FYI I just ran into this today on my 2015 Sierra 1500 with 13,500 miles on it. Took it in for scheduled service, and during the inspection they noticed that the inside brake shoe on both front wheels was down to 1 mm and the rotors were scored. He informed me that the factory got some "bad parts" on some of the 15s and 16s. He did replace pads and rotors on the front, both sides under warranty.
