  1. The dealer is going to get back to me and hopefully I can get this resolved next week and at some point get the bed floor stripped, primed and repainted. I took to a body shop that has been around for decades and talked with their lead painter. He told me after looking at the way the paint is peeling off that the metal was starting to corrode before it was processed...then cleaned, primed and painted. One thing he reminded me of is that the beds are made in separate pieces, clean, primed and painted then assembled. He told me the only place the metal had an issue is my bed floor, the sides and front are shinny and smooth. He then put a sunlight gun on the bed to show me how dull it was...so, that's the story and I'm sticking to it. The cost to have him totally chemically strip the floor, sand, prime and paint is $900, so we'll see. I just want the bed sprayed with bed liner and the vendor will scuff the painted surface although they will not go to bare metal and must have a painted surface that is not peeling to adhere to or they will not warranty it.
  2. Sorry, I'm not following you. My profile shows I drive a 2016 Silverado and didn't see a post where I mentioned a 2015 although I could have made a type-O. I bought this truck with 7 miles on it, directly from my Chevrolet dealer. Yes, when I used the washer to clean the bed the paint started peeling off. If you look close you can see where the paint is either bubbling off or there was something on the surface that has caused the paint to lift, causing a ruff surface. The funny thing is that maybe 3/4 of the bed surface has this issue and the other 1/4 is normal. My best guess is that something contaminated the surface before it was painted. Here is a picture of the Silverado with, GM/Borla exhaust, GM fender flares, GM trailer mirrors with new harness, I also installed a GM backup camera, GM CAI and Team RX oil catch system, other than that it's stock.
  3. The WeatherTech liner didn't wear through the paint. When I washed the bed the paint flaked off in pieces. When you run your hand over the bed it feels like sand with paint sprayed over it. I've painted a few cars and prep is everything and I can honestly say the prep work on the bed before it was painted is extremely poor quality. I did take it to the dealer and they agreed the paint is an issue.
  4. The big deal is that scuffing isn't going to do much and the company who sprays Line-X will not guarantee the product to adhere properly if the paint is peeling off. If you run your hand over the bed surface it feels like Line-X has already been sprayed. I went to the dealer today and they took pictures, got a paint sample and I should get an appointment with the body shop next week to start the claim.
  5. My 2015 Silverado Custom 4x4 sits outside all of the time and I've had a WeatherTech bed liner in it since new. I took the liner out and was going to have a spray-in bed line applied although when I was power washing the bed the paint started peeling off. Upon closer inspection a greater portion of the bed has very small bubbles in the paint and it almost feels like little bumps. I bought this truck new and have done nothing to the bed and only hauled barkdust. Just looking at the paint I suspect something was on the bed when it was painted...I've got an appointment with the service manager tomorrow to try and resolve this issue. Has anyone else had this problem???
  6. This is a picture of the inside of the OE silencer which is very restrictive.
  7. Here is a picture of the GM CAI and seamless throttle body tube with no deviations with the exception of the RX System.
  8. This is a picture of the stock 5.3l airbox. The opening is very small considering the fender opening is almost twice as big. Where the foam gasket is how big the opening is and the GMP CAI is exactly the size of the foam gasket. You can certainly open this up although I doubt you will gain much as the rest of the system is very restictive including the silencer that goes to the throttle body. Maybe in conjuction with the Airaid tube should give you some performance gain...maybe.
  9. I bought my Silverado Custom new and one of the first things I did was to take off the awful OE CAI. I got a good deal from the dealer and installed it. It woke up the 5.3. GM doesn't give any HP figures although it does say that it increases the air volume for 20%. I have seen youtube video of this intake installed and it does give a solid 8/10HP at the wheels...and this is with no tune, just box stock. I have put CAI's on many new cars and some work and some don't. I just can't imagine just a tube doing anything for the Silverado because when you take out the stock CAI the inlet is extremely small compared to GM CAI. I just put on a RX oil catch can on the Silverado and the idle...which since brand new has not been as smooth as I thought it should be...is totally silky smooth, it's hard to believe. An added bonus is that from a stop light and my foot on the floor I can hear the rear tires chirp when I hit second gear. We'll see what kind of nasty stuff is trapped in the can in a couple thousand miles.
  10. I'm finally getting around to installing OE GM tow mirrors and door harnesses in my 16 Z60 Silverado. My question is should I disconnect the negative terminal while doing this?
  11. The GM part # is 84016022. I purchased this just after buying the Silverado in 16. I'ts not cheap by any means at $432.15 although it's the only CAI that will not have the Service Manager questioning you if you have a motor or ECM issue. It also doesn't need any special programming although I'm sure it could benefit from a tune. There is a GM sticker that comes with the kit that is legal in all 50 states plus has a C.A.R.B. #. I can say that it gives me around 2mpg better in the city and about the same on the road. The other thing that surprised me was under full throttle from a stop when it hits second gear it does chirp the tires...which it would do before I installed it. I bought mine from Suburban Chevrolet, "www.trunkmonkeyparts.com".
  12. GM has always played numbers cautiously and one of the first things I did with my 2016 5.3l Silverado was to install their GM labeled CAI. Right in the instructions it says nothing about about HP/TQ although it does say it will produce 20% more flow...Just saying the little 5.3L can easily be modified to produce 375HP and over 380lbft and still keep the warranty intact...IMHO
  13. Thanks for the encouraging words. If I made reference to oil pressure being the pumps job I apologize, because as you mentioned it doesn't. The truck uses 0/20w of which up until I bought this truck I had never heard of it. My 2014 Mustang Track Package uses 5/50w and I've used 20/40 and 20/50 racing oil forever. I guess if the dealer says it's fine I have him put it on the service order although I've heard/read alot of people having problems with the oil sending unit...which is behind the intake manifold and is probably a 3 hour job to get at it. What ever happened to analog gauges???
  14. I totally understand what you are saying and back in my drag race days we used to say 10psi for every 1000rpm. The issue is that in in 6500 miles the truck has never done this, it's always been around 40 or a little more cool and once it warms up when you come to a light it's 25 to 30 at idle in gear. One the road at 65/70 it's just a little over 40...in the past when I put the stomped on the throttle and kicked down a gear or two the motor would hit 5000rpm or so and the gauge showed maybe 50psi but never has it gone beyond that. I have made an appointment to take it to the dealer so we'll see what they say.
