  1. Okay, so let me throw this one at y'all. My 2016 Chevy 2500HD Dmax had the steering wondering issue shortly after I purchased the truck back in late 2016/early 2017. I took it back to the dealer and they performed the TSB for the pit-man arm slack adjustment. To be quite honest, it really didn't seem to make much difference. However, I know the wondering issue in the steering can sometimes be highly subjective even to myself. I mean, I can hold my lane on the highway with the truck no problem. But then again, I am used to driving a 36ft Diesel pusher motor home. So what might seem fine to me might seem excessive to others. I have learned that when I put the truck into tow-haul mode, that would automatically stiffen the steering which sometimes I did whether or not I was pulling a trailer or the boat just to feel the difference in the steering wheel. Now fast forward to today. While driving the truck today, I was backing out of a parking spot, the steering wheel was as easy to turn as grandma's prius. (which BTY is, in fact, what GM wanted to accomplish with the digital assisted steering) Then all of a sudden it felt like the steering went back to what I call the "stiffer" mode all by itself. There are no DTC's, after several engine restarts and ignition cycles and turning off and on tow/haul mode, still the same thing, stiff steering. Now, it is kind of ironic because I actually LIKE the stiffer feel to the steering wheel. While driving in a straight line it also just makes the truck seem like it wants to track better. However, when in the turns, you know it takes a little more effort to do so. Us big armed guys have been spoiled by it! But as with everything now it leaves me worrying about my Chevy again. I hate going to the dealer. But I know this might be a necessary eval again! Has anyone else experienced this same issue yet???
  2. Update on mine: I still like these LED's. I did have to actually adjust the beams up. Once I did that, they throw out pretty good light. I have not had any high beams flashed at me. I've also looked at the lights from a distance myself and they are bright, but the projectors, I think, make all the difference.
  3. Does that really need to be stated? Do you honestly think those who purchase a programmer expect GM to fix their blown head gaskets and blown turbos and screwed up Catalysts DEF systems when they soup one up? Really? Come on.
  4. Got mine back from dealer. TSB procedure was performed. I have to say, the steering feels tighter from center. Only time will tell how well this fix lasts.
  5. These are not "drive by wire steering". There is a mechanical link from the steering wheel all the way down to the wheels. The Digital Assist power steering only assists with additional "digitally controlled" valves in the steering box through inputs from other computers on board that monitor things like speed, steering wheel positon, force, tow/haul mode, etc. I am not a big fan of it either, but the market dictates what GM does. That means copying other manufacturers and to make the truck drive as easy as a sedan. GM will no doubt eventually catch up to the new Ford adaptive steering too. That's just crazy! At any rate, My 2016 2500HD Duramax has sloppy steering too. So as I sit here and type this, my truck is now in the shop to have this fixed. I drove another 2500HD and the steering on that truck was noticeably much better.
  6. Good question. I have no Idea. One day, when I get a programmer, I'd hope it has that functionality. I have not had the chance to research it. Maybe someone will chime in. It kinda bums me out the 2017 has a 90% redesigned Duramax with 445HP and 910Ff lbs of torque. But that shouldn't be anything a programmer couldn't fix for me on my 2016.
  7. I've put about 1500 miles on the truck so far. After the first transmission reset to relearn, I am the only one who has drove my truck. I have performed a mix of easy accelerations, and really mostly easy accelerations and some very hard accelerations. I have only done a WOT maybe twice, yes twice. The Allison, for the most part shifts like butter now. Under hard acceleration, the shifts become very firm, which is to be expected with the Allison 1000. Under the few WOT accelerations I have performed, the transmission still shifted from 1 to 2 very hard, but now like the first time before purchase and re-learn. I have done quite a bit of research on the Allison transmissions. The way the clutches clamp down and hold the carrier gears and the how the planetary gears transfer power to the output shaft from the input shaft just amazes me. The Allison will constantly monitor shifts to make them better each time. Good stuff.
  8. Cool, oh I forgot to mention, those fans are very noticeable. I can here them from inside the cab over the Duramax at idle. Either that says the duramax is a quiet diesel or these are very loud fans. LOL
  9. Does anyone know how to permanently disable the DRL's? I am going to have to remember to turn them it off every time I get in and start the truck. If not these LED's will run all the time when driving in the day.
