  1. I would pass on option 4. My 14 and 16 Ram Limited was bought back by FCA. You would be trading 1 problem for another. Ram's drive line is defective. Even in the 19's the tranny clunks. MY 14 was so bad I had 2 full file folders full of repairs. My 16 had the tranny replaced, driveshaft and t-case. Both with under 15K miles. Absolute Junk. In my experience there are only 3 options if you need a truck, Toyota, Ford or none. I picked Ford for the drive line. It's still expensive junk, but it's the best junk available unless you want old tech Tundra. If you choose option 1 and live in state with lemon laws similar to Texas, you don't need a lawyer. The state was very helpful in getting both my trucks bought back. I didn't even have to go to court because they knew I would win and they settled. Also, in Texas all you need is 3 repairs (get them in writing even if they say no) for the same problem before you file a claim. And a little birder who works for the company the actually buys back vehicles from manufacturers and picks them up from the dealer told me when you file a claim, mention SAFETY as reason for filing your claim. Hope you get your truck fixed.
  2. Yes, plenty of GM Trucks. My 2000 was rock solid until 100K with a 4 in Rancho lift. This truck served me well, but it did have the cladder noise on startup. I'm assuming it was carbon build up on the heads.
  3. At 2:46 is the infamous HEMI TICK! My RAM Limited made that noise on every dry startup. It always sounded like it was going to blow up. Dealer said it was designed to sound like that. I lemoned that POS and FCA bought it back for multiple problems. Still lost my a$$. Never Chrysler again. Don't let the interior fool ya, it's lipstick on a PIG!
  4. Might want to re-think going to ram, i lemoned my 14 ram limited and my 16 ram limited for clunky shiting transmission among tons of other problems, worst 2 vehicles ever owned besides my wifes grand Cherokee which left her stranded 3 times. Bought a ford with 10 speed, its been perfect with smooth shifting, it skips gears and generally uses 7 gears.
  5. Guess your a gm fanboy. I'm not brand loyal, I've owned them all and Ford was my pick for the best drive train. I would rather have a truck with a smooth shifting transmission than be stuck with clunky shaking gm truck. My recall was fixed in 30 minutes. Whens yours gonna get fixed? Uh, never. And my truck has a metal oil pan so I'm good to go.
  6. Yeah I agree the exhaust should be tuned like a Nissan GTR. I was the same way about the exhaust until I drove one. The turbo spool sounds nice in the cab and the truck has so much power you forget about the sound. It' just fun to drive and it's properly geared with 4.10's. This truck pulls hard through the power band with little effort and it has less weight than a v8 so it also makes the truck more nimble. A stock 2003-2007 Vipers had a 8.3 liter 505.6 cu. in. motor that produced 500 hp and 525 ft lb of torque. This truck puts out 510 ft lbs of torque. Hennessy has some old dynos he compared to older 8 liter vipers and the Raptor motor produces more power on the dyno and their lighter weight. Is the truck worth 70K, no, but they hold their resale value so well I opted to spend more money up front than buy a less expensive truck, mod it and get less on my resale. Also, as a long time Chevy owner, I sold my truck last year and I waited an entire year to see what Chevy was going to release this year. Previously I test drove a 14, 15, 16, and 18 Chevy and they all had the Chevy shake and a clunky transmission. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited to see what they had coming out this year and to see if they corrected any of their problems. In the end, I just wasn't impressed with their current offering, so I jumped ship and bought a Raptor. Hopefully Chevy starts offering more gearing options, engine options and re-designs the interior. Until then I'll be driving my Ford.
  7. They changed the design to metal oil pan and drain plug mid year. I just bought a 2018 Raptor and mine has the metal pan and plug. Here's my bland Raptor.
  8. Well I just drove a 2018 SLT with 6.2 3.23 rear end. Sticker 58K. This one had the Chevy Shake throughout the steering wheel and the cab and transmission was very clunking downshifting. I'm not holding out any hope on the 19's since they can't get their trucks right after 4 years. What a shame. Such a nice truck. Oh well, looks like a 3/4 ton Chevy or Ford is in my future.
  9. How was your transmission when you 1st bought the truck. Did it shift smooth? The salesman who helped me said his clunked and they where not able to fix it. He has a 6.2 SLT as well.
  10. I've been throwing around the idea of a 3/4 ton for that reason. I love the ride of the 3/4 with torsion bars and the 6 speed. The only reason I might not get a 3/4 ton is I like to park my truck in the garage.
  11. Thanks, for the response and input. RAM kept telling me my transmission in both trucks had to learn my driving habits with 20K miles on each. Even the tech rode with me with the laptop installed and when I made immediate stops, the truck was in 3rd gear, then would hard shift to 1st gear after stopping, thus causing a hard clunk when downshifting. So clearly it was a programming issue. I've lost way to much money on my last 2 trucks even though they where bought back by FCA. I own a Lexus LS460 with 8-speed, it shifts like butter, my wife has a RC 350 with 8-speed and it's flawless, my daughter has a Q60 with 7 speed and it also shifts flawless. I need a transmission that already that's graduated with honors, not some transmission still in 1st grade if I'm paying 50K for a new truck.
  12. I'm in the market for a new truck and the deals on 18 Chevy's and GMC's are looking sweet. I test drove a 2018 Denali with 6.2 8-speed transmission with 17 miles on the odometer. I only went for a short drive, but while driving around 30-40 mph on the feeder, I let off the throttle and a loud clank came from the drive line. The truck did this twice while on my test drive. My wife said, wtf was that? The salesman said, How you like it? I said, it has a drive line noise or loud clank when letting off the throttle. He said my 17 SLT 4x4 does the same thing, there is no fix. Hey, at least he was honest. I was a long time Chevy guy. My lifted 2000 Silverado was trouble free for 13 years and 130K miles. I sold it and test drove a 14 Chevy. It had a rough idle, steering wheel vibration and the same clunky drive line. Long story short, I bought a 14 RAM Limited 4x4 and a 16 RAM Limited 4x4. Both vehicles where bought back by FCA for a defective drive train i.e. clunky downshifting 8HPZF transmission and numerous other problems. Now I'm in the market for a new truck and the prospects are not looking good. It's a shame because I really like the Denali and SLT's aside from not having rear A/C vents and the poor throttle response, the truck was super nice and dead silent on the interior. Over the past several years I've test driven 14, 15, 16 and 18 Chevy 1500 trucks. The 14, 15 and 16 I test drove all had the rough idle, steering wheel vibration and the clunky drive train. The 18 Denali I drove only had the clunky drive train. I was jumping ship to Ford, but it looks like owners are posting all kinds of problems with their 10 speeds as well. I'm not holding out for any hopes on the 19 Chevy's since they can't even get their 8-speed right. The prospects are not looking good for a new truck unless I want an old a$$ Tundra or an F-250 gas with the 6 speed. Can anyone make a functioning truck like the old days. I've owned numerous cars and truck and never had a problem with any transmission let alone even had a discussion about them. They just worked.
  13. If you you got a vib when stopping, it's probably a warped rotor
