I have been trying to keep track of my mileage each time I fill up. I posted my towing mileage a few weeks back and thought I would post my hand calculated mileage for non towing, everyday driving along with what my computer reads. Everytime I fill up I set the pump to fill then when it shuts off I wait 30 seconds and let it run again until it shuts off. I then take a picture of the gallons on the pump and my trip odometer for that tank. I then reset my trip for the next tank. I commute to work M-F and then drive the family around on weekends. My commute is approximately 30 miles one way and I drive a mix of highway/back roads and in the city. For those who are curious on what you might expect if you purchase a GMC with the 3.0 diesel here are the results. I kept track of 4224.7 miles of general driving with my truck. I used 170.203 gallons of fuel. My hand calculated mileage was 24.82 and the trucks computer read 23.69 MPG. I have about 8200 miles on my truck as of today. Attached is the spreadsheet with all the details. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk3 points

He literally is ridiculing people for not needing the longer bed and having a crew cab. People are responding harshly to him because he was being an ass about it and pulling the whole "not a real man" crap because people need room for their family and/or only need the short bed. I dont think anyone was attacking him for needing the double cab with longer bed, just saying that a lot of people dont need that. He just ignores it and tells people they are stupid. Hopefully just a troll. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk3 points

Does anybody actually care if someone else buys a DC or CC with their own money? I surely do not GAF. I buy what I want with my money and if you don't like it, I don't care. GM trucks all have their "wish (fill in the blank) was better/available" items, but overall, I'm so blessed to be able to buy a new GM truck, and very pleased that they pushed my schedule up due to the COVID-19 sales on the 2020's. Can't beat those prices. My first truck I ever bought was a used 76 GMC single cab with the camper hauler special package which was a 2WD with 3/4 ton rear end and suspension stuff under it out back with dual fuel tanks along with a 454/TH400 which needed those dual tanks. Has ps/pb, limited slip rear end, tilt wheel and A/C and even cruise control. That's about it. The 454 died so I put a 502 crate motor in it and woke its butt right on up. But that was yesteryear. Today's new trucks have something for everyone. If you like DC, great, go buy one if you can. If you like CC, go get one. Why fight with each other. If you want to do that, go buy a RAM or god-forbid, a FORD. Then it's fight-worthy. Those trucks are needed to keep GM going to try and one-up them. Without that competition, GM trucks would suck worse than you think they already do. I am looking forward to the new dashboards whenever they come along. Although I got a sneaky suspicion they're still going to find a way to put something we all won't like on it. Hope they prove me wrong.2 points

Yesterday I decided to wash her with Meguiars Ultimate Wash and wax, air dry her, then Meguiars Ultimate detailer spay. I took off my wheels and slapped on Bogart's "Terminator Special" D-10s on. Before doing so, I gave the inner fender wells some needed attention by using some degreaser, scrubbing, rinsing off, drying, and then applying Chemical Guys Barebones on to bring out the shine.2 points

So, from that article, it's unclear if/what the problem is, as those labs could be: -reporting all/virtually all results as positive (as in, with a whole bunch of false-positives) -only reporting positives, and not reporting negative results (so, the "regular"/expected number of false-positives for whatever method of testing they use, just the positivity rate stat looks bad). Given that the state is run by a guy who wants to have Trump's babies, and would be all over it if those labs were reporting huge numbers of false positives (nevermind doctors who are depending on those labs for testing), it probably is more likely the second. Or are we supposed to ignore the fact that a whole bunch of Florida's hospitals & icu units are full up with covid patients. Or it's just a coincidence...2 points

Finally after 3 weeks of waiting on parts I got my 6inch Fabtech installed. Bought the Opt7 grille kit and installed it directly behind the Chevrolet letters. I’m working on fabricating a close out panel to mount behind the letters to block the light from shining into the entire grille so that only the letters light up. If anyone is looking for a great lighting kit then get the opt7. I can turn the lights on from as far away as in my house with the remote and the quality is ten times better than the other China made crap sold on Amazon.2 points

I had to laugh when I saw Chicago put Wisconsin on their “watch list”...we should have closed our border with Illinois three months ago when they were bringing the virus up here to enjoy freedom from their oppressive lockdown state. The sunbelt states should have blocked all the vacationers from NY too. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/07/14/cdc-chief-says-northerners-heading-south-for-vacation-may-be-to-blame-for-surge-in-coronavirus-cases-not-state-reopenings.html They fled their own lockdowns to greener pastures, and now want to lock us out of their unfree places...as if anyone wants to go to their shithole crime ridden areas anyway. All the while media tells us to look to NY as the role model. Simply because they killed off the weak early, and are much further into the natural course this virus is going to run everywhere, no matter what. Give me a break.1 point

I've got the Pedal Commander, Can't compare to anything else as I've never used another one. I have installed 4 others since I've gotten mine and no one else besides me threw a code and after reading the actual directions (I know, go figure) I've thrown no codes and i'm very pleased with how well it works.1 point

