  1. I guess what I'm asking, or am at least surprised by, is that the painting step would even work. FF seems very oily (I've used it in small areas) and I'm surprised that paint would stick to it.
  2. subcribed (is there a way to do this that doesn't involve posting a message?)
  3. It's a lanolin-based rust inhibitor: http://www.fluid-film.com/ It smells like a barn full of sheep.
  4. Wasn't it NBC that planted a lit model rocket engine under a car (GM?) to demonstrate an explosion risk if that car were rear-ended? I imagine that NBC, of all news organizations, would be cautious with faulty vehicle stories.
  5. Interesting angle. From a cost perspective, it's cheaper than a timing belt replacement. Except Toyota with their DI+PI scheme. I understand anal. I'm really curious to see if the catch cans help. I've read arguments that there's enough oil leaking down from the valve guides that removing the PCV contribution won't solve the problem. (But will it slow it down?)
  6. They might not legally have to respond after the warranty, but if they don't they might have trouble selling their next generation of trucks.
  7. I can't help but think that either: (a) everybody on this thread is wrong and all this oil won't lead to actual deposit issues, or (b) GM's going to have a huge mess on their hands in a few years. If (b), what will their response be?
  8. I wouldn't go for more than a year if my only driving was to church on Sunday. You'll get moisture in there, especially given that you're in MA with winter and all. I suppose you're keeping an eye on it with OA, but without that I just wouldn't go for more than a year.
  9. z28s and Corvettes have catch cans from the factory? I can believe they added baffles to the PCV path, but catch cans? That the customer has to empty?
  10. The veracity of your statement which I bolded is what I'm trying to figure out. I have no argument against it, but I still want to see evidence. There are fewer vehicles without DI available each year. By the time I'm ready to buy, there may be none, or at least none that otherwise interest me. I'd like this problem solved by then. How will I know?
  11. But I have only actually seen issues reported for the German makes. Are there others?
