  1. I know I'm probably dating myself here, but I can't stand not having a CB in my vehicles. Offroading it's really a necessity, and on roadtrips it's great. Plus I like the NOAA weather for when I'm on the way to the fishing hole. Anyway- Here's my setup for my T1 as of now. I wanted a simple all in one unit this time around because the install was unobtrusive and reversible. I may go with a full size unit in the future but this Uniden CMX760 will work just fine. The CB "Brain" is hidden behind the panel on the center console. It's just a piece of plastic with some toolbox liner material glued to it, lol. It looks and feels good though! Ha! The antenna is a Firestick 3' ('Merica, Baby!) with a spring. I have a quick disconnect but it's not solid enough so the antenna constantly makes noise while moving. It's easy enough to just unscrew it with the spring though. Here are the pics! Post up yours too...

  4. I have always been a Ford F-150 guy. Yesterday I traded my 2016 F-150 XLt in for a Sierra SLT X31 Crew Cab. I love it. I looked to get a new truck and I couldn't go with Ford. I feel I got so much more with the SLT then I would have gotten with the Ford. And can I say it rides so much better!! I enjoy being a GM newbie

  6. I think part of your statement is absolutely correct, you mention top tier gas and the detergents that keep your fuel systems clean, agree 100%. That section of the fuel system - and the parts that are sprayed with fuel - will reap the benefits of that CONSTANT flow/treatment of gasoline. The constant exposure. So YES I believe, in fact I know that the additives will clean and do their job. That's the key, the additives in that fuel is a constant consistent application to the components they're designed to come into contact with. And they do their job. The upper end spary treatment that we buy in a can are NOT constant, if they were they would certainly do a good job. Yes. However instead due to direct injection, the spots that are not consistently being sprayed/treated with those additives, will not benefit from a five minute light application every 5,000-10,000 miles. It would have to be constant to prevent the buildup we all are trying to remove/prevent. Now the real question is...how is the design of the upper end of this motor...the PCV system, the blowby, everything? I have heard that there haven't been many complaints of backside valve carbon buildup with these engines. And I have heard the opposite as well. Oil has changed a bit too, it seems like manufacturers have obviously needed oil to do more in terms of low speed detonation prevention and oil cooking and turning into carbon on valves, so perhaps its improved? I don't know. And some people claim that direct injection has come a long way. Probably has. BMW and Audi certainly had their fair share of issues with carbon buildup misfires and check engine lights, but honestly I haven't heard much about those things from other manufacturers of late. Oil consumption and fuel dilution are the buzz words now...shorter drain intervals, leaking high pressure fuel pumps. Who knows, maybe the backside of the valves aren't really a big issue anymore...not sure.

  7. Unfortunately I agree with you 100%, however I do use something every 5-10k miles (and I should know better, I'm a tech). I know exactly how difficult it is to really remove carbon buildup. Even the videos of "proof" in cleaner comparisons in which they send a scope down in there and show before and after "results" isn't really proof (not that any of them show much in terms of results). Run any engine for a few minutes and a number of things/factors will indirectly effect carbon on piston heads or the back of valves (moisture, heat, fuel). You might get a little "clean" spot or section and five minutes later the surface is prepped to add more soot and carbon...then it's covered again. I'm planning on sending a scope down my intake in a few weeks - figure it's been long enough since I've owned the vehicle and installed a catch can - I have 28,000 miles on it...if it's clean then maybe, just maybe I can say the catch can and cleaner solutions I've run did a little something. Truthfully we do this stuff because it makes us feel good, we feel like we're at least trying to help the situation...we believe, we buy the products. It's more mental than anything.

  8. Mainly for the SSB operation. Legal 12 watts output. (AM hits right about a metered 5) The Uniden also has a reputation for very little frequency drift compared to the other SSB radios out there. Only complaint is that the factory microphone is a little anemic and you'll probably want to swap it out. 4-6 pin adapter is included in the box. Personal bias, I also prefer the way the controls are set up. Fairly easy to find controls by touch when you need to keep your eyes on the road.

