  1. The trip odometer that I have never reset in my 2016 2500HD 6.0 says 11.3 lifetime mpg for about 26,000 miles. Some towing, lots of short trips.
  2. Out here on the west coast the prices for late model 2500hd gassers is crazy. The local Chevy dealer has called/emailed at least three times in the last few months trying to get me to trade mine in or offering to buy it outright. It serves me perfectly so I am keeping it. I wish you the best in your search, though. If your teenage daughter is a horse girl you have a huge part of life's struggles well under control! One of the best investments I ever made was a horse for my girl.
  3. I do that sometimes on the beach way up in the dry sand. Well, I don't get out but I use the 1 position in low range. My trotting days are long past.
  4. If I pull the lever down to the 1 position at any speed on my 2016 gasser it will shift to the lowest allowable gear for the speed/rpm and hold that gear. (I say any speed, but I have only tried it at speeds less than 45 mph. It downshifts quickly.) The manual shift buttons do not work with it the 1 position. If I start out from a stop with it at 1 it stays in first gear all the way to rev limiter and does not shift. I can't seem to find anything about the 1 position in my owners manual either. There is a paragraph or so for each of the other shift lever positions but not the 1. The only time I have used the 1 spot is on the beach when in 4WD Low and I want to idle along through the loose sand. I seem to recall there was another thread about this topic a couple years back and it got pretty much the same replies as this one.
  5. The winters are pretty mild out here on the north Oregon coast, and I don't leave the hitch in the receiver all the time anyway, so I can't help you much with the winter durability question. But with the limited use it has seen so far, the Weigh Safe is holding up just fine. Looking at the Weigh Safe web site I see the slider rack with the scale in it goes for $86. The gauge itself doesn't seem to be available by itself.
  6. No noise in my 2016 Silverado. Have you perchance had the battery unhooked for more than a couple minutes at some point? I would be surprised if the dealer did not try this, but it could be that the window needs to be reindexed or reset. I don't know exactly how it is done in this particular vehicle, but it is likely as simple as turning the key on without starting, holding the window down button for a few seconds after the window lowers, and then holding the window up button for a few seconds after the window goes all the way up. It does not take much of a crack in the seal to get a whistle from the window. Good luck! I hope you get it figured out. It can be pretty aggravating to hear the constant hissing.
  7. The scale in the hitch might be a little gimmicky, I don't know, but it is at least something. It is very sensitive to the way the entire rig is sitting, and of course level ground gives the best reading. They told me I could cut the draw bar but it would void the warranty. They also said I could buy just the draw bar from their web site. It's $78 for a 6" drop so I think I'll just buy a spare. That way if I ever go through another mid life crisis and decide to jack the truck up I will be all set.
  8. I am using a Weigh Safe hitch with a 10" drop. I don't know what I was thinking! For one of the trailers I had in the past I used a 10" drop fixed stinger on a Dodge 3500, so remembering that, I got the longer hitch when I ordered this one. It is too low on my stock height Chevy 2500HD and has smacked the ground a couple times on steep boat ramps. I should have bought the 8" drop. My boat trailer rides up high on the hitch and the dump trailer rides down one hole below 6". I am thinking about sawing 2' off the bottom of the drop. The Weigh Safe site has a text message help feature so I checked with them to make sure there isn't some reason I shouldn't cut it. I can't think of a reason not to do it but it is free to check with them. I will let you know what they say. I really like the Weigh Safe setup and the little scale built in to the ball slider. The boat trailer is long and rides best with 800-900 lbs. on the hitch. The scale looks to be accurate within 50 pounds or so and it takes the guesswork out of moving weight in the boat to get the right spot for longer hauls. Thanks for starting this thread! It made me remember I need to fix my hitch.
  9. I thought the same thing the first time I used 4H on the road in my 2016 Chev 2500HD 6.0. I asked the dealer shop about it and they said it was normal. It took a while to accept it as normal but I am used to it now and nothing has busted so I guess it is OK. My Fords, Jeeps and Dodges sure didn't whine like that. I also have a low speed rotational noise they either say is normal or that they can't hear it. The only time I notice it is in a quiet parking lot or, oddly enough, driving around the local dealer's lot to get to the service department. They can't hear it all the time though. I quit worrying about that one, too. Other than that, I must say I am very pleased with this truck. I still comment to the GF every so often about how good of a truck we got. It is comfortable, plenty powerful, tows the boat really well, and looks pretty good. It also has a good stereo so I don't have to listen to the drivetrain noises!
  10. I'm not too crazy about the front but the rest of it looks pretty good. Other than the fuel MPG I am very content with my 2016 2500HD gasser so I likely wouldn't be trading up regardless, but I would not be ashamed driving the new one around. And on the plus side - the roof hasn't changed so we can still look forward to the leaky antenna!
  11. I have sensed a little wandering at speeds over 60 and am not sure yet if it is real or imagined. My girlfriend has driven the truck and does not think there is a problem. Also, my other car is a C7 Corvette which has very responsive steering so maybe I am exaggerating the difference between the two and if I had not been following this thread I wouldn't even think I had a problem with the truck. I just had the second free service done at about 10k miles. I mentioned to the service desk that I thought the truck was wandering and asked them to look for anything obvious. You can see by the picture how seriously they took it. It does not do a lot to build the faith in my dealer!
  12. Thank you for the info, I did not know that. The little N is not too easy to see before the light comes on.
  13. Storming and blowing here too, and the inside is still dry with the week old antenna.
  14. Thanks for the replies. It doesn't sound too encouraging but maybe I'll be one of the lucky ones. How long before the third brake light starts leaking? I guess it's a little much to expect a $50k truck not to leak. Maybe I should keep it in the garage and park the convertible out in the rain. What a shame. Except for this one problem I really like this truck. I am confident it can be fixed if it isn't already. Thanks again.
  15. I just got back from having the high frequency antenna (shark fin) replaced on the roof of my 2016 2500HD Chevy. The tech said they replaced the old one with a new one that is the same part as the old. He said the way they snap in they can't be reused once they are removed. While waiting at the window I saw a service sheet for another truck which said that poor guy was getting at least his second fix for a leak. So, my question is - how many times can this be expected to happen? My goodness, it cannot be that difficult to seal up a hole if the roof. What have others ran into with this problem? He said the headliner was fine and only needed drying out. There is no visible sign at all of there ever being a problem so I am OK with that, but I sure don't want to do it again. Thanks!
