  3. Would you buy a Chinese-made Buick crossover?

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    8/17/2015
The Detroit Free Press has reported that GM is considering importing for sale in the U.S. a new crossover larger than the Encore and smaller than the Enclave (think RAV 4 size) from China. Oddly, we had just joked in a story earlier today about SUVs that the Chinese pronounce the word car "Byu-Wick." Like with the Holden Commodore from Australia we know as the Chevy SS, and the new Buick Cascada from GM's Opel in Europe, the UAW has a lot to say about GM vehicles imported from outside North America. Most of what it says is not printable in a family publication.

  4. With new diesel, GM looking to boost midsize pickup production

    Teaser Paragraph:

    Zane Merva
    Executive Editor, GM-Trucks.com
    10/15/15

The Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize pickups are selling just as quickly as GM can make them. With a new diesel engine coming online this fall, the company expects demand to “pickup” even further. Currently, Canyon and Colorado have under a 30-day supply at dealerships.

  5. Will Chevy Traverse and Buick Enclave Stay Big in 2017?

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    1/20/2016
The recently revealed 2017 GMC Acadia gets smaller, lighter and more fuel efficient for 2017. With such close model alignment between GMC, Buick, and Chevy one would assume that the 2017 models of the Traverse and Enclave would follow suit. However, Automotive News (AN), a publication we hold in very high regard, is reporting that it thinks otherwise. This is based partly on a short comment by GM's Mark Reuss (who our own Zane Merva interviewed recently and who was kind enough to spend some time with this writer chatting off the record). In the context of whether the Chevy and Buick large crossovers would follow this smaller design of the GMC, Reuss is quoted as saying “The brand separation in size and mission and the positioning of these vehicles has never been more differentiated.” This makes Automotive News think GM will not keep the three amigos aligned. AN further speculates that GM will create a new crossover to slot in between the Equinox/Enclave. The problem with that logic is that Buick has just launched the new Envision, which is smaller than the Equinox by a little bit.

  6. Will Camaro's illuminated bow tie appear on Silverado Midnight?

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    7/26/2015
Sharp-eyed Camaro writers have picked out an option from the Camaro order guide that people are starting to talk about. Apparently, the 2016 Camaro will be offered with a blacked-out bow tie logo and also a new illuminated gold bow tie. As cool as that will look on the grill of the new Camaro, our first thoughts were that the new factory illuminated option would look great on both the Silverado Midnight Edition and Black-out Edition.

  7. Why was this Cadillac ELR so lonely at the Boston Car Show?

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham

    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    1/16/2016
Despite having one of the best looks of any GM product, the newish Cadillac ELR was never in danger of being over-run by journalists at this week's Boston Auto Show Press Day. Sadly, neither was the all-new Volt, which by the way looks exactly like a Chevy Cruze. The ELR has a great spot in the Cadillac area too, very close to the Lexus display.

  8. Why the Chevy Colorado Is Not In This Holiday Picture

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    12/6/2015
Last year in advance of the holiday sales season I did an analysis of the sales volume over the two prior years. Indeed, vehicle holiday sales promotions do result in a big sales bump for most brands. Lexus is one of the top brands for sales-related gains during the holidays, but Chevy is no slouch. Last year, Chevy's December was 20% greater than its November sales.

  9. Why is GM's stock price now below its IPO price of 2009?

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    7/15/2015
Why don't investors love GM? The company is selling record numbers of vehicles, and it does not have to pay any tax on its profits for decades due to a "unique" bankruptcy deal it struck when it restructured six years ago, The General's trucks are clobbering the Ford F-150 in overall sales, GM has innovative, and diverse green car technology to keep the government on its side, and its specialty cars like the Corvette and Camaro are the envy of the world in terms of performance, value, and sales. So why aren't investors seeing value in GM stock? If we read the reports correctly GM's stock price is 33% below the value it would have had if it had just kept pace with the S&P 500 since it was added in June 2013.

  10. Why GM fans should root for the Chevy Bolt

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    12/3/2015
The Chevy Bolt battery electric car is due to be shown for the first time at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. You're mostly a truck fan with a bit of a muscle car fetish, so what the heck do you care? Well, simply put, it is in your financial interests that this car succeed. GM has to sell zero emissions vehicles in order to meet government mandates in 12 states including the largest car market in the U.S. (California). Car makers like GM have been putting off the inevitable for many years, and in some cases they pay other car companies that have extra zero emissions credits for them in order to comply. Would you rather see GM handing Tesla $15K per car credit it needs or selling cars built in its factories and minimizing its losses on green cars?

  11. Why Did the Tacoma Outsell the Colorado and Canyon in 2015?

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    1/5/2016
The numbers are in, and the Toyota Tacoma (179,561) outsold the Colorado (84,430) and Canyon (30,077) combined this year. In fact, even if you throw in the Nissan Frontier (30,076) the Tacoma still outsold the combined field of its rivals for 2015. The reason this is so is not because the 2016 Toyota Tacoma is better than the Colorado or Canyon. That is a matter of taste. We're sure it wasn't the 2016 model because even if we subtract out all the 2016 trucks the Tacoma was still the leader with its old 2015 model sales. No, the main reason the Tacoma won the sales race is that Toyota bet more boldly on the growth of mid-size trucks and built more capacity than did GM.

  12. Who wants a diesel Canyon or Colorado - GM adds the codes 1 2 3 4

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham

    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com

    5/14/2015

The news this week on the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon is that GM has started to update the 2016 ordering codes and is updating the order books to reflect the baby Duramax diesel engine packages. And they are packages. Diesels will come with engine (exhaust) braking and trailer options as part of the diesel package.

