  1. You don't have enough miles yet. It will start to smoke at startup and start using oil around 75000 miles.
  2. Update: Started smoking again at start up after driving for an hour or so. smoke will fill the garage. Oil consumption is still acceptable though. It was a half a quart low at about 1500 miles so that's not bad. Its -20 degrees air temp and -45 wind chill so I think the cold slows oil burning a little because engine cools off quicker allowing less oil to leak into the combustion chamber through the valve guide seals.
  3. I had similar issues with my 2010 5.3. Burning a quart every 500 miles. Smoking at startup, low oil pressure, etc. In fact one time the oil pressure got so low it did an emergency shutdown on me. That's how bad it was. I was using Mobil 1 also. What I did was I ran a quart of motor Medic in it for about 70 miles. Changed the oil then when it got a quart low I did it again. The third time I ran a pint of Sea Foam in it for about 50 miles then changed the oil. I switched to Castrol 10/30 high mileage and now 10-40. Now I can go over 1200 miles to the quart and it has virtually quit smoking. This worked for me.
  4. No. I like it better without the flares. But then again I like to keep things simple.
  5. Had a former retired employee stop by while her new equinox was in the shop getting the transmission fluid changed due to a recall. She said she knew of three others in town being recalled for the same reason. Must be pretty widespread.
  6. I like it. To me the chevy version is a cross between a Colorado and a suburban. Same or similar front from the existing Suburban and the side of a full side Colorado.
  7. I can vouch for the Hankook's also one of the best tires I've ever had. May not be as sexy looking as the BFG or Goodyear, but a good tire for the money!
  8. They should offer a "lifted" version right off the bat. Offer it as an option since it appears 80% of new buyers slap on a lift kit and big tires even though most probably don't get off the pavement
  9. Based on this statement I would question EVERYTHING else this guy says. I say BS!
  10. I appears you paid for something they didn't do. There should be some trace of the protectant somewhere. I'm not seeing it.
  11. Well the oil was down about a 1/3 of a quart after this trip. Drove to Fargo this past weekend and checked it. Its was more than a quart low. So apparently the 5W40 slows the oil loss up to about 2000 miles then its back to normal loss levels (quart every 500 to 700 miles) Mileage is now about 104K. I think I'll change it at 3000 miles but this time I'll try conventional 15W 40 oil and see what happens. Anybody know if this is not a good idea? Too thick?
  12. 1200 miles. Checked oil this am and it was just a little under the full mark. Oil pressure still strong. Looks like its working. My wife is taking it to MN this weekend to bring my grandson back to his mama. Its about 600 miles round trip. I'll check it when she gets back and let you know what it says.
  13. We'll using 5w40 seems to be helping a lot. I have about 75% less smoke at start up and so far after about 700 miles the oil is still full. Oil pressure is holding about 40 as well. Used to drop to under 30 at highway speeds with 5w30 conventional.
