  1. Top dog..sorry. I don't have the TSB number. If you Google General Motors TSB you should come across a site that will allow you to search TSB's by make/model/year. It didn't take me long to find my TSB when searching for "2017 Canyon transmission". I'll be BACK at the dealer in the next week.. I'm hopeful I can take the mechanic or service mge for a drive to replicate the issue. I've had enough of my truck stumbling around town searching for the right gear and shaking all over creation. Will post more on this issue after I talk to the dealer. Good luck with yours.
  2. An update to my V6 transmission issue. I took it in for the next oil change and relayed the issue with the transmission had not gone away after the transmission flush. Same symptoms, a little less severe. Rather than recommending another trans flush, they said they were going to replace the torque converter and flush the fluid. I'm sorry to report that after the new torque converter the sypmtoms are the same. No change. It's almost as if they did NOT change the torque converter, or the torque converter was not the issue.. That service was 2 weeks ago. So, I'm calling Monday to talk to an advisor. I'll ask to speak to a service manager if I don't like what I hear. I have all my service records... 8 in all... documenting the issue that is not fixed. I can't continue to drive a truck that struggles up hills and vibrates under a slight load on the transmission. I'll post as necessary after my next service visit. Thanks for all the comments/replies.
  3. Gary, lots of the same issues in the forum with the 8 spd. My 'shudder' issues started around 8 thousand miles and got worse up until they found the technical service bulletin detailing the trans flush. The flush fixes the shudder, temporarily. My shudder is back with a vengeance at 23K miles. Taking it in again for an oil change and the transmission issue will be brought up again. It's under warranty.. yeah... but like you, I think there is probably some long term damage being done to the transmission and torque converter. I'll address that in my next visit with the service manager. All the other issues you listed with the transmisison... lazy gear changes, quick to find the top gear, slow to downshift when you need power are all characteristics of a transmission built to get high mileage at the expense of performance. All cars and trucks are going that way I think. That's the world we live in. You're on the right track knowing about the TSB on the trans flush. Let us know how your service visit turns out. Good luck.
  4. I know that the same 8 spd transmissions are used across multiple platforms at GM. I"m sure the 8 spd in the Camaro is programmed to be more sporty than in a truck. I haven't done any research on the Camaro transmission. I"m keeping my fingers crossed that after this next visit (if they decide to flush the transmission...) the problem will go away. Thanks for the reply.
  5. Rpett, after the first transmission flush the truck performed great.. smooth shifting, quick shifting, no issues. After about 1000 miles I noticed slight hesitation and the problem has been creeping back in and getting worse. Truck will be back in the dealer in the next month. I have a local resource that works for a GM dealer close to my home. I emailed him my issues and he's checking with his GM Master mechanic to find out what the 'long term' plan will be for all these trucks with transmission issues. Like you, I"m skeptical that a trans flush will alleviate the problem. I"m also skeptical that there has not been any damage caused to my transmission. Some of the vibrations have been bad enough to rattle the change I keep in the dash tray. I"ll post back after my next visit.
  6. Rustbukt, see my reply to 'rpett'. Same issue. I"ll have more to report back after my next service in a month or so. Hopefully the problem gets better with the multiple trans flushes.
  7. I ran into the same issue. They found a Technical Service Bulletin that addressed the EXACT issue I was having... vibration from the transmission under load on the torque converter. They recommended a complete trans flush. I can say that after the flush, the transmission was smooth as glass... like new again. After a few thousand miles, the same issue is back, although not as severe. I am not getting the hard vibration that I was getting before, but a softer vibration. The transmission is still hesitating a LOT before upshifting to a lower gear going up a hill though. If I get to a hill, and feed in more gas, then more gas, then MORE gas the transmission hesitates before finally upshifting to the next gear or even 2 gears lower to handle the hill. I'm taking the truck back for an oil change/tire rotation in another 500 miles. I"ll address the issue again and report back. It looks like from other posts that GM will probably recommend another full trans flush again. As a side note, I'm pretty happy with the truck, but disappointed with the transmission aside from the issues i'm having. The transmission to me is LAZY.. slow to shift, never seems to be in the right gear, and it hurries to get to the highest gear for better fuel economy. Thanks for the replies!
