  1. Just to be clear, I did not start this thread or post the picture to exploit this families tragedy. I only posted it because I couldnt wrap my head around a full sized truck folding in half as it did. If the mods wish to delete this thread they are more than welcome (I cant) but the photo is apparently on numerous sites on the internet. I just wanted to share the pic with you guys and gals since most of us here drive a k2xx truck. Now that I know this pic is real along with the backstory, prayers to all of the familes involved! Stay safe out there!!
  2. I found this pic on instagram and figured I would share it. I dont know if its real but if it is, all I can say is holy Sh!t
  3. How about the antenna wire? It passes through the firewall almost directly above the passenger side kick panel. If I remember correctly you can see where the wire passes through the firewall but you need to remove the glove box, top dash piece up against the windshield or the panel that is outboard of the glovebox. I think I can remember seeing it when I had mine apart, whether or not you can physically get to it easily is another question....
  4. I picked the truck up today at 3:30 after they installed the new radio module. I gotta say i'm VERY impressed with the way the radio now performs! I used to have it go from HD to FM with tons of static at least 15 times on my 7 mile ride home from work....tonight on my ride home, the HD signal stayed locked in with the exception of one time at a red light. At the light when it went from HD to regular FM, there was not a drastic reduction in volume and the regular FM was crystal clear!! I can't be more happy at this point! I just want to say thanks to TJay for working with the engineers! NICE JOB!! Also thanks to Turnersville Chevy's service department!!
  5. I took my 11/2013 built truck to the dealer on 09/14 so they could apply PI1288A. I told the dealer of the update and even gave them the PI #. They only did a software update and didn't replace the radio module. The HD and FM reception was slightly better but nowhere near what it should be. I spoke to the Service manager by phone and he told me to bring the truck back in so they could change the module. I took the radio module out of the truck and took a photo of it so I will know if it was changed. The part number for my module is #13592715 and it was made 10/2013. I then searched my radio module # online and found this link: http://www.gmpartsgiant.com/parts/gm-radio-13592715.html It appears that my module is now replaced by part #13592804, I would assume that this is the newest module. The truck is currently at the dealer and I am driving a Cruze rental with great reception. I went ahead and picked up a powered amplified antenna and a new connector from Crutchfield that will allow me to plug in a new antenna to the factory radio. If I get the truck back and the reception is still bad I will be bypassing my factory antenna altogether.
  6. While I do have to agree with you that HD radio does sound 10x better (when it stays locked in), I personally cannot stand it going in and out. GM obviously does not want to fix the HD feature on these trucks thus the reason its no longer available on the 15s... and yes the HD radio on these trucks should work, but at this point I would be happy just having my fm reception come in clear. I like many others can't stand taking my truck to a dealership, only to have them keep it for an extended period of time and come back with, "operating as designed". Its a complete waste of everyones time. Most of these dealerships use this line because they are incompetant and lazy...they simply don't want to dig into problems unless it is something blatently obvious such as a check engine light...I do understand that it would take a little time to replace an antenna wire but guess what, if thats what it takes to fix a problem thats what they NEED to do. This is why we have a warranty... It just blows my mind that GM won't step up and just take one truck, rip it apart, find the problem and fix it...then they could implement this fix on all other trucks having the same problem...its called common sense....why aren't the GM reps on here reading all this information and reporting it back to the engineers? By asking us to PM our vins and mileage does nothing for the group of vehicle owners with issues...they are trying to treat every case as an individual rather than treating the problem as a whole.. If the reps are reporting back, have some transparency and let us know whats going on...if they did they would look like rockstars, not a shady big business...just sayin I understand that issues such as vibration could be many different things, but to me everyone who posted about reception issues has the same exact problem...
  7. I found this youtube video showing a guy with reception issues in a 2014...kinda interesting.... if someone already posted this I will apologize in advance... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xljF6VSvHg
  8. Tjay, when you were working with engineers for a fix, were they from GM or Ibiquity the radio manufacturer? I am on my second 2014 1500, this one was built in Nov 2013. Radio reception is better but I still can't use the HD function. Even with HD turned off I have static interference on every station, some are much worse than others. I just got off the phone with Ibiquity and they are again saying that it is an antenna wiring issue and GM is aware of the problem... Not that you should have to, but has anyone tried opening the dash and completely bypassing the factory antenna wiring and mast?
