ORLANDO - General Motors last week opened an updated version of "GM Dreamchasers," a show that made its debut in 2001. "Dreamchasers" is located within the "Test Track presented by GM" attraction at the Epcot® theme park within WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort.
"Dreamchasers" is a video experience that takes place on a moving "cyber seat," and gives park guests a sneak peek at several future technologies including GM's Virtual Vehicle Development Laboratory, OnStar, XM Satellite Radio, Displacement on Demand (DOD) engines, and advanced fuel cell technology.
The new "Dreamchasers" show combines real-world images and animation using 3-D projection. The story is narrated by a HUMMER H2 toy vehicle, which takes guests on a fascinating journey. The cyber seats allow guests to experience the story in Spanish, Portuguese, English and closed captioning. "Dreamchasers" is also wheelchair-accessible.
"The new 'Dreamchasers' show is a perfect example of our ongoing commitment to feature the latest and greatest GM technology at this world-class vacation destination. We believe the story will entertain and inform both young and older Epcot® guests," said Steve Tihanyi, general director of marketing alliances and regional operations for General Motors.
Tihanyi also indicated that GM's presence at the WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort is another example of GM's focus on communicating with consumers in non-traditional ways. "Even though we know people are going to be thrilled and entertained at 'Test Track presented by GM,' we also know they are going to take away a greater awareness of GM brands and associated products," said Tihanyi.
The "Test Track presented by GM," which opened in 1999, is a mile-long attraction that provides park-goers with an inside look at the world of automotive engineering, design and testing. Riders, in specially designed vehicles, experience the rigors of a GM Proving Ground testing environment, including hill climbing, ABS brake testing, hot- and cold-weather testing, extreme mountain roads, barrier crash testing, and high-speed driving on the outdoor portion of the track. The attraction also features a GM vehicle display, which is updated monthly, and a boutique that features GM collectibles and merchandise.
In 1979, General Motors became the first corporation to sign an agreement with the WALT DISNEY WORLD® Co. to sponsor an attraction at Epcot®. GM began actively collaborating with the WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort in 1982, when it opened its World of Motion Pavilion at Epcot®. "Test Track presented by General Motors" is home to Disney's longest and fastest thrill ride. Since opening in 1999, more than 20 million visitors from every corner of the globe have enjoyed this attraction.
