  1. yeah, i'm not worried about a little extra gas either. i was just looking to see if i should expect a 1-2mpg drop or a 4-5+mpg drop from that tire in that size, just to assess what to expect. thanks for the info.....
  2. i'm looking at those exact tires in that exact size, 275/70/18 for my CC Z71. How much MPG did you loose? i'm seeing that the BFG is something like 22lbs heaver per tire. i know i will take somewhat of a hit, but any rough idea how much? i put about 350miles/week on my truck and take road trips in it (1000 mile round trip a few times a year in all weather conditions).
  3. No, i ordered mine through Jegs. My kit was $319 to my door, came with the can, most hoses (missing the 1/2" hose for the valve cover crossover), the clean side separator and that bracket.
  4. No, i didn't fab that bracket. that;s what came with my kit. that bracket didn't look like the one in the videos or other posts so my hardest time with installation for figuring out where to put that bracket. i can get a better shot of the bracket if you want one.
  5. Well, finally got my catch can installed. here's my write up on it. My truck has 15,500 miles on it currently. Basically i followed the video RX Performance has for it, located here: The disassemble was easy. the hardest part was finding a mounting location. i was trying to keep the can as far away from the engine as i could, wanting to keep the can as cool as i could under the assumption that the cooler temp would help the oil condense faster and catch more oil. During disassembly i chose to remove the throttle body as well and check it out. as you can see, it was already getting plenty of buildup on it. After the throttle body was off, i did my best to wipe out the intake as best as i could. got about 3 out that looked like this. including some that had actual wet oil on them. guess it was a needed addition... Ended up mounting my can to the front of the radiator mount. seemed like a good place with easy access to the can for emptying. Heres a picture where i added the hose to the intake side. Sorry, forgot to take a picture of the PCV plug i disconnected but it was really simple once i had the airbox removed. I have the clean side separator and will put it on soon, however, the kit i got did not have the larger hose needed to connect the two valve covers together. I'll update once i have some miles on this to show what i've collected.
  6. This may be a dumb question, but what did you use to cap the other other intake fitting?
  7. From inside the cab or just with the hood open?
  8. Ordered my RX Performance catch can from Jegs 3 days ago and it just showed up. came with the catch can, hoses, hardware, and very surprisingly, the clean side separator, all for $319 to my door. The separator was shown in the image but just looked like some stock RX Performance image, so, wasn't expecting to get it as well, given on the RX Performance site, that piece alone is $99 plus the main oil separator is $389. Through Jegs, i got both for $319. hopefully i'll get time this weekend to install it and post some pics.
  9. Had similiar to this happen to me early this week. Drove about 80 miles in 4wd (tthrough the bad ice/snow storm Tennessee got). Next morning, truck idled rough, vibrated a little while driving. Mid afternoon took it out of 4wd and back to 2wd. Noticed it was still steering heavy and I could feel the front end still pulling a little and intermittently jerking. Went to a big parking lot and back up, turning wheels left and right while backing up. No noticeable sound or feeling during but as soon as I drove forward I could tell I was definitely in 2wd now. Never any messages in dash, no lights. But it was definitely still in 4wd even though truck dial indicated 2wd and I got the notification message about "switching 4wd mode" when I moved the dial from 4wd to 2wd.
  10. Truck was on level ground, not moving, foot held firmly on the brake. Truck lurched a little bit with each shift. Still normal?