  9. I just installed an undercover flex, got it from Autocustoms.com for $725.00. I have to say I am not at all impressed with the fit and finish of the cover. After slicing myself several times during the install, I finally stopped and removed all the aluminum burrs from every place where sheetmetal screws were used. There is also a lot of black sealant coming out from where the fiberglass panels meet the aluminum frame on the top side of the cover. The red handled locking mechanism on the third panel is very flimsy and held in place by 2 "U" shaped plastic pieces on the driver and passenger side. After opening and closing the cover twice, the plastic u shaped piece pulled through the screw leaving the screw still inside the cover. I was able to fix it but come on... The seal that runs along the top bed rail on the passenger side separated from the seal that runs across the top of the front bed bulkhead, so that will need to be re-glued. The plastic drain tube piece that slides into the front of the aluminum side rail came out on the driver side and will not stay in place. The foam protectors on the bottom of the cover that protect the cover from itself when folded both ripped in half and fell off. I guess I will be re-gluing those as well. And to top it off, after the install was complete, the cover leaks very badly, especially along the front bulkhead. I will be contacting both Undercover and Autocustoms.com in the morning. For what its worth I am putting this on with an under the rail plastic bedliner that goes over the front of the bed. Im not sure if there is supposed to be another seal that I did not get in the kit to seal up where the cover meets the front bulkhead. If anyone has installed this cover with a plastic bedliner let me know how you sealed up the front bulkhead.
  10. Does this work for you? I found it on the Autozone website....I would look at Napa too and avoid the dealer all together. The price listed is for a quantity of 100, I bet they sell individual ones in store. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/Dorman-AutoGrade-battery-terminal-bolt-with-shoulder-hex-nut/_/N-25tv?itemIdentifier=964709_0_0_
  11. NICE FIND!! I think your definitely on to something!! I just checked mine, that thing is very flimsy...that would explain the vibrations that happen only sometimes...and literally depending on which way the wind blows....i have to say my ride, especially at high speed has smoothed out with the Michelins but sometimes there is an unexplained vibration that comes and goes, its much more pronounced on windy days...its def not tire related I can tell you that...
  12. Everyone there is no need to panic about your radios! Please stop worrying! My FM reception concerns about the radio going in and out of HD as well as the static noise coming through the speakers...There is a bulletin out on this and it is "normal"....GM's "normal" and my "normal" have 2 entirely different meanings. I was told that maybe my HD signal where I live is weak. The wife's 2013 Acadia has zero issues getting and maintaining an HD signal, its quite clear as a matter of fact. When I brought this up to the dealer he said I cannot compare how an Acadia and Silverado handle HD signals...maybe the Acadia has a stronger receiver....ya think?? I asked about the static coming through my radio even when its not in HD; this too is apparently "normal". Well I guess I will just go out and throw a new headunit in the truck like I did when I was a teenager....oh wait you can't change out the radios on these trucks unless you want to lose the touch screen....I really expected better quality than this!!!
  13. Just dropped the truck off for FM reception issues. The tech confirmed that there was something going on and he would be tearing it apart. As always I will report back with my findings...
  14. Just so you guys know, I had my stock Goodyears replaced with Michelins. When I got the truck back from Elkins Chevy, it still had a horrible vibration above 65mph after 2 failed attempts on a traditional balancer, with 2 different brands of tires. I found that they kept adding weights to the existing weights that were already on the wheel. You guys need to be sure that ALL weights are removed from your wheels before the dealer adds additional weights to balance. I found a different dealership with a road force balancer and the truck is now smooth as glass with the Michelins and fixed in under 2 hours. It took 4 different balances, 4 trips to different dealers, 3 different balancing machines and 2 sets of tires before my vibes were taken care of. Not that you should have to but you could also take it to a tire shop that has a road force machine. Point being: Just because your tires are swapped out, dont give your dealer too much credit and assume that they did their job properly and balanced your wheels correctly. BTW if anyone is in NJ, the guy who runs the road force machine at Turnersville Chevrolet really does know what hes doing. He also took pride in his work, removed all my old wheels weights and even the glue. If your in the surrounding area and need a good balance it may be worth the trip to go see this guy.
