both of my sierras had that. premature battery drain. i just bought a 2012 and good so far. the 2000 i had would drain batteries after 2 years. dead stuck on a 2 year old battery. my 89 was the same way, i put atleast 5 batteries in that over the life. 2 years dead, next one 3 years dead. not sure if it was the alternator or not, never checked it.
