  1. I'm about to replace my condenser because there is no way I'm spending $1.1K for this simple repair. I have a couple of questions though. The Murray unit I see at O'Reilly's is P/N: 7-4283 and it says it is an "A/C Condenser, Oil Cooler And Drier Assembly." What is meant by oil cooler? Is the condenser on these trucks a combination unit that is used for the A/C and a transmission oil cooler or something? EDIT: Finally found a video that touched on it briefly and it looks like my suspicion was correct that the transmission fluid is affected. I'll call up the dealership on Monday and get a quart so it's on hand for this job.
  2. Update: I picked the car up yesterday after having the antenna replaced for a $336 total. Perfect reception again. This is the XM experience I remember.
  3. Thanks for the replies. Yeah I would be comfortable taking the headliner down, but I'm going to opt not to do it. Dealer quoted $375 which seemed reasonable on the surface to me for a couple hours of work and a $100 part so I go back in for it to be replaced on Monday. The savings weren't substantial enough to justify dealing with the work myself. They found "water intrusion" when I took it in on Monday to get a few things checked and said the connections were bad as a result. They said the signal was there but the received couldn't get it because of water damage. This makes sense to me as well because I used to have nearly flawless reception everywhere unless the tree cover was very heavy and then out of the blue reception became horrible. I am doubting that offending cell tower all popped up basically overnight throughout the country lol. I say country because this issue is present between Ohio and Florida everywhere. If this doesn't fix it then I'll chalk it up to cell interference, but I feel hopeful that a replacement will help.
  4. My car is currently at the dealership getting several things serviced. One is the XM radio and the absolute terrible reception. Terrible to the point that I could be on a 6 lane highway with a 50 foot median and the XM signal would be spotty. They mentioned something when they updated me that they might need to order a new antenna since the Denali model has a paint matched shark fin. Isn't the painted part of the shark fin just a cover that I could swap onto a new antenna unit? I would think that I could buy the attached image myself and swap the painted cover over to the new unit, correct?
  5. Agreed that $150/year is WAY too expensive. For remote start and lock/unlock options via the app it should be $5/mo. Even though I use it daily, I will drop OnStar without hesitation if the cheapest option is $150/year when my 5-year trial expires. EDIT: https://www.viper.com/smartstart/serviceplans.aspx If you simply want remote start & lock/unlock then here is an alternative. It's $70/year with the downside of being a module you'd have to have installed aftermarket. My only concern would be battery consumption. I've had the Viper GPS system in the past (more than 10 years ago) and the battery consumption was horrible at best. If you left the car sit for more than 3 days the battery would be dead. On day 3 it was sometimes hit or miss if you'd get the car started. Never again will I deal with that. If Viper hasn't addressed that issue then that would for sure be a deal breaker for me.
  6. For those saying they like moog, will you explain why you prefer these over OEM? I currently have 70k miles on my OEMs and they are still working fine so I'm curious why I should switch from OEM to moog when the time comes to replace them.
  7. For people who find this in the future.... I had the exact some problem in my '15 Sierra after replacing my battery yesterday. I had 25 presets originally shown. I could set 11 but it wouldn't save anything else even though I had 25 spots showing. You don't need to go to the dealer. Go to the home screen on the touchscreen. Go to Settings>Restore Factory Settings>Clear All Private Data and then follow the on screen instructions. It says to turn the car off, open/close the door (to turn off the retained accessory power I presume) and then wait at least 1 minute before turning the car on again. Doing this I can now add radio favorites again. I first tried resetting the radio settings but that didn't work. I then tried the Clear All Private Data option and it worked.
  8. I thought I needed new pads due to some squeeking about a week ago. Ordered the OEM pads which weren't in stock. Then I took the wheels off and the old pads have at least 50%, probably 60%, life remaining. At 60k miles I was pretty amazed they had so much life left. So the new pads went onto a shelf in the garage for when they are actually needed. At this rate it'll be probably 100k+ miles when I replace them.
  9. http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/195861-my-8l90e-is-finally-fixed/ Cliffs: Have them lookup TSB# 14-07-30-001G or find the same if you have the the 6-speed. Even after a new transmission was installed for me I had very harsh downshifts. They performed 14-07-30-001F on mine and the problems instantly went away. I have not had a delayed engagement, harsh shift into gear, or harsh downshift since this was done on 12/29/16.
  10. Open it with Microsoft Office Picture Manager. Go to the Picture menu, select resize, choose large document. Resave and post.
  11. I am on my 2nd transmission now. Shifting from 8-7, every time, produces an unreasonably harsh jolt that feels like you hit a pot hole or neutral dropped it. It also does the 2-1 harsh downshift as well as when putting it into D from R or P. I've been to the dealer several times now and the keep telling me it's "normal." It's more frustrating being told it's normal as though to dismiss what I'm saying about the transmission because it's 100% NOT normal. No other car on the road shifts like this. It's unacceptable for GM to create a flawed product and then say that it's operating as designed. If that's the case then you designed the product wrong. I'm truly shocked that they even sell the trucks with these 8 speed transmissions. My only option is to spend money on aftermarket tuning now to get a transmission to shift the way any car should shift. It's very irritating having to spend money and lose my warranty to fix GM's problem since they are unwilling to produce a product the functions correctly. I would be embrassed if I were the engineers who designed this transmission software. I will say that when I get another new car I will be WAY more critical of GM's offering. I will not make this same mistake twice. I'm just hoping that, by then, they can figure out how to make a fundamental component work. Currently my truck is literally a rolling billboard for why not to buy a Sierra...the transmission is honestly that bad. The brother-in-law test drove it and said after, "no way am I buying that" and went out to buy a different brand. Every other person who rides in my car and experiences these thing is always like, "what was that?" I want to love this truck, but it's a flat out embrassment.
  12. The only time my navigation screen is on is when the 4 yr. old wants to watch the "truck moving on the yellow lines." Navigation in vehicles is a massive waste. Google Maps (with traffic)+bluetooth can't be beat by anything. I understand the OP's issue though with finding it crazy to pay for updates. They should just do over-the-air push updates and be done with it maybe every 6 or 12 months.