  9. Friday I used my truck to help setup for ladies day at my range moving our picnic tables around on one of the trailers. Surprisingly I did well at backing the trailer up, especially considering the dually fenders hid the trailer and the reverse camera was fairly useless. Saturday did the same thing except the opposite, moved things back after lady's day was finished. Also took a bed load down to the range's storage unit. The picture is what I received when I asked Michelin for an inflation table for their Defender LT tires. Figured I'd post it in case anyone else was having trouble finding a chart on them. I wanted to see if maybe I was messing up the tires by being under inflated but running duals at 55 psi their carrying capacity would be over the gross for the axle according to the door sticker. So running 60 psi and only having 900-1300 lbs of wheel weights in the truck shouldn't do crap to the tires.

  17. Last year I traded my ZO6 for a slightly used 2017 Tahoe Premier. All I can say a year later is that it was a great move. The two Vettes I had were fun for the 16 years I owned them but in Canada were a Vette is about a 5 months of the year driver it did not make sense anymore. My wife and I went to Mesa, Az. this winter with the Tahoe and loved it. Great highway cruiser. And believe it or not the best mileage of all the trucks I have driven to AZ. Averaged over the whole trip, about 20mpg.

  18. We just picked up a ‘19 Denali XL today to replace our 16. We went absolutely identical in as many ways as we could. The ultimate package wheels are a little different and the grille is different, but hopefully people won’t notice we’ve changed...(The old one had 120,000 miles, so we thought it was about time). Honestly, we would have considered a Navigator were it not for the eco boost and the high price. The Expedition is ugly and has that motor again. The Suburban didn’t offer anything different, so really that was all we saw as options... If we weren’t so used to the excellent size of the XL we would maybe go down the European route. My side of the family have Porsche and Audi SUVs and love them, but they don’t have much space at all! As a curveball we actually looked at a ‘19 Ram Powerwagon with a topper, but it was a little too tall for my 4’10” wife to lift our 1yr old lol! Side note. Our Yukon developed a 6” crack in the windshield about five miles from the dealership, so I guess she gets to go back tomorrow [emoji1750][emoji3603] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  19. Chevy has a tech bulletin on this, replace with locking gas cap 84308352 but I like the 2-1/4" rubber cap Ideal you find by searching chevy capless system dust cover But just think how much time you will loose each week by not having a capless system. LOL

  24. I ran that in the WS6 and noticed the next time I pulled the manifold how good the ports looked. I ran the same fuel from the same station and that was the only change was running that 1-2x per year through a full tank.

  25. I'd probably be on the same page if it could only stop and start when I was going to be sitting for that long. But there's no way for it to know if it's going to be a long-winded light where I'm sitting for 90 seconds, or a stop sign where I'm sitting for 3 seconds. Not that I've done a detailed study, but in the few times I've left it enabled, I bet I've averaged about 10 seconds or less of idle saved per stop/start cycle, which just doesn't seem anywhere close to worth it for me.

  26. I dislike some of the small conveniences that it does not have compared to my prior ride, Jeep Grand Cherokee Only drivers window is auto up?? Heated seats and steering wheel do not come on automatically when cold out. Tailgate does not lock with the electric locks or the key fob There is still an ignition key Cannot unlock or lock doors without touching the key fob. Otherwise I love my truck!

  27. It's more of leaf squeak; I hear them flex. I absolutely LOVE the 4.10 gears and yes I have the 5.3L with 6 speed -- before I put the gears in (had the lift done with 35's) she was getting 12mpg everywhere, even on highway and was just a plain dog when trying to get out of the way. When I installed the 4.10's it was like I was back in my stock height truck. She gets 15mpg all the time and can get up to 18mpg if I'm on highway for long distance. She has plenty of power when I need to get out of the way. All in all, I enjoy it. I did it because I plan to keep truck long term and I wanted the transmission to be as efficient as possible. if I had the 8 speed and the money I would probably do it anyways. I know there's 2 more gears in there but I would be worried about hit on transmission. It's why I ripped out the RC lift and got something better -- everything I do is for long term. Wife said I can't get another truck for 10 years LOL.

