  1. I am the original starter of this thread. My truck now has just shy of 28,000 miles on it and is still a basket case. I now have issues of delayed engagement, occasional shudder from the TC, drivers info center repeatedly will tell me to open and close my drivers window, passenger power mirror occasionally won’t close/open, and getting popping/clunking from the front end. I have no idea what the issues are anymore and have stopped all attempts to have repaired. I am still working through the lemon law process. Outside of these issues, it is the nicest truck I’ve ever had and I wish it wouldn’t have gone this way. It is somewhat suspect that they aren’t offering the 5.3 with 8 speed and AFM in the 2019, only with the DFM.....
  2. Good luck! If you aren’t happy, hold your ground until you’re out of options. Maybe get a replacement truck? No new news on my side. Suit was filed 4 weeks ago, now their investigation and see what they come back with.
  3. I am glad this thread is starting to hit search functions so other people can try to use what I’m going through to help them. On the downside, I hate that other people have issues like this. As the last person posted, it is very crucial to be persistent, keep your cool, and document. If you are recording phone calls, legally you have to inform and receive consent, just be aware of that. The key step is to figure out how to make it happen on command, take a tech with you, then make them drive and do the same thing. Then have them document that; it asserts an issue exists, which will be helpful as the case proceeds. I’ve committed myself to the long haul. 3-10 month process, I’m hoping we get it done in 3 months as I know GM wants my truck to take to their proving grounds. All in all, GM has over $10k in repair attempts on my truck. Crazy.
  4. Best of luck to you as well. I am going to continue posting updates as I strongly suspect this truck will continue to worsen before I can complete the lemon law process, which according to my lawyer may take 3 (best case) to 10 months (worst case). I’ve kept a good relationship with the dealer through the process, so I think that will work in my favor. No sense is screaming like a raging lunatic, unless provoked of course. The General Manager got a little of it because he said it was doing it “because of my driving style”. This was of course before they pulled half of my motor apart.
  5. I just wanted to report back that mine does it all the way from 30 to 70 degrees. I’ve driven in all of those conditions, still does it. Wanted to close out this old post with a response that temperature doesn’t affect my issue.
  6. Went to pick up the truck, took a drive with the tech and it is still doing it, although improved. Some pretty concerning damage was found on the valve stem/guide on the #5 intake valve, but that still wasn’t it. They did a bunch more, but I am officially done. They will be putting a motor in it, but I am proceeding with a lemon law refund.
  7. Update (day 28, 52 total): I have been notified my truck is back together and “fixed”. Meeting with the dealer today to pick it up and discuss replacement options. I don’t expect them to have a solid proposal for me. I have zero interest in staying in this vehicle. If the root cause is valve guides and springs, I am probably done with GM altogether. I wrote them off before on a Grand Am 3.1with bad valve guides at low mileage that they wouldn’t do anything on, but I came back several years later for another try. This is GM #2 on the retry, first one was perfect (14’ Sierra). We shall see, don’t know how the meeting is going to go.
  8. Good luck!!! Here is more information I just got: “Well I got an update from my tech just now, he found an issue with the intake valve guide on cylinder #5. There is slight end play on that valve compared to the other valves so we are going to be replacing the cylinder head on the driver side. The tech has talked with the engineer and they both agree that this could cause incomplete combustion on that cylinder intermittently. So there is a very good chance we found our smoking gun. Now we have a lot more confidence in this repair. “
  9. Update (again): They are replacing the lifters and valve springs. This is some weird stuff. Fuel injectors fixed in temporarily, now this? I just can’t connect the dots on it. Sounds to me as if they are throwing parts at it again.
  10. Update (day 25): This is the latest from the service manager. Unbelievable they are still working on this. What in the world are they looking for? Cracks?? “GM engineering had us remove both cylinder heads to inspect the piston rings and cylinder walls which all checked out good, we have the cylinder heads off still and we have removed the lifters, valves and springs for inspection also. I have someone coming in today to look over everything. Our tech isn’t seeing any issues with anything but there is the possibility of something that we can’t visually see. I will update you after the rep from GM leaves today.”
  11. Update (Day 24 on 4th repair, 48 days total): I was contacted today by the dealer that they have detected an issue and are pulling the cylinder heads off the motor today. They could not elaborate more. They are putting together a trade assistance offer for me, which I most likely will not accept. I will share more when I know more, but it is nice to know that they owned up to there being an issue. Stay tuned!
  12. Yes, mine is an 8 speed. I don’t think I am dealing with any trans issues though. GM field service engineers have been trying to figure it out for 22 days now. I’m on day 46 total for this issue. I heard they had an identical truck there and were comparing data between the two as of last Wednesday. I can’t move forward on my lemon law until they “fix” it. I’m guessing that if I haven’t heard that this is “normal” yet, then they actually have an issue they can’t figure out.
  13. I don’t even want a new one from them, I just want my money back. But yes, one would think it would have been easier to move me into another by now. I would have accepted it before, not anymore.