  11. I've been having some of the other mentioned transmission "anomalies" such as abrupt 1-2-3, 3-2-1 shifts, a few instances where the transmission has almost felt like did slipped little. Random instances of abrupt shifts coming off coasting/slowing down and the clunk/thump in the rear end/driveline. I've never noticed this in other vehicles and our Hyundai suv doesn't make noise like this. Happened to back the truck up a few feet with the door open and noticed this. Is this level of noise normal or expected with these trucks? For this video I held my foot on the brake and was shifting between D and R. You can hear my gear shift lever chanting and then the loud clunk second later when the transmission changes. I've never gotten any warning lights or anything. I have noticed a few times where it seems to hang for a second before it actually shifts but never noticed the clunking before. Just seeing if this is normal. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj284/steven_sutton1/Mobile%20Uploads/th_20150220_150525_zpsaw7skusp.mp4
  12. Well, odd. today had what felt like my first transmission slip.... Towing trailer in tow/haul mode, maybe 2000-2200 lbs towing and about 200lbs in bed. Slowing down for stop light. light turned while i was at about 30mph, let off break and started to press the gas, RPM's went from 1100 up to about 2500 but speed did not change and it took about 5-6 seconds before the truck started to pick up speed. the delay was long enough that a car behind me nearly rear ended the trailer. there was no sound or anything else strange, other than a steady increase in RPM with no speed change. i could understand it searching for a gear but the length in time seemed to take longer than expected if thats all it was. also, would have expected a surge in speed once if found a gear, this didn't happen, there was no surge in speed, the truck just slowly started to speed up to about 35-40 while holding 2500rpm and then shifted, which i thought was odd.
  13. Sad to say this, but my 02 GMC 1500HD did this the whole time i owned it ('07-'13 and 130,000+ miles). I have the same popping and cracking noises on my 14 now. i had hoped they would have fixed this by now, didn't notice or hear it on the test drive, but guess they didn't. i'd love to hear of or find a solution, but.... mine seems related to temps, both inside the cab and when i change the climate control settings (temp change inside dash i'm assuming). Mine does it around the radio knobs/buttons as well as occasionally i hear it from the left side of dash, next to window, coming from that little change holder/garage door holder/whatever it is dish thats on the far upper left of the actual dash on the drivers side.
  14. 14 Silverado Crew cab Z71. I'm getting some rough/abrupt upshifts, clunks on downshifts, i've felt the drive-line lash a number of times when transitioning from coasting to getting back on the gas (gentile, not abruptly applying). I've also noticed that on a number of occasions, i've felt a surge or heard a clunk in the transmission/driveline when the trucks transitions from V4 to V8 (has happened with and without me being on the gas at). Also, twice now while driving about 60mph with cruise set, going up a long (but not overly steep hill, truck held 6th gear) constant grade hill, i've had it where the truck RPM would constantly blip instead of holding a set RPM to maintain speed. the Tach needle accurately represented these approx 200rpm blips as they were happening. The blips were happening about 1 blip every 2 seconds and were as best as i could tell, consistent in their frequency. i don't remember my exact RPM, but as i watched it, it went from running say 1400rpm, blip of about 150-200 rpm, just enough to feel the little surge of acceleration, the rpm would immediately drop back to 1400 and i would feel the truck start to slow a small bit, then another blip. i would watch the speedometer move maybe 1mph with each blip/throttle cut (Cruise set to 60, speedo jumping between 60-61). This caused the truck to start a rythmic rocking motion with each successive blip/cut. i ended up having to kill curise control. with cruise control off, i was able to hold a constant speed up the hill with steady RPM and throttle. Called dealer today to get a replacement key and fob (they lost the 2nd set so owe me one, 3-5 days to get one in??????) and mentioned the issues i've been having with clunking/lurching and i wanted to have them look at it as well. as soon as i mentioned the issues service rep was very quick to want to get off the phone and said we could set something up once they got my key in. more notable was the change in his tone/friendliness once i mentioned the trans issues (as well has HVAC issues its having, but another story). Out of curiosity, what is the standard operating temp for the trans? mine is pretty consistent around the 190-195 range. i haven't studied it, but with OAT between 40-70F, i'd feel that is a good generalization. This is with running the truck empty with just me in it, no cargo, no trailer and stock OEM tries. Its a little concerning reading all of these threads with trans issues. i had a 2002 GMC 1500HD CC 4x4 that i got rid of with 190,000 miles (130,000 of those were my miles), love that truck, smooth shifting, power, comfortable (for what it was). got the chevy based on my experiences with the GMC i had. Biggest concern i had with the '14 was oil burn with the V4 mode, but appears my concerns were possibly misplaced...... I'll update once the dealer looks at it. i'll be referencing this thread as well as the previously mentioned SB (i searched the GM site and my VIN does not show any outstanding recalls). Manufacture date 3/14 in mexico. Currently sitting with 3555 miles on it. Have been driving it since mid november. 5.3L, 3.42 rear end.
