  1. Well it’s taken a solid month but my sheet metal crew finally finished my custom skid plate. Made out of 24 gauge stainless steel, type 304. This design is meant to look just like the SDHQ skid plate and come in way under budget It’s made out of one piece of flat metal, bent and cut to fit. Weight about 10-20 lbs. Tow hooks cutouts and all, every edge has a hem on it. Got the truck up to about 95+ MPH and not one noise on the highway. Made 1 small mock-up, 1 test mock up out of 26 gauge galvanized metal, and then this final. I scrubbed it down last night with a metal brush, primed, and painted flat black. Blends in nicely. Best $100 I’ve ever spent. Beats the $500+ prices I’ve seen out there.

  3. I’ve seen a few 2017 and 2018 L5P’s come up for sale private party. They all have 7k - 10k miles. I know there will be some teething problems with an all new engine. Please post your good and bad experiences with the 2017+ L5P. Pics welcome!

  4. Alright so finally got a chance to make a post. Did some homework and took a risk on the exhaust. Corsa only has exhaust systems advertised for the 2500 up to 2014, but knowing that the frame and drivetrain was the frame the same I decided to try it out. It worked and sounds amazing! Sounds stock at Cruise and idle in the truck, but has a nice growl when you lay into it. Part number for the crew cab short bed is Corsa P 14790. I'll post a sound clip later.

  5. Hello everyone, I purchased a 2018 Sierra 1500 All Terrain X in Summit white on Saturday. I had to make the drive to Dallas as i could not find the truck anywhere in TX. I am coming from a Evo X and before that i had a Ford Lightning. Big adjustment to being in a truck again, but i am loving the space and the ride height already. Got a great deal on the 18' as well since the 19's are coming soon.

  6. cold start knock was very common on the GMT-800s. My 99 & 05 had it. With your millage, it is to definitely be expected. Probably had it since new like most of ours.

  8. I finally added some vent visors today. I have been going back and forth about whether I wanted them or not then I saw a set of the ones on the GMC accessories site installed on a truck at my local dealer. I liked the way they look better than some I have seen. To me they look smaller and do not stick out as much as some. Anyway so far I like them but I have not driven the truck since I installed them to see if they cause wind noise. I am going to let it sit for several days to let them seat and hopefully all will be good.

  11. Last I checked Bilstein says the shocks are for all 1500's except NHT. Not sure why though. Yes I trailered with the stock shocks before switching and the Bilsteins are a big improvement. No sway and less bucking. I mainly pull a 14' enclosed tool trailer so we're not talking crazy weight. Pulled a trailer type 40' lift but not sure how heavy it was.. But it was a chunk of metal for sure. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

  12. Which cover are you entering to win? K2XX Shortbed Tell us why the LOMAX cover is perfect for your truck? It appears very nice, almost flush - what I always look for on a topper. I want a topper that is practically invisible when installed. I also love that it has a easy removal feature for a full open bed! What features are most important to you when buying a tonneau cover, why? Being flush to the top, and durable. Minimal leaks. Does not consume space inside the bed (such as roll n lock box) Do you have a tonneau cover on your truck? If so, which cover is it? Why are you looking for a change? Yes, Revolver X2. I've had it for a bit over a year and I am having major issues with it. The vinyl on the top of the revolver is cracking. It leaks bad around the edges. The felt fabric inside the top has fell off and when I try to close the revolver, my fingers get pinched without the felt cover in place. I take great care of it, and it's failing me. I have been casually looking for a replacement and this looks like it fits the bill. What do you use your truck for? Basically everything. Work, pleasure, motorsports, outdoor recreation, etc. My current top - pic recently taken, would love to swap it out (see how the rubber on the edges are bumpy - that allows water intrusion, and see the first 2 lines are more obvious than the rest - that's cracked vinyl). This is the typical camping trip load, I need a better top to protect the contents.

  16. RPO codes have previously been on a sticker in the glove box, but for 2018 models they switched to a QR code on the door jamb you have to scan with your phone. OP has a 2017, so he should be able to find the sticker.

