  1. Sure! If I decide to order anything from eBay I'll post what I ordered and how it went. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. That's good to know that I have a dealership by me that isn't price gouging. The dealership that quoted me was Reliable Chevrolet in Richardson, TX for those of you in the area. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. That's great feedback! I'll probably order them from eBay once I give up looking for the ones I lost. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. So it happened-I lost my set of keys. Luckily I found my spare set so I'm good for the moment. A local dealership quoted me $45 for a key that I could program myself and $120 for a key fob+$40 for them to program the fob. Do these prices sound average? I'm going to call around to other dealerships in my area (currently in N. Dallas, TX) to get a feel tomorrow. I saw some remotes that claim to be OEM on eBay for $50. I'd still have to get the dealership to program but that's $70 saved off what I was quoted for the remote. Anyone have any experience going the 'ebay' route?
  5. GulfTango, Blue Sierra Owner looks to be mentioning information similar to what's contained in that .pdf I posted. Keep us updated, but I think if your friend thinks it's just swapping out that one part he may be in for some disappointment.
  6. On http://www.gmfleet.com/chevrolet/silverado-1500-truck.html it shows '4 upfitter switches' as an available option for a fleet order. I found it corresponds to Order Code RPO 9L7. The only P/N I could find was 23145158. I'm not sure if any of this information is what OP has pictured. Someone will have to contact a dealer that specializes in fleet sales to find out. I also found this .pdf that provides a part number for a connector kit that may possibly be required for an OEM-like installation. 7. I don't think anyone's disputing that. I'm all for warranties just not one where I have to pay for a 7 year but only get an additional 4 years of coverage. I would buy it towards the end of your warranty, before it expires. Just how 'hurricanoday' puts it.
  8. I can agree with you to some extent. If they didn't make money, they wouldn't offer it. However in my experience, I've made claims on every warranty I've purchased for a used vehicle so far which otherwise would have cost me more. It's always worked out in my favor. I don't think I'd purchase an extended warranty on a new vehicle that already has a Bumper-to-Bumper; I just can't wrap my head around that concept.
  9. Congrats Shredzy on the new truck!!!! They probably won't give you a price on what it may be 3 years from now and even if they did, they'd make sure to make it look like the better deal is to take it now. $1500 sounds about right even for extending the warranty an additional few years when you're at the end of your bumper-to-bumper. Maybe call a dealership or two and get a quote for extending a warranty on a 2012 Silverado and see what prices they give. A 2012 Silverado, which would be 3 years old now, may give an idea to what your warranty will cost down the line. My advice would be to weigh it out carefully. That 84 month warranty is really only a 48 month warranty since you'd be walking away with the 36 month warranty if you chose not to get the warranty now. The math you did already shows you knew that. Regardless let us know what happens (or doesn't)
  10. That's what I was trying to explain in my post above yours. You just did it in a lot less words. [emoji4] When you buy a warranty, it starts from the day you buy it, date and mileage. So of course an extended warranty would be cheaper now, you're only buying an additional 2 years even if they're disguising it as a 5 year. Again I firmly believe in warranties, but it doesn't make sense to me to purchase it at the time of sale. I will extend it for 5 years at the end of the bumper to bumper. 11. But from what I understand you lose or have double coverage while the bumper to bumper was in effect. For example, I buy the truck new with the 3 year warranty, if I buy a 5 year at time of purchase it's 5 years from date of purchase not in addition to the 3 years. So you're really only paying for 2 additional years which would make sense why it would be cheaper now then later. If I buy it now I'd be covered for 5 years. If I bought the warranty later I'd be covered for a total of 8 years. Correct me if I'm wrong. Sent from my mobile using Tapatalk
  12. I'm all for warranties; I've had bought many used vehicles and the warranties paid for themselves usually within the first repair. So I bought my 2015 Silverado new so it gets the 3 year bumper-to-bumper, 5 year powertrain and all the other warranties that would come with a new vehicle. With that being said, what would be the advantage of purchasing extended protection at this time? Wouldn't I buy it as my bumper-to-bumper expires? I don't even remember the salesman offering it to me at the point of sale.
  13. So I went to a local Chevrolet dealership to speak with a salesman about it and as anticipated, he couldn't give me any information I didn't already know, just the 'these trucks are pretty tough and should handle more than a few hundred pounds'. So I opened the tailgate on one on the lot. Keeping in mind I'm a 300lb guy: I opened it, stood on it, jumped around a little and sat on it and didn't notice anything that showed the tailgate was going to give. If I get a chance I'll bring a 200lb friend with me next time and see what happens with the both of us on it, with the dealership's permission of course. Side note: I noticed the tailgate cables being a little uneven on both mine and the one on the dealerships lot. They're not off by much; when you put pressure on the side that has a bit more slack it pulls the cable so I don't think it's as big an issue that some other threads are claiming, at least on these two.
  14. Good call tstehle! I had them make custom ones for my SSR but never really got to use them. For $55 it's some piece of mind and he has pictures of what it can do here http://www.dgmtailgatesupport.com/tailgate-supports. I may consider it if I feel I'm pushing mine to it's limit.
