Minor upgrade to the Bose system
Bish replied to Bish's topic in 2015-2019 Silverado & Sierra HD Mods
Didn't know there was a button on the tweeters Only thing I can think of is you have them out of phase. IE, positive to negative. When I installed the rears there was the least amount of improvement of all the speakers sitting in the front seat. It was definitely a slight improvement though and not worse. Bear in mind I have a sub under the back seat too so that may make the rears sound better. However, I had the sub with the original speakers too. -

The only downside to tapping the sub output to power your amp is the Bose system pulls bass as you turn up the volume to save the speakers. You would be well served if you have a remote gain control for your amp so you can crank it up when the Bose system pulls power from the sub. -

It is definitely an improvement. Huge, no. No louder, just cleaner sound IMO. I'm also sure the dynamat (actually used Stinger Roadkill Expert) helps some but wouldn't venture to guess what percentage was speaker improvement and what percentage was sound deadener improvement. Regarding how difficult, on a scale of 1-10 I would say a 3-4. Door panels come off really easy once you remove the proper bolts and use a pry tool to pop the clips. It goes back on even easier. The Crutchfield speaker wire adapters made it plug and play. The dash speakers were a little more difficult only because of access as the windshield stops you from using a lot of tools. All I did was watch some videos on how to remove the panels and gave it a shot. Mind you I consider myself very mechanically inclined. I have stripped the interior of my vehicles completely in the past to install stereo and sound proofing. Those days are gone for me now though The sub was pretty easy too. Install was simple. the hardest part was running the wires to under the driver's dash and finding the proper wires to tap. Just followed the instructions. The sub was no more difficult to install than the door and dash speakers. -

Did not disconnect the Bose sub yet. I am thinking about testing it with and without it. Here are a couple pics. -

Speakers fit in the dash. Screws were a little tight so start them both a bit before tightening down. No connectors available so had to splice into the speaker wires. I wanted to leave the original connectors in case I ever go back for sale. Regarding the rear seat space, I have the GM underseat storage. I trimmed the storage so it meets with the sub pretty cleanly and I still have almost 2/3 of the storage space. I can try to take a pic if you are interested. -

Only thing about the kicker I don't like is no volume control for the sub. I'm trying to figure out how to wire in a gain control for the Kicker. Sometimes depending on the source it is overpowering and other times great. Would rather have a quick knob to dial than go into tone controls. -

Yes. It has an 8" sub in the console. In my last few Bose vehicles I have found the sub to be lacking. So much so that Bose actually reduces the bass as you turn the volume up so as not to blow their cheap sub. The Kicker made a big improvement to low frequency bass. -
Just an FYI I ran almost exclusively B20 biodiesel in my 2011 LML. It is up to 150K now and runs strong.. Probably 80% of the fillups were at a local station. I ran into a fuel engineer that was at the pump one day as he was sampling. It is a private label sold at Mobil. Said the bio helps with lubricity especially on the long haul trucks.

Factory cables. Got the extensions from crutchfield to go from speaker to factory connection. BTW how much did the Morimoto headlight upgrade improve the oem HID's? Been considering doing those along with the fogs. -

Did it myself. Took me about 90 minutes per door. Pretty easy job IMO. -
2017 2500HD Denali with Bose. Had the Kicker under seat sub installed when I bought it. After a year I felt the sound was lacking and wanted to do something. Last GM I had with Bose I did a full Cleansweep after amp install with new amps and speakers. I was not looking for that. I wanted a little better sound without breaking the bank. Shot Crutchfield an email to see what they had to say. I told them I wanted high sensitivity speakers with impedance as close to the oem speaker as possible. They suggested the following. Infinity Reference REF-9632ix 6x9 Coax in front doors Infinity Reference REF-6532ix 6.6 coax in the back doors Memphis Audio PRX27 2.75" coax in the dash Found some confusion on the impedence of the speakers. One place it says they are 4ohm another they say they are 3ohm. They measured at about 2.5 so they were really close to the Bose speakers. I did the install with the addition of some dynamat. Not a complete coating of the doors, maybe 60%-70% coverage on the shell and the interior. So what's the verdict? I'd say 20%+ improvement in sound quality. The bass is much tighter out of the front doors and less muddy. Cleaner punch with less distortion. Now it's no audiophile system by any stretch. Wasn't looking for that. Had to completely reset the tone controls but so far I am pretty happy with the upgrade for a few hundred bucks. We'll see how it wears on me.

I haven't caught any birds yet. I personally like the look. I love the engineering. Has a drain in the hood on the driver's side and plumbs to the air filter on the passenger side. Best benefit for me is more air and intake air temps that equal outside air temp! I'm guessing that will help a lot in the hot summer. We'll see.

I installed a Fold-a-Cover G4Elite last weekend. It is the rigid quad folding type. Installation was simple with well thought out directions. Went together no problem. The latches seems to be reasonably good quality. I like that I can fold up two of the four sections and secure them if I am hailing something tall. It seems reasonably secure with locking latches front and rear. Pretty sure a determined thief could break in but it seems like a reasonable deterrent. All in all I am very happy with the fit and quality. I also got the personal caddy which gives you storage in the front of the bed. I had a roll up in my last truck and just wasn't happy with a soft cover and I didn't want a full length hinge model. We'll see how this one does after six months of hauling stuff.

I believe the kicker option is a 200W amp. There's also the JL Stealthbox option but that is over a grand without an amp and not plug and play. I did have a Stealthbox in my 2008 Yukon Denali and it was spectacular.
