My used replacement rack is sticking, so trying to disassemble and repair my original sticking rack. Made a tool to remove spring end, but is stuck. Wish me luck. If anyone has disassembled there rack, any pointers would be appreciated, hope not to loose a limb.

Kmbz71's 2006 Silverado Extended Cab Truck with the Crew Cab Bed Build

If you still haven’t put the cab on, I would think exhaust manifolds/headers would be be a good idea, intake, engine harness, a/c compressor, etc. anything that doesn’t get in the way of dropping the cab on. I have a 05 1500HD 6.0 with Quadrasteer would like to do a 6.2 and 8L90E swap, you certainly give me some motivation. -
HELP Bad News Sounds Coming From Engine (VIDEO)

Unless you bought it new, and did all services with dealer, I would not get my hopes up. Again are those the correct exhaust manifold bolts? Really need more information, was the only work they did was the manifold bolts? Did they change the oil? Etc. -

It is a definite possibility, but it is one way to diagnose the noise. -

I a mechanic and really want to think it is a coincidence that it happened right after the manifold bolt repair but, really only 55k miles on engine? It can be hard to be sure if it’s a rod and/or cam/lifter, try disconnecting each fuel injector one at a time if it’s a rod noise should change when unloaded. Are those correct manifold bolts? -
20 Quarts of oil in the engine?!

Most likely the last oil change place forgot to drain the oil, scary part is it happens more than you think.- 6 replies

Had to do my rear axle side bearings, like stated put on a lift or stands, I like a stethoscope to check bearings, listen to all 3 bearings in differential, both rear wheel, and driveshaft support bearings. I also did my pinion bearing on my differential but it was mint, at the time had less then 90,000 miles.

Davester thanks again for your input. Zero Gravity sells everything needed to install a 6L80 or 6L90, so I may start off with that, as hoping the .85 fifth gear will work well when I am trying to do 70 to 80 mph up hills, the 4L80 has a 1.0 3rd which screams bloody murder now. I have a 93 tune from Nelson which is 12 or so years old, would a newer tune be any better?

Have 05 1500HD Quadrasteer which I love! Has 6.0 with 4 speed, range when towing is just over 200 miles. So I would like to switch a late 6.2 with 8 speed drivetrain which is very expensive, or a late 6.0 VVT with 8 speed just not sure if being cheap at the point that I am changing drivetrain I should just do 6.2. My questions are has anyone done this type of change as searches have not come up with much. Have been waiting a few years for 4 wheel steer to return but seems like it never will. Thanks for any information!