  13. Who Needs Diesel? 2016 Cruze Gas Matches 2015 Diesel MPG

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    4/18/2016
The latest press release from Chevy touts the 2016 Chevy Cruze's new 42 MPG EPA estimated highway mileage. Lost in that release by Chevy is the fact that the new 2016 Chevy Cruze Limited Eco's combined fuel efficiency is the same 33 MPG that the former diesel Cruze rated. Both the 42 MPG highway and 33 MPG combined numbers are impressive. The Cruze also uses regular unleaded fuel, which saves at the pump.

  14. Which Way Would You Prefer Cadillac Style? Hard or Soft?

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    10/5/2015
Cadillac's future is again in spotlight. This time it is GM development Chief Mark Reuss and Cadillac's new President (and former Infiniti President) Johan De Nysschen debating Cadillac's style. Mark Reuss is a second-generation GM employee who started in engineering and rose through the ranks. He was the number two person after Mary Barra for the top job at GM when she was chosen, making him the luckiest guy in the automotive world given the fun she's had. Reuss is also the kind of guy that shows up unannounced at media track days with a helmet in jeans and sneakers to ask the "car nuts" what they think of the new Corvette or Cadillac CTS-V (as this writer has witnessed first-hand). He wants the Caddy style to remain the way it is. Uniquely American, edgy and hard.

  15. Which special Camaro is this testing on the 'Ring?

    Teaser Paragraph:

    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    9/18/2015

OK Camaro nation, which of the off-the-hook Camaros is this? The person who filmed it says it is the 2017 ZL1. It could very well be. Or it could be Z/28. Or it could be a twin-turbo powered 3.6-liter V6 Camaro, or... The list is endless. What clues do you see to suggest it is or is not a ZL1? In the past has meant a 6.2-liter supercharged engine, but who is to say it will in the future?

  17. Where is GM selling all those SUVs?

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    8/17/2015
General motors is swamped with work at the Arlington, TX full-size SUV plant. The plant is so busy it added a third shift, then the occasional Saturday, then this week announced it would go to a six-day work week. This seems to imply that GM is selling Tahoes, Escalades, Suburbans, and Yukons all over the U.S. in ever increasing numbers. As our sharp-eyed forum member SnakeEyes pointed out after our story on the Arlington Plant last night, that is not the case. As a matter of fact, the big SUVs are way behind last year's sales figures here in the U.S. market.

  19. What percent of Colorados will be sold with Duramax? Go On The Record

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    8/3/2015
Among the mid-size pickup fan community there is perhaps no topic more passionately discussed than the current lack of a diesel offering. Both the folks at the Tacoma sites and everyone who is a fan of the GM trucks are clamoring for a diesel truck. Last week GM officially announced that the Duramax is a go. The press release was intended to give the impression it is available for purchase, but actually that will most likely be November. Either way, the truck is no longer a "future product." Thus, we reached out to the GM communications people and asked them to tell us how many of the Colorado and Canyon will be built with the Duramax. Our guess is they won't say, but if they do we will report it post-haste.

  20. What Is The Small Frontal Overlap Test & Why Should I Care?

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    4/13/2016
Having covered Insurance Institute For Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests and other safety ratings for many years, I was one of the skeptics who viewed the small frontal overlap test as nothing more than a way for the group to reset its crash tests after every automaker began to get Good Scores across the board on most tests. However, the data IIHS and other groups, such as Volvo, presented started to make me wonder if there was more to the situation. IIHS and others looked at frontal crashes closely and discovered that about a quarter of frontal crashes that involved serious injury or death were of the small frontal overlap type.

  21. What is as fast a BMW M4, but $30K less?

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    3/3/2016
Quick! What is just as fast a BMW M4, but costs about thirty grand less? Right, the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro 2SS. Motor Trend has a cool way of performance testing cars head to head. It does the usual instrument testing, 0-60 MPH and quarter mile and all that jazz, but then it takes the cars to the track at Willow Springs and let's their pro driver, Randy Pobst, do some familiarization laps and then do a timed hot lap. You can read the Motor Trend article for yourself, but the upshot is that the Camaro 2SS is its match.

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    12/10/2015
A few years back doing a story on clean energy I was surprised to learn that Texas was the leader in North America in terms of wind power production. So I was not very surprised to learn that General Motors is planning to use wind-generated electricity to partly power its Arlington, TX plant. The Arlington plant, located in a suburb of Dallas, makes 'Burbans, Escalades, and Yukons.

Chevy trucks serve the oil and gas exploration industry in Alaska. Getting them there is a chore. The best way is to fly them in. The Colorado in this series of images had it tires swapped out so it could fit. Check out how tight the Chevy is in the cargo area.

  24. Watch Ram 1500 Fail Critical Crash Test

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    4/12/2016
Our recent story listed the results of all full-size pickup trucks tested by the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety. We focused on the positive results in our main story, but Ram had a very bad day of testing. The small frontal overlap test simulates a pickup truck hitting a telephone pole with the front corner of the vehicle. Small economy cars like the Prius can ace this test. So too can cars in the mid-size class and all crossovers have models that can score "Good" on this test. In fact, it is difficult to find any car or crossover that does not score Good on this test. Watch the Ram results.

This March 25th, the Team at Hennessey set out to break the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport Vitesse's top speed in a convertible record. At the hands of Brian Smith, director of the Ford Performance Racing School, the Venom GT Spyder recorded a time of 265.6 MPH. The speed run was confirmed by independent speed testing firm Racelogic. The incredible test was conducted at Naval Air Station Lemoore and witnessed by Commander Darren Fouts, Air Operations.
