  1. 2ND UPDATE: Ok, some trial and error (and beer) on this part. Epoxy makes a mess, don't do this on the dining room table like me, you'll get yelled at. I promise. I used Opaque white dye and clear epoxy... "Environmental Technology Casting Epoxy" Masking tape to cover the holes in the back. I poured it 3 times before I got it right. then put a top coat on top of that. mixing the epoxy correctly and keeping it warm while you do it is key. It has anti-gassing agent in it, so the bubbles come out of it. I then took a razor blade and began scraping off the epoxy on the outer edges. looks good so far.. now to try the led section of the project.
  2. Alright, i am still waiting for my epoxy dye to get here, so here is the first part of the experiment/build, pretty simple, i took alot of pics for anyone interested. they speak for themselves butyou pretty much just drill the plastic welds out from the back and remove the red letters. more to come...
  3. Well, I got the emblem on ebay for about 40 bucks shipped. came with the backing/mounting plate also. the resin and dye was another 26 bucks or so on amazon (prime shipping) I got cheap flexible led strips from amazon also, nonwaterproof so I can save space, I'll use waterproofing spray when i am done, and the connectors so I can cut/reattach pieces easily for a total of 12 dollars. I went with cheap led strips because I don't want extremely bright LEDs (for fear that ill have hot spots) and im using a driver i have laying around at home from when I built a 3 watt laser (you know, because everyone NEEDS a 3 watt laser to burn things they probably shouldn't burn). so total i have in parts is 78 bucks. if you add the cost of the driver you are maybe at 85 or so. we will see how it goes. any result is better than spending the 600 on it lol obviously will be much less if you have the gonads to give it a shot on the emblem on your truck without buying another. if I'm successful I'll put a build thread together, if not I'll let you all know.
  4. ok, I got my spare OEM logo, ordered some casting resin, and some opaque white dye, and some SMD LED's with a driver. as soon as I get some free time im going to give this a shot.
  5. This is the guy who quoted me $630 for the one pictured in my first post.
  6. Also, with a set of these, do your turnsignals function normally? maybe a dumb question, just havent messed with the headlights much so i figured id ask.
  7. So mike, if I pick up a set of these, a set of halos, and two controllers, ill end up with something very similar to your build correct?
  8. I couldn't find him on Facebook... can you give us a link?
  9. Out of pure curiosity (because I have some other things I want to spend $$ on first) what do you charge to do those lights?
  10. I'm thinking it couldn't be completely clear, it would have to have a clouding affect so that the light spread evenly.
  11. If I can get a logo for 50 or so, the leds wouldn't run more than a few dollars. I just need to figure out what I can use as the opaque portion that the LEDs shine through. Some sort of apoxy?
  12. You can find them/ instructions to make them for the Silverado... A guy online that I have been emailing CLAIMS he can do it.. but wants $630 just for the front one. Its cool, but not $630 dollars cool. I may buy a spare and mess with it. if you can get LED's in there, I see no reason why you cant get a Bluetooth color changer behind it Mike. I'm also itching to do your color change DRL's Mike, your posts make me spend money. Can I send you the bill?
