  3. Scary Ford Truck/SUV/Mustang Recall- Three Crashes So Far

    Teaser Paragraph:

    4/27/2016

Ford announced today that is recalling about 202,000 model year '11-'12 Ford F-150, and 2012 Ford Expedition, Ford Mustang and Lincoln Navigator vehicles because the transmission can suddenly downshift into first gear. Ford says in its recall announcement, "Depending on the speed of the vehicle at the time of the downshift, the driver could experience an abrupt speed reduction that could cause the rear tires to slide or lock up. This condition could result in loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash." This is not just a theory, Ford admits that it is aware of three accidents that have reportedly been caused by this malfunction.

  4. GM Shuts Down 4 N. American Plants- Can't Get Japanese Parts

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    4/26/2016
General Motors is shutting down four plants in North America. The U.S. plants in Spring Hill, Tenn, Lordstown, Ohio, and Fairfax, Kan., as well as the Oshawa Plant in Canada. The reason is that General Motors cannot get parts critical to the vehicles manufactured there because they are made in Japan. A series of earthquakes hit the Japanese island of Kyushu earlier this month. Many news outlets reported on the effect that the earthquake would have on Japanese manufacturers like Toyota and Nissan. Few pointed out that General Motors relies on parts from Japanese suppliers for its North American-built vehicles.

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    4/25/2016
Late last week General Motors fiscal quarter-end numbers were released, and the General is raking in the profits from expensive, high-end trucks. Even though unit sales have started to level off or decline in the U.S. and China, GM's two strongest markets for sales, the company doubled its profits compared to the same quarter last year. GM's $1.95 million in profits for the quarter set a company record. This according to the Wall St. Journal. The climb in profits is credited to selling a higher percentage of pricey trucks and full-size SUVs.

  8. Cadillac XT5 Earns Spot Next to Lexus With New Rear View Mirror

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham

    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    4/18/2016
Let's be completely honest. The 2017 Cadillac XT5 has the Lexus RX squarely in its sights. The outgoing SRX was no slouch and has basically become the Cadillac brand as the company's sedan sales go down the drain. The new XT5 has just earned a spot on the same awards list as the 2016 Lexus RX. WardsAuto named the new XT5 to the 2016 Wards 10 Best Interiors list because its interior rocks. More specifically, the new five-passenger crossover has "first-rate materials." That wasn't the real tipping point, though. Rather, it was the cool rear-view camera integrated into the XT5's mirror.

  9. Who Needs Diesel? 2016 Cruze Gas Matches 2015 Diesel MPG

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    4/18/2016
The latest press release from Chevy touts the 2016 Chevy Cruze's new 42 MPG EPA estimated highway mileage. Lost in that release by Chevy is the fact that the new 2016 Chevy Cruze Limited Eco's combined fuel efficiency is the same 33 MPG that the former diesel Cruze rated. Both the 42 MPG highway and 33 MPG combined numbers are impressive. The Cruze also uses regular unleaded fuel, which saves at the pump.

Using warranty data, General motors has determined that the driver's side seatbelt cable on the 2014 and 2015 Silverado and Sierra may fail. GM says, "...the flexible steel cable that connects the seat belt to the vehicle can fatigue and separate over time as a result of the driver repeatedly bending the cable when entering the seat."

  12. What Is The Small Frontal Overlap Test & Why Should I Care?

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    4/13/2016
Having covered Insurance Institute For Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests and other safety ratings for many years, I was one of the skeptics who viewed the small frontal overlap test as nothing more than a way for the group to reset its crash tests after every automaker began to get Good Scores across the board on most tests. However, the data IIHS and other groups, such as Volvo, presented started to make me wonder if there was more to the situation. IIHS and others looked at frontal crashes closely and discovered that about a quarter of frontal crashes that involved serious injury or death were of the small frontal overlap type.

  13. Watch Ram 1500 Fail Critical Crash Test

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    4/12/2016
Our recent story listed the results of all full-size pickup trucks tested by the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety. We focused on the positive results in our main story, but Ram had a very bad day of testing. The small frontal overlap test simulates a pickup truck hitting a telephone pole with the front corner of the vehicle. Small economy cars like the Prius can ace this test. So too can cars in the mid-size class and all crossovers have models that can score "Good" on this test. In fact, it is difficult to find any car or crossover that does not score Good on this test. Watch the Ram results.

  14. Silverado and Sierra Can’t Match F-150 Crash Test Result

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    4/12/2016
The Insurance Institute For Highway Safety released the findings of large pickup truck crash testing today. The Ford F-150 was the only large truck to score “Good” on the important small frontal overlap test. This is the test that simulates hitting a telephone pole or tree with just the front corner of the truck. The Chevy Silverado scored only “Acceptable” in double cab trim, and “Marginal” in crew cab.

This week, well after April Fools Day, Callaway launched its new C7 Corvette AeroWagen Package. The shooting brake design is a two-door station wagon conversion of a modern Corvette. Callaway will do the conversion for any C7 Corvette Stingray or ZO6. The car will remain a two-seat vehicle and no four-door is planned. Callaway says the body additions will all be supplied in raw carbon fiber, so added weight should not be an issue.

  19. GM Sales Highlights For March 2016

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    4/4/2016
General Motors continues to take market share in the retail sector. March was a continuation of most of the same trends we have seen so far. Crossovers and trucks up (or at full capacity) and most of GM's cars down - way down. The Malibu is the happy exception. We don't know how many were sold to fleets, but does that even matter? A sale is a sale. The Malibu is now selling at a 22K per month rate. It is up 37% for the year.

It is going to have an unexpected and profound impact on EV sales for the coming two years and, and, if its launch goes as planned it is going to end the sedan as we know it by 2020.

General Motors has made it two in a row now. Both of the first trials brought to court have resulted in wins for GM. In this most recent win for GM a jury decided for the automaker in a New York case involving a 2014 accident that injured two. The prior case was tossed by the judge after the party that brought the case was found to be lying (in the eyes of the court).

  22. New IIHS Headlight Test May Shine Light On Sierra/Silverado 1 2

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    3/30/2016
One of GM-Trucks.com's top news posts was "Are the Headlights In Your '14 or '15 Sierra?" That story did about twice as well with pageviews and comments as our typical well-read stories. Readers filled our pages with comments about dim headlights in GM trucks. Until now, there has been no objective third-party testing to help buyers to judge the effectiveness of headlights in the cars and trucks we buy. That is changing. Today, the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety (IIHS) released its first-ever ratings for headlights. The Institute has a new Vehicle Test Center with an indoor test track ideal for conducting such tests. The tests are not subjective either. IIHS uses sensors that read the amount of visible light from both high and low beams in a variety of driving scenarios. The group gives extra credit for adaptive headlights (that swing side to side) and auto-high-beams, but only if those systems actually work well. The group also takes points away if a vehicle's headlights blind on-coming drivers in low-beam mode.

  23. Compacts and SUVs Highlight 2016 New York International Auto Show

    Teaser Paragraph:

    George Kennedy
    Contributor, GM-Trucks.com
    3/28/16

The New York International Auto Show plays a unique role in the auto show circuit. When compared to Geneva or Detroit auto shows, NYIAS is not as large and doesnt always have the big-ticket debuts. But for the American market, it is the last major auto show before the 2017 model year vehicles arrive in large numbers, and so it is the last show for automakers to finalize their lineups for the upcoming year. With that in mind, NYIAS is one of the most important shows of the year.