Being from the "farm" my reasoning on how about procuring quality oil is as such. 1. Bottle Color? 2. Price? 3. Is this really the lowest price? 4. A passive flush, which uses the transmission's own pump to do the flushing is very safe & is no different than normal vehicle operation. When flushed using an external machine- that can sometimes cause problems.1 point

Your good bud... I also have been tossing around some different ideas also but cant really find something that I want to pull the trigger on. I'm somewhat familiar with front end swaps as I did one on my 2003 Tahoe. I installed the Silverado front clip on my tahoe to be different.1 point

Yah that number is dry with no propane tanks, batteries, or weight distribution hitch added. Jump on the scales fully loaded with and without the trailer1 point

Your tongue weight should be 10-12% of your trailer weight to tow safely. Where are you getting 835 and 8800 from, is that from the sticker on the trailer, or did you actually weigh it? With your payload being 15xx lbs I'm guessing you have a 4wd crew cab standard bed. This is a crew cab short bed with the max trailering package, payload would be lower if the truck was a standard bed. To get 2200lb payload it would have to be a double cab 2wd I believe1 point

World hit 13 million, adding a million in under 5 days. Acceleration is stiff at 2700 cases per day/day. That is just below the all time high of around 3000 cases day/day after settling to near zero when it was thought under control. USA deaths over 135K...so far. 1918 H1N1, a novel virus in it's time, killed 675,000 just in the USA when no one knew anything about it. Like now 2009 H1N1 no longer novel kills 12,500 in the USA. https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/1918-commemoration/pdfs/1918-pandemic-webinar.pdf The range of flu deaths in the USA has run 12K to 56K over the last 10 years. This ain't that. You can hide the facts but you can't hide the bodies.1 point

No you can not get the sticker changed, it is connected to your VIN when it is assembled at the factory. Honestly you bought too heavy of a trailer man, if you're 8800 loaded, I can guarantee your tongue weight is ~1000 lbs. The max trailering package only increases your payload by 100 lbs anyways. Put your setup on the scales and make sure you aren't overloading your rear axle. Correction: NHT increases GVWR by 100 lbs1 point

He's been around awhile. He relies on a term he calls film strength. Tests using a device of his own making that he is unwilling to fully explain. I've used the term myself but it's not really an accurate term in definition. He's in engineer and should know better. Oil film doesn't have strength it has thickness. Thickness is determined by several factors. Most tests of this "type" use a SET load and determine effectiveness by either measurement of the resulting scar or by difference in weight of the test sample. He seems to use a variable load to reach a certain amount of wear. Same test done backwards. That's fine. These test the EP additives effectiveness when the film thickness falls below the asperity height (roughness height). As an engineer he should be familiar with the Stribeck curve and what determines film thickness which is not the sole property of viscosity. Such is the problem with these test. They comment on what happens AFTER film failure. He's testing off the shelf oils, not the bases pre-additive, and attempting to extrapolate backwards. His work has some value but a box of salt is needed and the ability to ignore his bravado. It is true that some parts of the motor operate in the boundary regime where the EP package is called on; rings to cylinder wall comes to mind. This is were a bit of smoke and mirror is used. He segregates these test by dividing by fifths (I believe) the tested range encompasses 100% of all samples. What he does not do is define the requirement. In rough back of the napkin calculations his worst group far exceeds any normal motors operation for that test. Some perspective. I have a recipe that requires orange juice so I need to know how many oranges to buy. I find a fellow that has tested ten varieties of oranges and test them all for juice volume and ranks them from 1 to 10 based on the results of the squeeze. I find out that the range is 4 ounces to 2 ounces. Thing is my recipe only requires 1 once of juice. Hardly matters, volume wise, which one I choose.1 point

The 1500 front has less opening for air flow than the HD. If this is for your Duramax, the bumper swap will block off the trans cooler as well. Don't think you want to overheat your Duramax, would you?1 point

As reported locally here in Houston. There’re is an uptick in hospitalization with covid. Hospitals like most businesses survive on clients. Rescheduling missed procedures because of covid put hospitals near capacity. It didn’t take much to reach the limit. The latest mandates should relax the uptick in a short period of time. This is new. Adjustments are being made hysteria helps no one. The shut down didn’t work. It delayed the the infection, that’s all. Like wearing a coat in the winter, sunscreen in the summer. We need to learn to live with this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Sanding and sanding and then painting. Here they are after the clear has dried. Now I have to color sand and buff them smooth. The color seems to be spot on, and no discernable seams. Also seems I was able to match the color. Not done yet, but I'll come back tomorrow and hopefully I can get them installed after color sand/buffing and then post up. How dare you threaten my Xmas. Lol. The vast majority of these deaths were from nursing homes. As of lately there’s been days without positives and those deaths came more towards the beginnings the pandemic. I love that article about the 30 yr old and that heart tugging quote. I spent the last month driving back and forth on a 6 hour run between my new and old houses. Put a lot of miles on 'er and got to actually use 'er as a truck hauling everything that would fit across 3 states. Held up like a dream the whole time. Now that I'm settled in, I did my first oil change since buying the truck and gave it the full Amsoil treatment: fresh oil, fresh filter, engine flush, and fuel treatment. Installed a Fumoto valve too while I had everything open. Full details in my build thread. The biggest reward though, is I now live in a state that doesn't require front license plates. Freedom! I really love how much removing the bracket changed the look of the truck, even if it was a pain to remove. Full details in my build thread.1 point

