  1. First off, I can’t find any definitive info on the proper steps needed to fix the air conditioner on my 2014 Silverado 1500 5.3. The ac compressor blew out and needed to be replaced. I looked everywhere online I could think of and found nothing except how to fix an ac system in general or how to replace the condenser. I put a used compressor on there and followed the steps in a video my dad recommended to me. We vacuumed out the system and added refrigerant. It blew cold but the compressor would stop and the belt would screech trying to turn the compressor. I forgot to mention, I have no experience working on an AC system. I do my own work but have never done an AC repair. So I figured the compressor was bad because it came off a wrecked Silverado and may have been sitting for an extended period of time. Well I bought a new one and installed it and it doesn’t even blow cold and the compressor is not turning properly, same thing it did before with the used compressor. There must be something I’m doing wrong. I followed the steps to get the system vacuumed and add refrigerant properly but there is obviously something I’m missing. I looked up the orifice tube and didn’t even find it for sale, I guess it’s implemented in a different way as other previous orifice tunes???? Are my only options, send to the shop and pay a ridiculous amount or pay the $600 to get the proper manual to do the job right? I knew I should have just but the bullet and sent it to the shop but people including my dad, who is mr at home mechanic, told me it would be a breeze. Maybe it could easy be if I could find the proper steps specific to my vehicle. Maybe not. I looked up the Silverado service manual and it’s $600 dollars. I don’t want to buy that. I also forgot to mention the reason I didn’t just let the shop fix it, because less than a year before this I had the condenser go bad and that cost $1200 to repair. So I just couldn’t bring myself to pay another $1000+ to fix it again so I gave it a shot. The dealership said over $1500 for a compressor repair and system charge, but they wouldn’t even commit to that and said it could be more. Now I’ve realized I wasted my time and about $400 on parts. I really don’t want to go to the shop but I can’t find the right info anywhere without buying that shop manual for $600. Does anyone have any input or suggestions. If it’s something that needs to be replaced I can do that I just don’t know what to do and can’t keep throwing parts at it. Please help.
  2. I used 4auto when towing a small trailer and didn’t notice any difference honestly. The gas mileage wasn’t noticeable either but I haven’t done too much towing in this truck. I would probably use it during rain or ice when towing. It’s only really helpful at takeoff and low speeds. It doesn’t do much for traction or control at highway speeds. I wouldn’t buy a 4 wheel drive specifically to use auto4 when towing but I own a z71 and it’s there so I will use it in low traction scenarios. My wife drives in 4 auto, and if you can’t drive in the 2hi without losing control, lol. You don’t have to challenge the manhood of those using 4auto. I have had my2014 in auto for months and months. It got turned on a during a good rain storm and I accidentally left it on for a while. I liked having that on. When I take off on a dusty dry road in 2wd the tires want to spin and you lose momentum and acceleration when merging. With 4 auto on the truck starts to lose traction and the other tires kick in and I take off nice and smooth merging into traffic. Can I drive without 4 auto? Yes. Do I use it a lot because it’s there? Absolutely, Even if it is perceived as not manly by ,WOOF WOOF manly men!!! I did tow Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. almost 60k with more tread left. These tires have never let me down. You are making wild baseless accusations. I vote give these tires a try and will have more money in your pocket and a good set of tires on your truck.
  4. Checking in here with 53,000 miles and counting. They still have good tread and all weather traction. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. This is how my Monday started. The ac compressor on my 2014 Silverado 117,000 miles. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. No need for that. Just note the brand and stay away in the future. I would use that ball unless it squeaks to bad Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. Tried to get a chat going and see what gm would do for me but they weren’t having it. I am sitting at 99,500 miles so they didn’t feel sorry for me. I paid $1198 out the door. That included my transmission service and when they replaced my leaking oil cooler lines (warranty) they gave me an oil change. I did pay but I am having to turn down the AC so I am a happy camper. 8. I am having my condenser replaced at the dealership now. The ac stopped blowing cold so I took it in. I was going to try to do the fix myself but don’t have the time now and I have never messed with an AC system. Dealership is charging me just under $1100. Also I took my Silverado in for a leaky oil cooler line under warranty so they gave me a loaner. They are changing a bell housing seal, the oil pan seal, oil cooler line and they are servicing my transmission as well as fixing the ac. They say the oil cooler line is on back order but it is covered under warranty so I am still driving the loaner, after a week. My truck is sitting at 99,250 miles so they can have it as long as it takes. I’m racking up the miles on the loaner, lol. The dealer says I will have a 2 year 25,000 mile warranty for the condenser so there’s that. It will be closer to a year for me as I drive around 25-27,000 a year. When the service guy told me what it was I had a moment before I was able to agree to have them do it. Most expensive repair I’ve ever done on any car, not being an engine or tranny. 9. I ran kumhos on my 1995 corvette. They worked great. Of course I burned them off pretty fast that is why I bought them instead of something more expensive but they performed as good as I could have hoped. Never a blowout or a flat and I beat on them. No experience with kumhos on a pickup though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Maybe that extra length is designed into the new ucas to give you a better angle? I don’t know just thinking out loud. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Oh yea, I forgot about that, bummer. I agree with keeping it factory looking too. I was looking at the alpine redesign stereo, I think it does dvds not sure about Blu-ray.It’s at $1299, but I can’t afford it just yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. You can get the unlock for your 8” factory unit and play movies from a flash drive while in motion. The dvd Blu-ray option sounds good but expensive. I have music videos and stuff for the kids on a couple of memory sticks. Again not great resolution but still very convenient and fun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I’ve got over 26k on mine. They still have a lot of tread left so I am feeling pretty good about them going up to or past 50-60k. To be [emoji817] I think the cooper discoverer at3s I had on my 2006 Sierra might have had a little bit better rain traction. Maybe it’s the more power of my 2014 Silverado 5.3 compared to the dog 4.8 in the 06. Either way I like the tire a lot. Paid around $800 for the LT275 65r18. That was before the $135 rebate and I sold the old cooper stt max that were on there for $200. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I was hanging out with an old friend this summer and he was telling me he added a couple of JL 10s in his 14 Silverado. So I hopped in and he cranked up regulators by Nate dog and warren G. He turned it up and it sounded great. He has the factory bose system with those JLs. So I hop in my truck and crank it to compare and my 1-12” JL tw3 had enough low end to compete with his 2-10s but his midbass absolutely destroyed my factory non bose speakers. I used to not like mids but nowadays I need more midbass in my life, lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. If I didn’t go with a custom ported enclosure and 12” I would still have gladly given up space under the back seat for something that bangs. In my double cab the space under there is NOT all the plentiful. Plus I have a bedcover so I roll with a toolbag, tool bins, my ice chest and straps back there. Closer to the subject, I don’t think that bose can stand up next to the kicker in low end, but without a doubt the bose has better midbass. From my experience getting the midbass to sound strong is the hardest part of a good system. I vote Kicker with Bose, lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
