Of course, the 2500 has better braking ability... but have you considered trailer brakes and the trailer brake controller, assuming you want to keep your half ton? It's a lot cheaper than the upgrade to 6.2 and/or 2500. Personally, I wouldn't consider pulling something that heavy without electric brakes and controller. If I'm stating the obvious, forgive the intrusion... I figured the HP discussion was already put to bed.
