Ended up being a bad starter. The gears on the starter had no pressure pulling them away from the flywheel cause it to chatter against the flywheel. Thanks fellows for getting me headed in the right direction!

5.3L V8 Flex Fuel 127K miles

My 08 sierra 1500 4x4 starting ticking. It can be be faintly heard at idle but is more noticeable during acceleration. It is definitely rpm related. Checked and didnt notice an exhaust leak. Starting to think its coming from the bell housing as the noise is louder with the inspection plate removed. No check engine light. Engine sounds good and shifts normal. Any ideas? Thanks