  17. Funny, I say the same thing about people saying the 2014/2015 lights were scary dangerous; some of y'all make it sound like they were powered candles... How did y'all even drive before 2000 with the old school headlights or gasp the sealed beam headlights, did y'all just take public transportation or stay in the house at night? Tyler

I have the fill valves routed next to the trailer hookup plug. Fill them up individually. I use this to fill them up: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012WHBSO

  19. After being on back order for awhile, I finally got my Rigid Ignites and installed them last week...... best upgrade to my truck so far! I found the 1.75” hole saw worked best to cut out the step and I managed to use the supplied stop nuts (although the top one is a PIA) to mount the lights with the help of a friend. I used a 14-16ga blue Posi-Tap into the white wire w/ the green stripe from the trailer harness for power. I did tie both positive wires from the lights together and then used a butt connector to extend the length with an 18ga wire because the wires coming from the right light didn’t have much slack. I then inserted the 18ga wire into the Posi-Tap and tightened the connector. I did the same with the ground wires, tied them together and extended the length with a butt connector and some 18ga wire with a ring terminal connected to the other end. Without doing this, I wouldn’t be able to reach the factory ground connection with wire from the right light. I then loosened he factory bolt attached to the ground on the frame (this was located just forward of the trailer harness) and attached the ring connector.

  21. I just completed an in-person tune with Justin from Black Bear Performance on my 2014 db cab 5.3 with 3.08 gears and 33 inch tires. It was 100 percent worth the 6 hour drive and cost of the tune. I had tuned an old 5.4 Ford with a handheld tuner and told myself I would never use a tuner on a gas truck again. After hearing all the recommendations from this site I gave BBP a try. I had the AFM shut off and speedometer calibrated for the larger tires. But the transmission tune is unbelievable. The truck now shifts perfect and feels lighter. A guy on this forum said it best that his gas pedal and transmission were finally working together. It used to lug around corners and hunt for gears. Now I actually enjoy driving the truck and make excuses to go to town. I would recommend BBP to anyone looking to increase their trucks performance or just make it more drivable. It should have been the first modification to the truck.

  24. I want to remember that it's not effective because the truck is insulated from the ground...you need an earth ground and a decent anode, which are lacking in these systems. 2012 2500hd 6.0l CCSB 4wd

  25. There's a few different ways to tell, but if it shows 8 when in manual selection then you have the 8 speed. Another more definitive way to find out is to check the RPO codes on the sticker on the inside of the upper glove box. MYC = 6 speed and M5U = 8 speed. Easiest way to verify would be to drive at a nice and even acceleration up to highway speed and count how may times it shifts. Also all 6.2's come with the 8 speed. In addition, you can ask your local dealer to provide you a build sheet that will show all options your truck with built with. This would be a nice way to see anything else you thought you had and didn't or didn't know you had. For what it's worth I have a 2017 that bought new last year and have had zero problems with the 8 speed. There's some on this forum who do, and I feel for them based off the stories they have to tell, but don't let that get in your head thinking you have a lemon. Just drive it normal, enjoy the new ride and have any problems fixed or at least documented before your warranty expires. Certainly not worth loosing any sleep over.

  33. Thank you! All I've done other than the blower is an Elite Engineering E2X catch can and a Black Bear tune for the ECM. I'll be swapping to a 2015 TCM so I can tune the 8-speed transmission and I'm planning on doing water-methanol injection. I really think I'm going to stop there with the engine because it's plenty and it's all too easy to go down the rabbit hole with performance mods (if you do this mod then you have to do this mod which means you really should do this mod...you know how it is). After the engine mods I'm going to do a rear sway bar (maybe a front too) and some Calvert Caltracs for my traction bars. And then that's IT!!! But I'll have to get some new tires too =) And to answer your questions about how everything is going to hold up. From what I've read, it's all going to hold up fine because what I've done is pretty conservative. It's low boost, no crazy cam, no headers, etc. KNOCK ON WOOD.

  34. I am completely satisfied with the HIDs in my 16. That being said I had an SLT premium plus as a loaner for a couple of weeks and the LED lights on it were killer! I personally prefer the looks of the running lights on the full LED headlights better, plus it would make your regular cab truck really stand out since the LED lights aren't an option on them. But the cost to upgrade isn't worth it, or at least I keep trying to convince myself that so I don't spend any more money.

  41. FIrst and most important Mod --- added a strip of thin foam on steering column under the key cylinder to prevent the keys and fob from making noise while banging against the column.... This was done mainly for sanity reasons... Why no true "keyless go" is beyond me, even cheap Ram Trucks have it.

  44. I find that each time I use my wipers, after putting the truck in the garage, I lift up the wiper blades and then put them back down. This keeps the rubber from taking a set as a result of the downstroke from when the wipers were shut off the last time. It allows the rubber to return back to a "center position". I find that they last longer that way. Im crazy like that.
