. The service manager road with me and said this is awful and said he would be on the phone 1st thing in the morning with gm engineers. I also heard through some friends that there was a recent training for mechanics dealing with this exact problem. My dealer didn't know any thing about it. The vibration that I am getting with the trailer is probably what many of you are getting with out due to tolerance differences. Service manager said he would get back to me by the end of the week. I will keep you updated. Fingers crossed.
  5. Just got a fire recall via phone (Dealer) and email(GM) . They also will be doing something to the sliding rear window, some other recall I didn't even know about. No word on the vibration. I might take the trip to Goodyear. If that doesn't work I am gonna park it at the dealer and let it idle. Lol
  6. Google Chevy silverado 2014 fire it is the first thing to pop up.
  7. My local dealer fixed a vibrating truck by replacing the front right cv joint.(I think that what they are still called) Unfortunately that wasn't the case with my truck, but may be with those of you who feel the vibration in the steering wheel.
  8. I been on and following this thread since the beginning I also have a mechanical engineering degree. So here is my take. There are mainly two completely different vibrations which are not related to each other being posted here. The first is obviously the higher speed vibration which seems to be related to improper wheel balancing. These new trucks are using higher strength steel and are more sensitive to Harmonic vibrations then ever before. Having your wheels and tires perfect is a must. The second is a audible vibration caused by the cylinder deactivation and exhaust. I bought one of the first in the area and had no issues concerning this until I had a computer update. Mostly felt when the motor is at a low rpm for that particular gear. I blame this on our governments mpg/emission laws. There are a few random problems mixed in the forum as well, (This is to be expected with any manufacturer) that resulted in a vibration. Hopefully GM will pull their heads out of their ars and fix these issues. As I mentioned before in earlier post my worst problem is hauling a light trailer. I think it's the tire problem magnified. Just haven't had time to go back to the dealer with the trailer attached.
  9. I posted this a while ago in more detail. In short light aluminum open trailer (two quads)=bad vibration. Heavy trailer (camper) no vibration. Service tech wants to see the truck with the trailer but haven't had time to waste yet.
  10. It's getting colder, check your air pressure. Mine dropped 5-6 psi in the last month on every tire. I have a 5.3 4x4 took a trip over TUG Hill and into the ADK. Round trip average was 23.6 mpg that makes me happy, happy, happy. I may have complained a lot about a vibration but GM did build a good truck. Customer service / communication sucks on this vibration issue, hope they pull their head out of their ars.
  11. Harmonic vibration? Next time you feel it listen. It sounds like a sub woofer at a low frequency. I hear it the most while in 4 cylinder mode. This frequency could be created in the exhaust, or driveline causing most likely the cab to vibrate. If the cabs of these trucks have a low harmonic frequency that matches a slight vibration in the truck it could amplify it resulting in us hearing and feeling it.
  12. I found this forum while researching a bad and I mean bad vibration while towing my atv trailer with two quads on it. (see prior post) That was the only time I had an issue. I took the truck to the dealer, they updated two computer issues and now I get the vibration that most of you are describing all the time. So it is obvious that that computer update has something to do with most of your problems. FYI I bought one of the first trucks in the area hence an old computer program. There are many problems with can produce a vibration. All of us here have spent a lot of time dealing with this. I had planned on purchasing the truck after the lease was up because it would only have about 20,000 miles on it. Now I am unsure of this plan because of any unknown damage this vibration could cause over time (fatigue). So where does this leave me. I have owned 9 Chevy trucks so far and nothing else. If I am not compensated for this that will definitely change. This is sad because I have a couple family members who work for GM. To the GM people who read this forum. It is time to let us know what is going on and stop leaving your loyal customers who have spent hard earned money on your trucks in the dark. It is one thing to have a problem, its understandable, it's a new production. It's another to not communicate with your customers and dealers. I say dealers because its pretty obvious they don't know either. Your going to loose loyal customers if you don't communicate soon if you haven't already. Sadly Disappointed P.S. At least give us another silverado when ours are being serviced for this issue it's what we paid for.
  13. Well it went to the dealer, got two computer updates and now it vibrates all the time. Going back later this week. I hope there is some compensation for putting up with this.
  14. That is my exact problem too. Not sure if you saw my post towards the top of this thread but I actually rotated my tires on my trailer in a Walmart parking lot because the vibration was so bad with a similar trailer. I am confident that this is a prop shaft issue and GM knows it. It will just be a matter of time before a recall goes out.
