  1. This was the #1 reason I chose the GM over the Tundra and was my biggest mistake. I live in Northern VA and most of my driving is around town. In the 3 years I've owned the truck, I've averaged 15 mpg. However, when I go on longer trips on the hwy I get 17-20 mpg which is awesome but only happens a few times a year. The stated mpg are lies for the most part. The mpg numbers listed on the window stickers are designed to "sell" cars, not to be honest and fair with consumers. When towing I get 8-10 mpg around town and 10-13 hwy pulling my Suretrak 82" x 12' dump trailer with 2000lbs in it. If I can only 14 mpg with the Toyota 5.7 motor, that would be an even trade especially if I could dependably run this truck 300k+ miles with proper care and maintenance. I'd gladly pay the extra fuel cost per year just to have a dependable car. I loved this truck with a passion, I've had some awesome experience in it camping with my son and friends at the lake and going on my extended rock climbing trips. The fact that I can throw a queen size foam topper in the bed and sleep in it is AWESOME. I'll miss the comfort and bed space, but I'm going to take the loss now before all the value in this truck is gone. This forum has been a wealth of information and great people. Thank you to everyone for everything.
  2. If you smell coolant or see steam rising from the radiator while in the car, your radiator is cracked/leaking. I had my mechanic do a pressure test on the radiator and that was how I found out it was leaking.
  3. You're braver than I am Jim. Once I get burned, I kinda hold a grudge.... lol.
  4. Thanks for the reply, especially the last paragraph. You just eased my mind on getting the Land Cruiser or Lexus variant. To be fair all vehicles have their issues, but this one has started to spiral out of control for me. Every month for the past 6 months, something has gone wrong and I swear that this transmission isn't going to last much longer. This truck is like a gold digging woman. It looks so damn pretty but it will also do everything to empty your wallet. All I want is reliability and I guess I have to go to Toyota for that. It should've dawned on me sooner being that my mom has a 2004 Sequoia with 350k miles on it....
  5. My truck had the same issue and had replaced the radiator and it was still leaking, now they want $300 to finally fix a leaking radiator heater hose since it's not covered under the extended warranty. AC compressor gone as well, so make sure you get these items fixed or replaced before your warranty runs out. These two items alone WILL eventually fail and I think the radiator and labor is over $2k. AC compressor is covered under the warranty but I will have to wait 2-3 weeks for a "redesigned" part to arrive. This truck is gone the minute I get it back. I have to cut my losses before it really start to hurt. I hope the trans doesn't fail me before I sell this POS. Sorry for venting...just so tired of all the issues Sell your truck while your truck still has some value left in it.
  6. You should call and fight GM to make them give it to you under warranty. This isn't a localized issue. GM knows this is a huge problem and the reason I was told it was on back order is that they had to redesign the compressor to make it more durable. I am going to safely assume that ALL of the trucks greater than year 14 will have this issue. They just told me that it would take 3 weeks before they would get the part in.... 3 weeks without AC.....I hate GMC
  7. I won't be buying 1st year runs of trucks anymore. To be honest, the first year and a half, owning the truck was awesome. Then things started failing one by one. A GMC rep told me that the radiator was a big problem for them since it's a new and "very high pressure system." I'll keep you posted on the AC system: Per my own mechanic it's leaking on the right side of the condenser and the receiver dryer. The transmission got stuck in 1st gear and I had to stop and turn the truck off and put it in park and neutral a few times before it released... It is clunky and shifts hard sometimes. I've changed the trans fluids at 50k miles and just recently changed the differential. You should change your diff fluid if you haven't. Mine was black at 75k. If you are under warranty, get everything checked out before it runs out. The radiator alone costs over 2k to replace. I'm not sure if my AC is going to be covered under the extended warranty....anyone know? I purchased it at the GM dealership Either way, enjoy your truck. I love this truck, it's so damn pretty!!!!! If the transmission wasn't $#%^, I would keep this truck despite all the other issues. However if I was doing it all over again, I would look past the pretty blue color and rims and would go for the Tundra. I'm trading this in for a LX570. Apparently these are a lot more durable.
  8. Just hit 78k, so far had the radiator replaced and I'm going in for an AC compressor today... apparently there is a huge leak on the compressor. Plus the radiator is still leaking but GMC refuses to fix it because it passes the pressure test and they can't replicate the problem.... I've replaced "ALL" the fluids including trans, differential, radiators etc. Replaced the battery 2 weeks ago and I got new tires last year. Replaced the stock brake rotors and pads with Power Stop K6560-36 Z36 Brake Kit and this has to be the best purchase I've made so far for this truck aside from the cap. Stopping now is so much better than with the stock set up, although it is a lot dustier. I also changed the bulb to the Alla Lighting 8000lm Xtremely Super Bright 6500K These led bulbs are really good, much better than the stock ones. I have the LED fogs on as well. I had the HID in the fogs but they died. I started doing oil changes at 25% left with full Synthetic a while back and have notice it's a bit smoother than waiting to 5% oil life. I'm worried what it will be like once I get pass 100k. I just hopes the transmission dies before my extended warranty ends at 100k. I'm terrified to find out what a transmission costs to replace without.... I think I'm going to trade or sell before I hit 80k miles, mainly because of the problems with transmission. I've stayed ahead of all the fluids and servicing and I honestly don't think this truck will last much longer. It's really upsetting.... I think I'm going to Toyota and I'm not looking back. Wished I bought the Tundra instead when I was comparing the two....

  10. Just purchased a A.R.E. X Series cap with windoors, once I get it installed I'll post pics. I loved the looks of the Z Series cap, but that cap doesn't offer the side windows that flips up and slides. Things in the mail: Morimoto Mopar HID Kit 5k, VLED reverse led bulbs, VLED fog light bulbs and VLED back up light License plate. I will also be installing a front end mounted camera with 3.5" display (wireless) and hopefully that turns out well. Will post pics of everything once done. Things installed: Bedrug! Not a workhorse like the spray on lining, but awesome for minor stuff and camping.
