  1. ‘Day Gents. Re. black smoke and extra cranking on cold (-15 or colder, basically all freakin winter) start up. I too am experiencing this issue. Had it before and after the latest “flash” at the dealer. Was just wondering if anyone that has bolted open their exhaust flapper valve or removed it, are experiencing the same issues? My apologies if this question has been asked. I have read hundreds of postings and the mind has gone to mush, I may have missed it. Thanks. But, I still want to keep her. She just about has me trained.
  2. “At least when you get yours started you can drive it. Several times now mine starts but drive does not engage. Have to run through the gears 3-4 times before it will grab and go.” Interesting Mark. A couple of weeks back while running around town doing errands, on 5 tries at two different locations my truck would not go into park. I’m talking, roll out the driveway distance. The shift indicator showed that it was in Park. The only way it would go into park was to slowly be rolling then shift/ jam it to Park. Dealer looked at it, says its fine, they are supposed to roll before going into park. Where I come from we call that Heifer Dust. Temps were around -20. But I still want to keep it.
  3. 'Day folks. Just became a member and thanks for the all info that I have learned while truck shopping. Thought I'd pass along personal experience to the other frustrated owners. My truck was built Aug/2013. Picked it up end of Dec. it was towed by the dealer 3 times in three days. They had it for a week. According to them and GM, a batch of starters did not have a seal cured properly, allowing moisture in. so, when it was cold and it was cold, minus 20 c, the starter would freeze. The cure was to remove the starter cook it in an oven to dry it out and then bake the starter to cure the seal. Have had no starter problems since. Hope this helps some.
