General Motors Wins "Corporate Energy Management of the Year" Award

DETROIT – General Motors (GM) received the Corporate Energy Management of the Year Award from the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) yesterday at the association’s annual conference in Atlanta.

The award recognizes the company’s worldwide leadership in energy efficiency and renewable energy, according to AEE.

GM and A123Systems to Co-Develop Lithium-Ion Battery Cell for Chevrolet Volt

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – General Motors Corp. and A123Systems, Inc. will co-develop cells with A123System's nanophosphate battery chemistry for a long-lasting, safe and powerful battery for use in GM’s electric drive E-Flex system. The agreement is expected to expedite the development of the batteries for both electric plug-in vehicles and fuel cell variants of the E-Flex architecture.

GM Reports Preliminary Second Quarter Financial Results

DETROIT – General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) today released its preliminary financial results for the 2007 second quarter, marked by record automotive revenue driven by strong sales in key growth markets, improved net income, and solid operating cash flow.

“We again saw improved results in sales, income and cash flow this quarter, driven by the continued successful implementation of our business strategies,” said Rick Wagoner, GM chairman and chief executive officer. “In particular, our heavy commitment to key growth markets around the world really paid off in strong growth and earnings. In North America we continue to make progress with our focus on great new products, a disciplined sales and marketing strategy, and structural cost reduction, although profitability remains close to breakeven."

General Motors Allison Transmission and Aisin Seiki announce changes to joint venture in Japan

TOKYO – Aisin Seiki Co., Ltd. and Allison Transmission, General Motors Corporation announced today that their Aisin General Motors Allison (AGMA) joint venture will come to an end on July 31, 2007. Over the course of the ten year relationship, the joint venture realized significant success in penetration of light-medium- and heavy-duty trucks and buses in the Japanese commercial vehicle market.

GM Announces Global Quarterly Sales In Excess of 2.4 Million Vehicles; Record Sales Outside US

DETROIT - General Motors sold 2.405 million cars and trucks around the world in the second quarter of 2007, reporting record sales outside the United States, according to preliminary sales figures released today. GM sold 2.395 million vehicles in the second quarter last year.

"GM's second quarter sales were driven by exceptionally strong demand in emerging markets. GM global sales of 4.67 million vehicles for the first half of the year reflects solid results, in fact we're on track to have our second-best annual sales performance in our almost 100-year history," John Middlebrook, GM vice president, Global Sales, Service and Marketing Operations, said today. "In the second quarter we experienced record sales growth around the globe including 20 percent growth in Latin America, Africa and the Middle East - an all-time quarterly record for that region, and 8 percent growth in the Asia/Pacific region. We're also pleased to see almost 5 percent growth in Europe where we sold more than 574,000 vehicles."
