1. Those are just people in call centers running interference for GM. 99.9% probably don't even drive a GM vehicle or are even located in the US.
2. This is one reason for downtime, produce the vehicles for the test fleet.. First of all as part of the development program we typically have small numbers of vehicles that we put out in the hands of people that drive them on a daily basis. That’s a part of our development program that occurs prior to production. We call that a “captured test fleet”. Captured meaning we know where the vehicles are and we know who the drivers are, and test fleet because the vehicle aren’t in production yet. We use the versions that we build at the tail end of the development cycle to really put them out there on a daily basis to get better understanding of what’s going on with the vehicles. 3.
Some 2021 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 trucks equipped with the 5.3L V8 engine (RPO L82) and 6L80 6-speed automatic transmission (RPO MYC) or the 5.3L V8 engine (RPO L84) (Fig. 19) and 8L90 8-speed automatic transmission (RPO MQE) may not have the Active Fuel Management/AFM (L82 engine) or Dynamic Fuel Management/DFM (L84 engine) feature. Beginning in March 2021, trucks produced without AFM or DFM are identified with RPO YK9 – Not Equipped with Cylinder Deactivation. TIP: Any truck with RPO YK9 cannot be reprogramed and changed to turn on or activate the AFM/DFM functionality. AFM can provide maximum fuel economy under light load driving conditions by deactivating engine cylinders 1, 7, 6, and 4, switching to a V4 mode. DFM has the ability to deactivate any combination of cylinder valves, which allows for a large variety of firing sequences. The control of every cylinder event optimizes engine performance so that peak efficiency is obtained throughout the range of engine operation. While diagnosing engine or electrical wiring concerns on these models, keep in mind that internal components related to AFM or DFM functions will be present in the engines as well as related wiring, connectors and fuses. The Engine Control Module (ECM) will not be capable of activating the cylinder deactivation technology. When diagnosing and repairing concerns regarding engine or electrical functions that may be related to AFM- or DFM-related hardware, follow the diagnostics in the appropriate Service Information. No changes have been made to AFM- or DFM-related components. For additional information, refer to #21-NA-078.
4. Very often with dealer trades you pay the going prices, less any factory rebates. Can't expect the dealer to go through all that, chasing after the vehicle and then sell it to you are sale price. Also dealers in different regions pay different GM regional advertising fees (embedded on invoice) that the trading dealer wants to be reimbursed for so the wanting dealer may pay more for the vehicle then if they had ordered it themselves. Freight and dealer fees are NEVER negotiated, that's one thing no dealer will ever agree to.
5. Most dealers are living day to day and are mostly interested in selling whats on their lot. They make NO MONEY on an ordered vehicles till it built and delivered to them for sale, they have no control over GM's production schedules. So they really don't worry about those because they have sales goals to meet. I know a salesman (ret) for over 25 yrs at GMC/Buick/Cadillac dealer, he was asst sales manager and he confided in me that the salesmen hate to deal with orders because it cuts into their time on the sales floor/lot. So while you are talking to a salesman about placing an order, in the back of his mind he can't wait till you leave so he can selling whats on the lot and make his quota for the week/month or he will lose his job. Since I bought my 2021 Sierra in Dec of 2020 my local dealer has completely changed over the sales staff, several were demoted to service advisors on their way out the door.
6. Dealer is under NO obligation to use GM parts. They often make more money sourcing cheaper parts locally while GM pays them GM prices. Its very common practice. Why don't customers realize this? The dealer is not your friend, all you are is a $ sign to them. They will substitute anything they want, 99 out of 100 customers won't even pay attention.
7. The dealer can't/won't do it unless you bought accessory GM wheels and tires from them. That's the only way they can get a calibration for different sizes as they can ONLY do it for GM approved tire/wheel combination. Doing it for customer supplied wheels/tires has liability concerns.
8. Temperature can vary from location to location. Whats more reading between equipment can vary. The temp sensor is located in center of grill below hood latch support.
9. I have optional gloss black wheels (rpo SGM) with associated black lugs nut and wheel locks and after 3 winters, they are rusty.
10. Dealer Order Submission Process (DOSP) · 1100 Preliminary Order Accepted. (no constraints or entry errors; needs dealer allocation to move forward) · 2000 Order Accepted by GMAD (Dealer used allocation to place order) · 2500 Order preferenced (“Picked Up”), Sent to Production Control (PC) · 3000 Order Accepted by Production Control (PC) · 3100 Order Available to Sequence (ok from PC that all parts are available for this build) · 3300 Order Selected and scheduled by Assembly Plant (Target Production Week Available) · 3400 Order broadcasted (sent to all suppliers and depts. in the plant, locked in sequence to the end of the line, build process underway) · 3800 Vehicle Produced, it’s come off the production line. VIN now available. · 4000 Vehicle Available to Ship · 4104 Bailment Invoice Created (Shipping doc’s) · 4B00 Bayed (“B”, not Parked waiting on transportation · 4D00 Bayed for Quality Control (unknown time period) · 4106 Bailment Released (Rc’vd by Transport Co.) · 4150 Vehicle Invoiced to Dealer · 4200 Vehicle Shipped (In Transit) · 4300 Intermediate Delivery by truck (off-site rail head, up-fitter, etc ) · 4V03 Estimated Delivery Date · 4800 Rail Ramp Unload, at the final distribution center. 11. The holdup is a software issue. When the dealer entering the order into the system it automatically generates an order number and defaults to event code 1100, preliminary order accepted (by the order system, no input errors). Until the dealer receives an allocation and applies it to the order, it will sit at event code 1100 forever. Placing an order with a dealer is NO guarantee it will be produced. The dealer has to get GM to accept the order. Dealers are awarded allocations based on prior sales and other factors such as constrains on production. The dealers know how many they will be allocated but that does not stop them from pre-selling more units than allocated. For instance, a dealer knowing they got 2 allocations over the next 2 months for a Canyon Denali can presell 10. They are under no obligation to disclose their allocations, and many will bs customers in hopes to sell you something else. Never trust the word of a salesman, you are just a $ sign to them.
12. Don't know if it was said but some time ago I read service info that said the axle were lube filled at the axle plant, not the final assembly plant. I am sure they use means to cut costs such as filling to the minimum level and with lube from the lowest bidder. .
13. The problem with the QS is parts are getting harder and harder to find and becoming extremely costly. Its not if it breaks down but when.
14. I have owned many 4wd trucks over 40 yrs and tire cupping IS NOT the fault of the truck per se, its the tire design. Its normal with ANY 4wd and more pronounced with aggressive tread tires.
15.
They do offer calibrations, but again only for factory authorized sizes.
BUT Only with the purchase of accessory tires and wheels from GM through the dealer. The GM Accessory tire and wheel purchase comes with a calibration, if so needed. Many think; truck could be purchased with this size so dealer can calibrate but they can not and will not.
