  1. Drove a new 2020 GMC 3500HD SLT Duramax CC SRW short box 4x4 last night. I noticed that it had the X31 Off Road Package. The window sticker mentioned Rancho shocks. Is the spring rate any different? I'm looking at 3500HD's for additional payload (5th wheel) but also looking for the best unloaded ride I can get.
  2. Thanks much for the replies on ride quality of 2500 vs. 3500. From research I've done thus far, GM's 3500 seem to have the best ride when compared to equal Ford and RAM trucks. For those with 3500's, did you happen to test drive comparable trucks from Ford and RAM? RAM offers the additional air suspension on 3500 trucks that adds air leveling in addition to existing leaf springs, but those are hard to find (at least locally) and I've not been able to test drive one. While I plan to test both Ford and RAM, I'm thinking that the GM's will be hard to beat for unloaded ride quality. I tested a 2500HD CC regular box a week or so back, and could not believe how nice the unloaded ride was!
  3. I'm torn between 2500HD and 3500HD. I'd be purchasing for future 5th wheel use, and even though GM raised GVWR's for the 2500HD, I could still run out of payload depending on how big 5th wheel we purchased. This truck would be my DD and 80% would be non towing with nothing in the bed other than groceries. Unloaded ride quality is an important item for me. In the quote above, if the 3500HD uses the same rear main spring pack as the 2500HD, would it be fair to say that they both ride equally well unloaded?
  4. My '09 has around 31k miles on it and was burning a quart in around 1600 miles. First time I brought it in, they replaced the driver side valve cover. No change in oil comsumption. Next time they dropped the pan, installed the deflector, and de-carbonized the driver side pistons and rings. Still no change. The last time I brought it in, I was expecting that they would replace pistons and rings, but apparently GM wanted them to try one more drivers valve cover. I'm watching now to see if there will be any change. My dealer has been great to work with, but I gotta say its getting a little old bringing the truck in for this problem...
  5. Just had the dealer reprogram my '09 Silverado CC so that I can turn off the auto lock function. Best $25 I've spent on the truck in a long while. When I first mentioned it to the service write, he said it was not possible. Then he asked the other service writers, and they said the same. I asked if they could run it past the tech to see if he knows. Ten minutes later it was done.
