Shake or Vibration Issues
cornell1 replied to Silver space ship's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado & Sierra Troubleshooting
Nathan79, Thanks for the tip. I'd maybe be a bit hesitant to install the Diablo chip; it seems to be a matter of opinion whether that voids the warranty, and I don't know enough about the computer "bugs" to take the chance. I will ask the dealer about it though, just to see what they say. I can probably guess.... The explanation of the problem they gave me was that it is variable pressure on the exhaust system that changes when the AFM is engaged. Makes sense, but more importantly they assured me that it will not harm the truck itself. What about comfort? I do think that the local dealership is trying to solve the problem, although lets face it, if their hands are tied, they are tied. I can say James at Chuck Olson in Shoreline, WA is great to work with, and if there is a fix one of these days, I am sure he will make sure I know about it. Whether the engine mode override, the spring clamps at 5", 8", or other distance from the axle, or toolbox - weight in the bed work, I would bet GM is reading these posts. All I know is I had a 2008 Silverado 1500 LT crew, standard box, and it was like driving a Cadillac. Then I drove a 2013 same configuration. Rattled at 70+, painful to drive. Took that back, got this 2015. It is considerably stiffer than the 2008. It did not need "fixing" but they seem to have done it anyway. Maybe we should all go out any buy 2008's again. Who knows? I'll let you guys know what James comes up with, if anything new. If you find that the Diablo chip does work, please let us know. I'm sure it will help some on this thread. -

Nathan79, I'd be happy to suggest this to the dealership. Tune it? Can you be more specific? Thanks. -
Shake or Vibration Issues

Ok, its been a while since I last replied to this thread but recall I have a 2015 crew cab Silverado 1500 LT 4.3L V6, Z71, standard 6.5' bed with leer canopy. It vibrates when the VLOM manifold shuts off 2 cylinders. Its been to the dealership several times for this, and I just heard back from the dealer that there is no fix. Big surprise there. I love the truck but I cant really say I like the vibration. They have a GM field engineer looking into it, but so far there are no further bulletins. They told me that it does not cause a malfunction in the drivetrain, but it is the resonance in the exhaust system that I feel in the steering wheel. I don't have the 70+ mph vibration others post about (13,500 miles now) but that 4 cyl mode vibration under power is not too great a feeling. Because none of the trade options look good, and I just bought this truck, and the fact that I have been through the lemon law debacle before (that is NOT a good option, folks, you get screwed that way). I will explain for those who don't know the facts. The way the lemon law works is that they deem the truck completely valueless at 100,000 miles. They pro-rate your settlement, so that if you spent $50,000 on the truck, and it has 10,000 miles on it, you will only get 80 percent of your money back. Then they will not pay any more for any improvements you have made, i.e. leather, mud flaps, ground effects, step boards, canopy, storage, spray in liner, etc. unless those were part of the purchase price. So if you borrowed money to pay some portion of the $50,000, you get an opportunity to experience a bad day. By the way, several have posted references to the Better Business Bureau. The BBB is not your friend. The BBB merely establishes a communication channel between you and the business, and to some extent mediates the conversation. They are not lawyers, do not take sides, and certainly do not force either party to abide by the agreements. This is a common misconception. Be warned, especially when you consider trading your POS GM truck for another make. and some mention fuel prices... The Saudis wont keep oversupplying the oil market for long. This is done to crush the dollar, think about it people. That leaves very few choices. -
Yeah my 2015 is doing the same thing as described here by all of you. I had the dealership service manager at ride with me, he of course agreed with me that it was happening consistently. They have a TSB on it, he did the work, involved lifting cab, unhooking exhaust, setting cab back down on pads, that is all bull though, because it happens whether or not you can feel it. Its always happening in V4 under light acceleration, then it stops once in V6 mode. Dealership wants to compare it to another truck with same configuration which is not popular here in Seattle area. 5.3L is more common here. I suppose that I don't need the AFM but dangit, that's what I paid for. I may have to hire an attorney- I'm not sure. If I do, I am done with Chevy. P.S. They opened a case on it (some guy in Manila- way to go Chevy. More jobs overseas.

My 2015 Silverado 4.3L V4/V6 shakes hard when in V4 at 1000 to 1400 rpm when under load. It only happens when in V4 mode, and when in V6, not an issue at all. It is very annoying in the City where slow driving and idling a lot. GM has opened a customer care case but it does not seem like it will result in a fix. The dealer has uncoupled the cab, uncoupled the exhaust, tried the TSB on the matter. Brakes, tires, wheels, driveshaft, torque converter, rear end... all check out. I think it is a major design flaw and wonder whether other members here are having the same problem. The truck is a Z71 crew cab, standard (6.5') bed. It has a leer canopy. Once it shakes, the vibration resonates quite a long time. Ideas? Love my Chevy
