  1. To test and see if there is a sub, put the fader all the way to the rear and you will hear the sub cut off, then go one "click" to the front and you will hear it kick in. I have mine tuned with the treble all the way up, the mods one click off center and the sub three clicks from all the way up and it freaking rocks!
  2. My truck is VERY quiet....But I do get two of the very loud pops from behind the center LCD display and at first I too thought it was a rock hitting the windshield. I attribute it to just a nuance of these 100 degree Texas days and as the inside cools down the close tolerance fit of plastic parts do a little shifting.
  3. Funny....We just got back yesterday from Buena Vista, CO! I'm getting ready to make a new post with a grade card and a MAJOR concern.
  4. I run Mobil 1 Extended to 15k miles......The 5.3 Silverado I just traded in had nearly 215k miles on it with 15k oil changes...I had a Toyota Camry with 340k miles on it with 15k changes and zero oil consumption....When I got rid of the Silverado, it would be down about 1/2 quart at each 15k oil change, but it lived a tough life. The 3k "standard" is no more, technology in manufacturing and lubrication has come a long ways...
  5. In a nutshell, the Nav sucks! I did a 1300+ mile trip last weekend and it was horrible. I will continue using my Waze app which it usually accurate within 5 to 10 minutes on full tank runs.
  6. I just stumbled across this thread....I run 93 octane, I paid $2.68 the other day. Like what has been mentioned a few times, with 11:1 compression, detonation is an engine killer, so you need a slower burning fuel (higher octane). The goal to reach maximum efficiency in an internal combustion is to have a "flame front" that burns at around 100fps...Think of it as a controlled burn, rather than an explosion.
  7. I noticed it this morning for the first time (I finally drove with the radio off...lol). But once I drove several miles and got all of the driveline nice and warmed up, it went away. My guess is the sound I heard in mine was due to the increased drag in the driveline from a cold engine, tranny and diff.
  8. I just completed the install. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. My install took 1hr 20min, a bit longer than most on here it seems, but the aircraft mechanic comes out in me whenever wiring is involved. It went extremely smooth and I chose to solder my wires to the factory harness. The only hiccup, if you want to call it that is that the lock did not want to unlock with the FOB. I attributed it to the truck being new and the parts just not "worn in" on the whole mechanism. A quick shot of ACF-50 cured that. Thanks again everyone!
  9. Here is my take, but first a little bit of background on where I'm coming from, and I am sorry if this is long winded and seems to be rambling..... Before going to work in aviation, I worked as a sound engineer in live sound reinforcement (mixing sound for concerts) for 17 years, the last 5 year before leaving the "biz" I managed a production company. Our main sound system pushed around 65k watts of nice, clean Crown power. The system had 14 subs, each having two 18" speakers with 2400w going into each sub @ 4 ohms. Yeah.....It was bad ass to the point that I could blur your vision if I wanted to. So naturally, I love good clean audio and yes, after 17 years in the "biz", followed by 20 years in aviation (and nearly 6 years of photographing race cars) I have mild tinnitus and have lost a little bit of my high frequencies. BUT, I am a audio aficionado. I have found that over the years, people will tune their sound systems to what pleases their taste, which isn't always what the studio engineer intended when the song was mixed. My first impression is that the Silverado Bose system is pretty flat, but a little bit of adjustment gets the system sounding pretty good. Whether it is a car, home or concert audio system I have always used two particular Jazz songs to tune a system as they are sensibly mixed (not bass heavy). I've had the HC with the Bose for a little over 1 month and I am thoroughly impressed after a little tweaking. It gets plenty loud and thumps pretty good and it relatively clean. So when I found this thread, it definitely piqued my interest and MotoMedic's post put me on a treasure hunt. I had suspected it had a sub, but wasn't sure. Upon first inspection on the cheese grater, I was miffed as I didn't see the amp, but looking closer, it is actually to the left (when looking aft) of the cheese grater holes. Then, I read where people were wanting to test it to see if they had it or if it actually made a difference. A little more playing around and I found that you can turn off the sub by moving the speaker fader all the way to the rear. Move it one "click" off the rear and you will hear it kick in. I hope this helps and I didn't bore you too much.
  10. I have a 160g iPod with around 14k songs and it works great.
  11. I went to the local truck accessory shop today and had a good discussion with the owner. Apparently, Undercover is slowly buying the competition....Gator, Extang and Bak have all been bought out by Undercover.
  12. I have a question for the owners of the fold up hard covers. When it is folded up, are there rubber bumpers to keep it from scratching the cab before you get the support rods fastened? Thanks!
  13. I'm in love with the brown interior.....It seems a bit softer than the normal leather and it probably draws the most comments from those who see the truck for the first time.
