Gun safe
Brian Long replied to Rock1500's topic in Major League Sports, Outdoor Recreation, Firearms, Hunting, OHRV
No stress involved there! Funny how we remember things by not thinking about them. I am guessing you considered testing the integrity of the safe at some point - I was kind of hoping for some story about how you opened it like a sardine can :-P We ran across a small Sentry safe at work that nobody knew the combination for. We paid something like $25 for them to send us the combination only to find a few empty plastic cases inside. I keep the backup keys for my digital pad in locations outside my house. Worst case it is only a couple hour round trip drive. -

Okay, I'll bite. How much fun was it when you temporarily forgot the combo? -

I window shopped for years. Even have a Liberty Safe scratch and dent dealer not far from me (Liberty is only 2 hours away) that has stuff you would struggle to call out any imperfection on for big money off retail - still way more than I want to spend. While Liberty does better than most on prying, they are only slightly better on cutting the sides open with a cutt-off wheel on a grinder. The only safes I have seen that do a good job at protecting against this start in the $3k range, and are as heavy as a truck. Ran across this one day: http://www.samsclub.com/sams/36-gun-safe/prod20595288.ip?xid=plp:product:1:1 First, it is a 75 minute safe, not a 30 minute as the initial description says (full description and box say 75), second, value wise it is better than anything I have found. Heavy enough that it will not walk away (mine is secured, but still), and not so heavy that is must be in the basement or have the floor reinforced Great burn rating (time/temp) Backup key (gets me past the fear of the digital lock) Already has electrical outlet installed Door organizer Waterproof to 2' (floats if you don't bolt it down) It looks better in person. The only gripe that I would put out there, even considering the price, is they mounted 2 of the shelf rails about 1/8" higher than the others so you can see the tilt in the shelves if you stare at it. I added a $30 PEET Safe Dryer, and $25 of LED lights and called it good. Mine is now full, but for the money I can justify buying another and still be ahead of where I would be if I bought a lower end Liberty of the same size. -
Steering wheel clicking?
Brian Long replied to bladz1454's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado & Sierra Troubleshooting
So I read all the posts in this thread. Not one mention of a common problem with at least the GMT900, which is the air bag spring. Makes me wonder if some of these column replacements used the old upper components. For anyone that has had their steering column worked on, I offer this one piece of advice - Check the column boot on the firewall-- inside the engine compartment --and make sure it is seated properly. I had an extremely scary incident a few years back when I was making a u-turn in a parking lot. The wheel progressively, but rapidly, became hard to and finally impossible to turn. I could not duplicate it again, but took it straight to the dealer. The diagnosed the thing up and down, flushed lines, replaced crap, then the tech noticed the boot was crooked. Guess someone had done some work on it and not put the boot all the way back on. It eventually spun with the column turning and caught on a stud on the firewall. Could have gotten me in some serious trouble if it had happened on the road rather than a parking lot. Anyway, for column clicking, ask your SA to research the air bag spring issue. -
Pre Pretty big leap going political. Political Correctness is when you stop doing something for fear that it may result in someone being offended by way of potential association. Being compassionate is when you refrain from rubbing shit in someones face. I do not think the OP intended the post to be bad, nor do I think we view it as something that should be offensive to everyone that has lost someone to a vehicle accident. Given the information, the vehicle as-is in the photo shows the temporary casket for 2 members of a family. They likely do not want to be confronted with the image on the news or any website, so it is compassionate to not help propagate it. Heck, I do not think some of the community would be any where near as concerned/bothered if the photo was of the truck opened up after the bodies were recovered. To be politically correct, we would demand that no accident photos be published. The point is we can be compassionate without "surrendering our flag."

Today I drove my truck to work, which just does not happen that often (driving it, not going to work). Washed it. Renamed it to "Christine." It was the "Road Bullet" for years, but since it no longer tows heavy and is lifted, the name just does not work. Christine came to me when I walked behind it today to find that once again, the left license plate light assembly was hanging from the bumper. I have replaced it, verified the bumper is not worn, etc., but yet it still drops out every now and again while just sitting in the driveway. So, now Christine can do "whatever" while parked, and I will just accept it. I also wiped the front lower bumper down with Wipe New Trim Restorer. I did the other plastic on the exterior a few weeks ago and it is still looking awesome, so I decided to take a few minutes and do the front bumper. The bumper was not faded like the mirrors and rear step were (sits in the sun all day), but it did have some white spots from waxing. Now she looks good again.

Which MaxiSys kit did you buy?

Saturday: Made custom mounting rails for installing 2 Alpine PWE-S8 subs, 1 under each front seat. Sunday: Installed a dual-amp wiring kit, 2 subs, and 2 tweeters. Result: Awesome without even seeing the subs unless you go looking, zero loss of cargo space, and off-road worthy without worrying about bouncing a sub box around. edit: can't eat speakers so changed them from tweaters to tweeters.

Opinions on carpet vs vinyl floor
Brian Long replied to tw627x's topic in 2014 - 2019 Silverado & Sierra
Love/hate with mats on rubber vs. Love/hate with heavy rubber mats on carpet since you get stuff around the mats hitting the carpet at some point. Rubber with lock-on mats is the way to go -- I am pretty sure one mfg. just started offering this. -
How many miles do you have on your 6.0 liter motor?
Brian Long replied to john857's topic in 2000-2014 Silverado & Sierra HD
'08 with 45k. Bought it used with 22,500 in Jan 2013. New factory transmission installed at 22,700 (dealer service destroyed original). Not a daily driver.
