  1. Curious, even though I installed a catch can is their any other way this engine could use/burn oil besides leaking externally or go by the pistons or valve seals which the truck doesn't smoke at all, the catch can should catch everything correct? As far as if it is a pcv issue.
  2. It might be but I installed a catch before the trip, not sure if said that or not
  3. Christ almost a week up and this is the reply I get, thank you sir I will take your advice and try to implement it into coming up with a fix for my issue.
  4. I recently purchased a 2012 Silverad 4x4 crew cab with a 5.3 I knew of the AFM issues in the 2007 to 2011 Silverados and Sierras, but thought the issues were basically resolved in the 2012 and 2013 models with that being said I basically narrowed my search down to the later model years I found the one I bought with low mileage at 85000 miles it was very clean no rust ran good felt good about the purchase I brought it home and gave it a once-over and I took out the number 7 plug and the threads had oil on them the plugs also look like they were changed recently which I didn't think anything of it until later. All this is right before we are going to take a trip to the Smoky Mountains Andover to Memphis to visit family so I changed oil installed a Home Depot catch can change the plugs added Marvel Mystery Oil to the oil thinking a mild detergent would clean up whatever is in the engine and I could do a oil consumption test. Throughout the trip I noticed the oil levels were getting lower a rough average of about half a quart to a quart was used during the trip and the catch can only caught an ounce or so since then I've ordered a Moroso catch can as well as a inspection camera I inspected the number 7 cylinder that has the most oil in the plug and the Piston looks to be very caked with carbon buildup I will post a pic of the piston. I knew I wanted to do a DOD delete and possibly a VVT delete but I wasn't thinking about the Pistons or the Rings after doing a lot of research it seems like the piston and rings become oil caked and allow oil to blow by with all this being said is it necessary to delete the VVT or should I leave it alone what I'm looking for is Ultimate reliability and gas mileage also with the condition that the Pistons are in is it reasonable to assume that the rings are in the same shape and if so should I replace the piston rings or replace the piston and the Rings? Also when doing the delete are you supposed to use another type of oil pump due to higher pressures. I have done a lot of Google searching if someone can point me to a thread or site that breaks down every part that I will need that would be helpful I know of Texas Speed and their kits.
