  1. My dealer told me they don't fill it up due to the fact that DEF is so sensitive about age. Once the truck is purchased they want you to get all the old stuff out of there and then put in fresh. My dealer filled it for free after I ran the old stuff mostly out.
  2. 502SS, I have not heard of that nor did I do such a thing. I just followed the instructions on the BB site.
  3. I paid $1180 for the black version to be installed at my dealer. I tow a 30' camper all the time so it was worth it for me. I started out with the Longview mirrors from E-trailer and they worked really good, I just wanted a bigger viewing area. They would probably be perfect for what the OP wants.
  4. I just had the dealer install mine and all the lights work as well. What didn't work without the programming was the defrost function of the new mirror even though it worked on my old mirrors. GM had to send my dealer some upgraded programming to make that work.
  5. I had DL8 mirrors and I ordered the upgrade kit through my dealer.I had it (mostly) installed today and it took two techs about 4 hours to do. Then I sat around the rest of the day waiting for some updated programming to make the heaters in the mirror work. I finally came home and they tell me that hopefully tomorrow they will get the updated software to make them work fully. I do have to say the mirrors look nice and are HUGE. It is going to take a little getting used to. It was also stupid expensive and I honestly can't believe I had to pay that much to get mirrors that the turn signals work in. I made my dealer do them just because I have under 10k miles on my truck and I wanted the warranty to carry over to these mirrors too. While I absolutely can't justify the amount of money they charge to do this upgrade, the mirrors seem like they are top quality. The glass is very clear and distortion free, the lower manual adjust mirror gives a great lower view and I feel like they really cover all areas behind me. So, if you have a bunch of money to blow, get this upgrade - I used the clip on mirrors for one season camping and I can't wait to finally feel safe pulling my camper again. I guess safety doesn't have a price, but this safety feature smarts a little.
  6. I also used to run the "cheap" stuff in my truck and my truck hated it! It would stutter and "felt" like it was struggling to go when I needed it to go. Switching to 91 (the highest in Idaho without a specialty store) fixed the horrible stutter and go issues. I have a log of hand calculated mileage since mile 4 (when I bought my truck) and it did slightly improve when I switched. Based on how much better my truck felt like it was running I have never switched back. I have now recently added a BB Tune and that solved all the other issues. Made my tuck awesome, and I even found out that Justin can make my truck stay in V8 below 50mph and in gears 1-4 so that if I am on a flat back road doing 55mph it can go into V4 mode and I can enjoy a little better MPG. I had no clue that had that kind of control in the tune. Saves me from having to deal with the constant switching around town and I still get the benefit on back roads! I am with the OP in this one - may not have added "power" but definitely made my truck run better.
  7. After 4 days with my BlackBear tune I will post my thoughts as promised. YES, this is long, but I wanted to be through and save people from having to ask questions. First, it should be noted that it took basically 2 weeks from the time I hit the order button till I got the e-mail with my tunes. Although that felt like forever to me, I was impressed with the quick turnaround. For those wondering the exact timeline; I ordered at the end of a day on Thursday, They ship it 3 day USPS so I would have had it Monday, but that was a holiday so I got it Tuesday. Tuesday and Wednesday it snowed several inches so I couldn’t record the data, so I did that on Thursday and sent them 30 minutes of recorded varied driving and the stock TCM & ECM files. Monday I got an e-mail from Justin that all my files looked good and he had my tune on his to do list, Thursday night I received the files. Loading everything and transferring to my truck was very easy and only took a few minutes. My truck is used for towing in the summer and my daily driver in the winter. I live at 4500 feet, so the highest grade fuel we have is 91 (unless it is some specialty station I don’t care to find) and I have run 91 since I bought the truck. The only modification of my truck is I added a MIT tube and dry filter. As my main point of this truck is to tow, I asked Justin to make it as aggressive as he could for a tow tune. I also (let the flaming begin) told him I didn’t care if he left AFM on as it doesn’t bother me at all and so he did. After installing the tune, my idle is silky smooth where it used to hunt all over the place. The way the truck holds gears a little longer and the slightly firmer shifts makes for a very pleasant driving experience going down the road. My truck also used to stumble when shifting from V8 to V4 and back and I was very surprised that I can’t even tell when it does it now because it is so smooth. I drive the same straight 10 mile road every day to work and I know where the V4 and V8 changes occur and what a difference the tune has made there. I’m actually glad I asked him to leave it on as my fuel mileage is already up 2MPG. One of my biggest complaints was trying to get on the interstates here. The speed limits are 80, so you really have to get going on the on ramps. My truck used to hit like 65MPH at a high RPM and just hold there, it wouldn’t shift and I had to let off the gas and after it shifted get back on the gas. It did it a lot towing too and really was annoying. Now getting on the interstate is amazing, the truck just went through the gears smoothly and quickly and I was above 80 before I even realized it. I was so happy that it just went from gear to gear and the sit you back in the seat feeling was fun too! Around town, the fact that it holds gears longer and doesn’t stumble up and down is really nice. Throttle response is quick and it nicely downshifts when needed, I don’t have to put it to the floor to get it to speed up a little. I have about 250 miles on it since tuned and I really am very impressed. Obviously the middle of winter I can’t get my camper and go tow it around, but I have a feeling that I am going to be very happy when I do. The only instructions I gave Justin were that I mostly tow and I run 91 fuel and I don’t care about AFM. I feel he made my truck what it should have been off the lot and that was money well spent to get the tune. Even for someone like me that tows and drives like a grandpa, the tune made a considerable difference. I have to give a big shout out to Justin at BlackBear (and all the staff) for making my truck fun to drive again and making me love it again.
  8. I can tell you I am checking my e-mail hourly waiting for the tune to arrive. I will definitely post my feelings and results once I get the tune loaded and drive it for a few miles. This is one of those catch 22's.... I want the tune now, but I know it takes time to ensure they send me the best tune possible for my truck. **sigh** I will try and find more patience. :-)
  9. Mine is on order and the wait is killing me!!!! I'm so excited to have this night and day difference that EVERYONE talks about!