  8. Hi Rick, an update to the transmission issue... I took it in for service and they did not find the problem. I took the truck out for a drive with the Service Manager and, of course, the transmission did NOT act up with him with me. The issue continued to get worse over the next 500 miles, so I took it in again to have it checked along with an oil change. They called me and said they had found a Technical Service Bulletin for the exact same issue I am having. The TSB describes the issue as this.. "Vibration felt coming from transmission when using light throttle going uphill, or light throttle accelerating in higher gears. Also hesitation when accelerating away from a stop when gears are about to change.". The TSB recommended a full transmission fluid flush and the truck be driven at least 200 miles before the issue is reported again for service. Currently I have driven the truck over 200 miles and do not notice any vibration and no hesitation in the transmission. I hope the issue has been fixed, but I'm leary that a simple trans flush is the long-term solution. Time will tell I guess. Thanks for the reply Rick.
  9. RedCanyon, are you sure it's not just the fan? I have noticed the same issue in my Canyon. If I'm driving under 10 miles an hour, just coasting and the fan is on the lowest setting, I hear the whine of the fan running. If I hit the 'fan off' button it's perfectly quiet. Is that the same issue you're having?
  10. Wondering if anyone else has noticed anything wrong with their 8 speed transmissions.. Over the last 100 miles or so I have noticed what I can only describe as a cavitation coming from my transmission. It's usually occurs when travelling in the top gear (8th) and under moderate throttle (picking up speed). I can feel a vibration in the gas pedal, seat, and steering wheel. I thought it might just be bad gas and the engine was hesitating a little, but that's not it. I filled up with premium on the last tank and still having the same issue. I use the word cavitation because it feels like the vibration you'd get in a boat when the prop hits an air pocket.. like a really fast vibration. It's also similar to an engine bogging in a manual transmission when you're in too high a gear with too little speed. Anyone else noticed their transmission making any similar vibrations? I've scheduled a service visit. Truck only has 16,000 miles so I hope there is nothing catastrophic going on. Thanks for your input.
  11. I just recently purchased my 2017 Canyon SLE V6 for $30,262. It came with SLE trim, Tow package with hitch and trailer brake controller. Also had spray in bedliner and the Convenience Pkg with sliding rear window, 8 inch display, Auto climate control, etc. It's a Crew Cab, short box truck. Love it so far. *Wish it had a damn CD player though... I guess i'm old school. I have a ton of CD's and really don't feel like spending hours upon hours ripping CD's to a thumb drive. But hey, that's PROGRESS... right??
  12. 15HDriver, Thanks for the reply. I have the Auto Climate Control to off (no light lit) and the temperature setting on 68 normally. I have the A/C button turned off (no light lit) and the fan usually on next to low. From what I can tell MOST of the time the fan runs, blowing ambient air from outside the cabin. Then I feel the air get colder, and the windshield gets condensation on it from the cold air. If I look down, the lights on the auto A/C and the A/C button are both NOT lit, but the A/C is definitely on. The only way to turn off the compressor is to hit the fan off switch. It seems counter-intuitive to have a button saying 'A/C' that lights up when you press it and it turns on the Air Conditioning, but then you have to press that same button to get the air to turn OFF when it's NOT lit at all. I thought someone that's had a Canyon for some time would be able to explain or tell me if I have some sort of software glitch. Thanks again.
  13. Just bought a new Canyon V6 SLE. Enjoying the truck, but the A/C is baffling me. If I"m driving along with the fan on low, and the A/C OFF (no A/C light, and no light on the Auto A/C). Periodically, I will notice very cold air coming out of the vents, and condensation on my windshield. There doesn't seem to be any excess humidity to cause the A/C to come on. I checked the Climate Control settings on the touchscreen and turned both the auto defog feature for the front and rear to OFF.. The only way to get the A/C compressor to turn off is to push the OFF button for the fan. This turns everything off. If I turn the fan back on to low... no A/C no condensation.. just the fan blows as it should. I've watched it closely and cannot get any rhyme or reason as to WHY the A/C is coming on by itself. If there is a feature built in to the truck whereby it senses excess humidity and turns on the compressor automatically, then you would think there would be a visual queue, such as the A/C light illuminating for the period that the compressor is on, then the light going back off again. I don't notice any of this. Anybody else noticed their air coming on and off automatically? Thanks for your reply
