  1. Towing won’t be an issue once you balance your load out. You got plenty of power. Hilly terrain might be reason for a little higher octane gas maybe ? Your knock sensors should assist you. Nothing worse than a gas knock when thromping the gas pedal trying to ascend a elevated area. Where I would be concerned more would be in stopping. Personally I’d replace my rotors with vented ones. Summit Racing has some great add ons for your truck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I was thinking u joint but might be tranny ? Does it go away at high speed ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. My guy says the switch isn’t getting any power. Gotta bring a volt gauge. Thanks for the help. To be continued. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Checking to see if I can get some help/advice. I have a 1500 Avalanche 2002 model Z71 4WD. Last week I noticed the light that indicates it is in 2WD was not illuminated. Just thought maybe a bulb ? This week, before driving thru some deep water and mud, I dropped her into 4WD Lo. It seemed to like go half way but didn’t lock in 4WD. The Service 4WD dashboard light illuminated. She felt like she was in low gear, but the front tires were not engaged. She became locked in low gear, but 2WD. I shifted down to 1ST gear and then to 2ND and it did shift so she wasn’t in crawl mode. I couldn’t not get her back into normal 2WD where she shifts normally. I stopped and shut her off and did some work on one of my hunting stands. When I started her up, I held in the 2WD button in. She shifted into 2WD. I drove back to camp, where once there, I attempted 4WD again. Same luck, 2WD low gear only no 4WD engagement. Again couldn’t shift her out and back to 2WD, even trying to clear her out by going in reverse. I parked her. Bringing a mechanic to camp tomorrow morning. Can anyone give me some kinda area where to look ? Will a code tool help find my area ? What sensor can be the culprit ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Funny I’m a used car wholesaler for years. I’ve always owned Chevy. In the hot summer months I always, since maybe 1980 ran 20/50. First it was Castrol GTX, then since maybe 1990, Valvoline Racing oil. Winter I go same, but 10/40. Synthetic made my 1998 Tahoe rear main seep. My hunting truck is a 2005 Tahoe Z71. Bought it with 26k back in 2011 when I sold the 98 Tahoe. All she’s seen over and over, few exceptions, Valvoline Racing oil conventional 20/50,,,10/40 in winter. She’s @ 150k now. Uses no oil, leaks no oil. She seems to like it and I swear by it regardless what GM calls for. Why ? GM would love to sell you the next truck. Protect your moving parts with good lubrications. Let the Mobil 1 boys buy the next $55,000 Tahoe, not me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Could it be possible your air/gas mixture isn’t optimal ? Try hitting the air mass flow sensor while running and see if it stutters ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. GMC Denali are a little more dressier than a Suburban therefore the bells and whistles cost a bit more for repair. As for miles ? That’s not a ton. But the old adage for me is oil change. How often and what kinda oil and filter. A city run truck versus a highway run truck with same miles ? You take the highway because of the idling in the city. Hence why I always said a Hobbs meter should accompany a dashboard cluster. I wouldn’t be afraid to buy it. I got 140K on my Tahoe, she uses no oil. I use Valvoline Racing oil. Owned it sine it had 26k on it. I change the tranny filter once a year too to keep that oil fresh. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. In that year, wasn’t there a recall on a manifold intake gasket ? Or thermostat area ? I recall my 1998 Tahoe had a recall. I was losing antifreeze , not internally but still leaking. Wonder if your somehow leaking from cylinder to cylinder ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. And I was thinking it wouldn’t bolt up to the tranny ? Your electronics you gotta expect need to be changed or swapped in with the engine. I was not aware they’d interchange. Thanks for the knowledge!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I’d say it was towed wrong. Call the town company to find out what they did. Something is in neutral of they burned the tranny by towing it while in 4x4 maybe ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I find it interesting there is a upgrade to to beef up this 1/2 ton tranny. If I had known this I would have done that to my Z71 Tahoe. I don’t tow anymore but I spin tires in mud and high water. Thanks for the enlightenment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. They don’t put this tranny in a 3/4 ton HD p/u do they ? I remember the older 3/4 ton tranny when Chevy used 350 Turbo and 700r. Might have been a C2 ? All I know is it was without THE tranny for towing a bass boat or snowmobile. Awesome stuff. Think they aren’t made ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. You got a whole lot more miles outta your Z than I did with mine. I got 75K or so before my torque converter started bleeding. I wanted to rebuild the same case, but instead bought a rebuilt from a guy I know who runs a speed shop for Chevys. I got about 60k on it now. I’m not sure what to recommend you. I really wanted my own case rebuilt because I was OK with it. I learned they are expensive trannys and not very big. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Was this fixed ? I got the same truck and same issue. Mine ended up being a wire to the tranny. What I noticed was the shift indicator was not illuminating and when not illuminating wouldn’t go into low. Swamp was my culprit. Respliced the wire and it’s fixed for now.