  28. newdude covers this spot on. Depends not just on Z71 trim, but wheel size, etc. My RST Z71 with 20"s came with the Wrangler A/T. Most of the RSTs with 20"s I've seen on lots, however, have the Dueller. Who knows how GM decides which one gets which. I'm already looking forward to replacing them with Michelin LTX M/S2's, to be honest. Can't beat that tire, and probably has just as good of "off road" performance as the Wrangler ATs does. At least for the amount of "off-roading" I do... which is next to none. Lol

  29. I get reminded from time to time that any experience I have in the refining field is useless because I'm old and as outdated as any information I may have known at one time. That and people just don't like engineering types. This means to those individuals so inclined nothing one has to say that stands outside their personal and individual current experience or education will ever convince anyone of anything. That is considered a rational method of filtering information. If I disagree will it matter? Likely not. How about if I just agree? Doublebase I agree with. Will that add weight to his statements? How about some common sense? DI cleaners do??????? They clean injectors just like any other injection method cleaner. They clean the softer gums and varnish from the working side of the injector. (back and interior) That is IF there are any there. Even if a fuel is not top tier, a buzzword, if it is fresh and the turn over is quick enough there is nothing to clean. Inside the combustion chamber, that space MUST reach a carbon neutral balance and it will if it's left to it's business. Anyone who has actually opened up a carbureted motor or a port injection motor with over a 100K on the clock knows what a poor argument it is that gas detergents will keep the valves spotless. Especially if those inspected motors are of the post EGR era. We may have lost the pumps but VVT now does the same job passively. Seriously, when is the last time anyone did a routine 5K mile heads off decoking? The sky is not falling and Doublebase is on the money. Listen to him.

  30. Are you saying you already have a yellow gas cap? If so then you already have a flex fuel vehicle and don't need to do anything. If you want to get more out of using E85 then a tune for it will improve performance.

  33. I have a set. They stay in fine. The Ones I got have little felt strips on the corners of the part that inserts, so they wedge in pretty tightly. I have no tonneau right now either so they’d be free to fly if they were gonna and I do a lot of highway miles. My problem was I got them before I realized those were hand grabs to use with the bumper steps. Haha To get them out actually takes a second since you have to pry them up. But it’s not that hard and I just throw them in the underseat bin when they’re off. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  44. You’ll spend anywhere from 200 bucks to the sky is the limit (5k+) on this. I would suggest going and finding a twin to your truck in non Z71 form on a lot somewhere and test drive it with your girl and see what you guys think. Swapping the Ranchos is plenty easy and finding a set of new(er) take offs locally shouldn’t be a problem. Mines a 1/2 ton but I sold my factory loaded (loaded means with the springs) black struts/shocks with 3k miles on Craigslist for $150 when I swapped to my Pro Comp set up. In your case DO NOT BUY the Pro Comps she won’t like them for sure ?. I would guess a set of 3/4 ton take off shocks for all four corners would run you about the same? The Pro Comps where 600ish I’ll be doing Kings next on this truck and I’ll have well over 3g in this set up in parts alone just to give you an idea on prices. If if you do a coil over set up your not going to be adjusting them on the fly. Some companies like King do offer ones (upcharge of course) that have a dial on them you can turn by hand to adjust them. Otherwise you have to adjust them with a spanner wrench that comes with them but then your also adjusting the height so not really what you’re after. If you want to do adjustable air on all 4 corners your talking major bucks for a system worth a crap IMO. I did level “tuned” Blisteins on my 01 2500HD when I did new Congnito keys to level it and H2 wheels/new 10 ply tires. I did A TON of research before doing this cause I didn’t want a sh!t ride and IMO it rides nicer now than it did stock with the factory AC Delcos with 50k on them and crap Nittos. But it definitely ain’t nowhere as nice as my 1/2 ton was on the OEs but about the same as the Pro Comps maybe slightly better. So might be worth check those out in your case also. Check these guys out they have some good info on ride quality that might help explain some of this stuff you have questions about. http://www.filthymotorsports.com/default.asp
