  1. I only used Valero on a recent road trip. I am an exclusive Chevron user. However, I really do not want to start the fuel debate in yet another thread, there are plenty of them already. Thanks for taking the time to read and post though, it is appreciated.
  2. Thanks for the replies. I spoke to the service advisor directly and he checked the system while I was on the phone. The Vent and Purge solenoids are not considered major emissions components and therefore, will not be covered under warranty. It would appear to me that the testing / diagnosis is going to be well worth the $50.00 flat rate fee they quoted. Will update when I know more. But, if anyone else has any more ideas, I am certainly willing to listen!
  3. All, My check engine light came on last night when I started my truck to go home from work. The code it's throwing is P0446 - Purge or Vent Solenoids Defective. I need some advise as I would not expect this on a truck that is only 13 months old. BEFORE anyone advises, take it to the dealer, I have 40k miles and am outside of the bumper to bumper. Also, my wife took the truck to the dealership this morning with a print out from Autozone showing the code and failure description. The service writer told her that it would not be covered under the 100k warranty. So, I need advise on what to look at and possible fixes. I have read online where some folks were shelling out close to $1000 to have dealers diagnose / fix this issue only to have it come back, but most of those were on 2000 to 2007 Chevrolets. I cannot find any information pertaining to the K2 style. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!! If it matters, I live on a dirt road, only use Top Tier gas from Chevron / Valero, and only used E85 through 2 tanks. FYI...2014 Silverado, 5.3
  4. Forgive the ignorance, but by gutting the 3rd cat and re-installing the stock cat back would still make the exhaust a little louder right? Or, would it still be about the same noise level just with better flow?
  5. I would like to add to this thread. I have been noticing a clunk / thunk noise coming from the rear of the truck when traversing uneven terrain and bumps, mainly on the dirt road leading in to my neighborhood. I thought it was a shock as many in this thread have concluded. So, this weekend, I had someone shake my truck side to side using the rear hand hold stake pocket while I was under the truck. I found that it is deep tone metal to metal thunk on the backside of the passenger rear wheel. I immediately called the dealership and took my truck in. When I got there, the service writer went to get the tech who diagnosed this exact noise just 2 weeks ago as a heat shield. When I shook the truck for the tech and the sound immediately repeated as it it did in my driveway, he did not hesitate to tell me that it was normal for any solid axle vehicle to have slack and that noise is the slack being taken up. My wife and I both questioned him as I have not ever heard this type of noise (plus you can actually feel it when you put your hand on the center cap) and he swore that it was normal. I've not shaken any trucks on thier lot, but I will be soon. Has anyone else heard of this? Am I being paranoid? Is this normal?
  6. I thought I would chime in and share today's mileage. Just so it's known, my commute to work from my house is 3.5 miles of dirt road to 40 miles of freeway driving to 4 miles of light to light. I have a Silverado CC SB w/ 5.3 and 3.42's. My normal average has been consistently between 20 and 22 mpg hand figured at each fill up. I have now personally put close to 9k miles on my truck, so it has seen its share of full tanks to conclude the average. Today must have been a fluke or hte truck was in a really good mood. On the way to work this morning at mile 41 of my commute, I happend to look down and see my DIC showing....Well, if I say it you probably wouldn't believe it. So, the picture should say it all....
  7. Sorry for the multiple posts, I am just figuring out the picture process. I have included 2 pics of the driver's door, which is slightly worse than the passenger door.
  8. Any one else notice the back door not fitting right on their truck? I am assuming you are talking about a crew, and not the double cab? The reason I ask is because I have a CC and also noticed that both rear doors towards the bottom rear of the doors alos sits about an 1/8 of an inch out from the rest of the panels. My wife is the first to notice and when she brought it up to me, we went to the dealership we purchased our truck from for some research. Unlike you, we did not find any CC Chevs or GMCs where the rear door fitment was tight. All that we found is ALL of the rear doors were exactly as mine is. We just assumed that this was normal and I have not said anything to my service department due to the conclusion of nonscientific research. I will say that I have noticed several 2014 CCs on the freeways here in Houston and their rear doors appear to be the same as mine. Yet another reason we have not said anything. I've not rode in the back seat of my truck and cannot speak to whether or not there is wind noise due to the pertrusion of the doors, but my teen-aged son hasn't mentioned it. I would be interested to know if it is in fact supposed to be this way or not.

  10. It would appear that this has been answered, but I wanted to advise what I was told by my service department. The 2014's have a relay on the alternator that will "shut off" the alternator when the battery is fully charged allowing the pulley to spin freely similar to that of the AC clutch. When the battery charge hits a predetermined charge level due to discharge, then the relay will "turn on" the alternator to recharge the battery. This was done in order for these trucks to be more efficient in the fuel arena. Although, you do have to ask yourself that if the battery is constantly being discharged / recharged, wouldn't that shorten the life of the battery? Especially if it is not a deep cycle.
  11. EDIT: I just got off the phone with my service writer and was informed that they are replacing the whole cluster, not the DIC module.
  12. I was going to wait to post an experience I have had lately with my '14 CC LT, but might as well add to this post. I took my truck in to my dealership due to voice command working intermittently. After calls to GM Tech Support, the tech working on my truck "flashed" the radio. I received a call 3 days after dropping the truck off telling me all was fixed and my truck is ready. When I went in to pick it up that evening, the DIC was blank. The service writer and tech decided I was not takin gmy truck home. After more calls to GM Tech Support, a TAC case was opened and new DIC control module was sent out. Per my service writer on Tuesday, the part arrived and the truck should be good to go late Tuesday or early Wednesday. I followed up with the dealer yesterday, and was told the part showed up this moning and the truck should be ready to go late Wednesday or early Thursday. Well, it is almost lunch time and I still have not heard from the dealer, but I degress and apologize for venting. I did not experience the blank radio screen, but thought I would share that an issue with MyLink voice command lead to a "flash" which resulted in a blanking of the DIC. The tech did explain to me that the DIC control module probably had an issue that was pinted out by the updated flash on the MyLink.