Okay y'all. Despite not hearing back from @mracer I went ahead and bought the Koni STR.T LT shocks for my truck. All four corners. I hope to get some free time today to put the fronts on, but did the rears last week since they only took about 5 minutes. I've driven a couple hundred miles since then. ALSO PLEASE NOTE: My truck has 76,000 miles on it. But I already had Bilstein 5100s on the rear. Fronts are the stock factory units. There are hardly ANY reviews out there on this new line of Koni's. In fact, they've never played in the truck space because it's dominated by a handful of competitors. Koni has a generally good reputation in motorsports though. Lots and lots of great experience out there and that was a big guiding factor. Also, these statements from Koni carried a lot of weight: "One of the key reasons why we chose twin tubes for the LT STR.T is that they generally have better ride quality on imperfect road surfaces when compared to mono-tubes which can tend to provide a more harsh ride quality over impacts, kind of like reading the road surface in braille and transmitting it to the cabin. That is a bit of an umbrella statement because it is still very dependent on the actual piston valving technology inside the shocks regardless of monotubes vs. twin tube and gas pressure but all else being equal, higher gas pressures do kick back more of the road feel.” “Pickup trucks are particularly challenging because they are over sprung especially in the rear for usually 95% of standard usage when they are unloaded but they need a lot more control for the limited time when the bed is loaded or they have trailering tongue weight on them. They have a basically 2 dimensional frame with the cab and bed as two separate parts which make them easier to flex in the middle than a one piece body car or van. A good twin tube can help isolate that and that is the goal of LT STR.T. It is never going to ride like Grandpa’s Cadillac but it will take some of the edge off.” Observations: *Build quality isn't as nice as Bilstein. *The orange color isn't THAT offensive. Though a zinc coated 5100 piston mounted downward is a much better look. *Before installing I did the ole trusty "push" test. They compressed very easily. In the past I would've been concerned about that. Now that I understand shock damping (a little) I realize that test means next to nothing. - the Bilsteins by comparison are much harder to compress. Ride Quality: Dramatically different. It feels like I did something much more substantial than just a shock swap. It feels like I put a set of Deavers on. (have them on my NBS Silverado) With the Bilsteins I was a little disappointed. They were just too stiff. In my mind, I didn't attribute it to the Bilsteins themselves. I thought it was the spring rate! But I removed the Bilsteins the morning my Koni's were supposed to arrive. Later in the day I climbed into the bed to gather up some ratchet straps forgetting that I removed the shocks. What I noticed is how easily the rear end bounces up and down. It took hardly any weight to cause it sag. I could push on the tailgate and get quite a bit of motion with little effort. With the Bilsteins it was almost rock solid. Rear end felt really stiff. I realize some people like that. Some people tow or haul a lot or just like a stiff truck for bragging rights. I don't do any of that on a regular basis and would much prefer a softer riding truck to capability. Do the Koni's feel TOO soft? Nope. Not one bit. What they do is the let the rear suspension move! I actually have suspension travel now. There's a section of IH-10 I travel regularly that's under construction and it's like whoops in the desert. It's handles these beautifully! Chopped up roads and broken pavement are also much improved. I'm rolling on 275/55R20 Michelin Defenders so I still have quite a bit of road feel. But all the little bumps and breaks in the road feel much better. I haven't even done the front yet! I'll report back once I do. But I imagine that I'll be even more impressed.1 point

$190 MSRP but I got mine during a big promo sale they had on just the LightShield hood protectors a few weeks ago. I think I ended up paying $115 during the sale. https://www.autoventshade.com/avs-753123-aeroskin-lightshield-hood-protector It is super easy to wire up but I went a different route. They supply 2 screw style wire taps for wiring into your parking lights and a ground wire. I actually used an add-a-fuse right in the fuse box underneath the hood. 28 and 29 are micro 15 amp fuses for the right and left parking lights, respectively. I forgot the add-a-circuits need both fuses so initially I only had the ambers and NO parking lamp, or a parking lamp and NO ambers.....stopped this morning for another micro 15 amp fuse and got it working as intended. For the ground I just grounded it to the vehicle chassis. They come on whenever the parking lamps come on so basically anytime my fogs come on with the 10-22 diode mod, the ambers also come on.1 point