  10. I got the OPT7 LED's in yesterday and installed them last night. The installation went pretty smooth. I had to remove the air box from the right side. Other than that, it was a breeze. I was able to shove all the wires, capacitor, polarity switcher and controller in behind the dust cap into the back of the headlamp assembly cavity. It has to get pretty hot in there. I have my doubts as to how long these will last with the heat. Only time will tell. But right now they look great. They are not as bright as I'd expected, but they are about the same brightness as the factory LED's I had on my previous High country 1500. I'm going to let these cook for a while and if they last I am going to get another set for the fogs.
  11. The combination of a transmission reprogram, relearning, disabling ABS (when I feel like WOT starts) solved the issue. I've talked to a few other Duramax owners and they all said that the Allison will shift very hard first to second under WOT. I've had no other issues since day 1.
  12. Thanks for the info, Dap56. I have not pulled the trigger yet on anything. I'm still trying to wear the new off the truck Luckily I don't drive too much at night. But we got a long trip planned in Oct. that will require night time driving. So, I'm definitely doing something before then.
  13. So, here's my plight. I bought a 2016 Chevy 1500 high country back in April. I loved, loved, loved the stock LED headlights. Just here in August I traded that truck in on a 2016 2500 HD Duramax. Yeah, call me crazy, but I actually got a very good deal as GM was offering excellent incentives to get rid of the 2016s and the dealer worked very hard to get me into the 2500 HD Duramax. I only ended up paying an additional 6 grand when it was all said and done. That was basically the cost to upgrade to a 3/4 ton and diesel. However, I soooooo miss the LED headlights. I've been reading all the posts and threads about the OPT7 LED's. I've already looked at the stock headlights on the 2500HD. So, basically it's halogens in the projector lenses and its got the dust cover and ll just like on the 1500's. The driver's side will be a piece of cake. However, the passenger side will require the removal of the entire air box just to get into behind the headlamp. But I am up for the challenge and am no stranger to mods and upgrades. I just want to make sure these LED's are what I should go with.
  14. Over 200 views and no comments. WOW! My suspensions were correct. No comments to this confirmed to me that there was a problem with this truck. Dealer performed software updates and TSB updates on Allison transmission and Duramax. Truck shifts firm but not harsh anymore. This has to be the first time I think in the past 15 years I solely relied on the the manufacturer and the dealer as my 1 source of information for a problem I knew myself they needed to fix. Thanks GM!
  15. Okay, folks please stick with me, this might be a long post, but I want to provide all the information I can so I can get some advice. Last night I signed the paper work on purchasing a brand new Chevy Silverado 2500HD Duramax. To give you a little bit of back ground information, the day started with taking my 2016 1500 5.3 8 speed in for transmission issues. While I was in the dealer I entertained the idea of trading the 1500 in on a 2500HD Duramax. Well, one thing led to another and I decided to trade the 1500 in on a 2500 HD. I am no stranger to diesel pickup trucks or pulling heavy loads with them. I've owned an F250 Super Duty 7.3, F250 6.0 and an F350 6.0. To make a long story short I pulled travel trailers and fifth wheels until we decided to go to a Motor home. BTY, my motor home has a Cummins with an Allison transmission that is flawless. So, back to the brand new 2500HD I just traded up to. While on the test drive, (and I drove this truck for half a day and put approximately 50 miles on it.) I drove it around pretty easy most of the time. This brand new 2500HD did have 200 miles on it. Well, on the way back to the dealer, I decided to go WOT from a dead stop and see what it could do. When I did this the truck slammed into second gear very very very harshly. I mean to tell you the entire truck shook violently and it felt like the rear-end came out of it. In fact, I thought the engine and transmission was going to come out from under it. That is how bad it was. So, when I got back to the dealer I had one of the techs go on a ride with me. We were able to reproduce the condition again. The problem mostly exhibits itself from a dead stop and WOT. We got back to the dealer and they assured me this issue could be resolved with a re-program and it would be good to go. Fast forward a day and the truck has been in the shop all day and mind you I have not took possession of it yet. I talked to the service manager this afternoon and he claims this is normal. Okay, so here I am, I don't know what to think. I know this is not right. I searched all over the net to see if this was a common problem and I really can't come up with anything. I read about harsh downshifts but not this violent 1 - 2 upshift under WOT. So, my question is this, is that normal behavior for these brand new Allisons or should I figure out a way to get out of this to be lemon?
