continue to throw around baseless words attempting to confuse everyone and paint the appearance that you know what your talking about. Hmm, this is how I have held jobs for decades, hope none of my current bosses are members of this site5 points

I learned the secret to a long life is keeping my mouth shut (I don't plan on living very long, lol). There's an old Chinese proverb that goes something like, "A fool speaks because they want to say something. A wise person speaks because they have something to say." Furthermore, Albert Einstein said, "If you can't simply explain it, you simply don't understand it." Your posts are long and frequent. I'll let you continue to make yourself look bad. Remember, Grumpy put me on his ignore list so he won't see this message.3 points

Drivers side heated seat quit working on me this fall. Thought maybe the detail shop might have pulled a wire loose or something but after checking it over everything was still plugged in. So of course I was thinking, "great, some module has went bad or I have a broken wire in the harness." After doing some checking, I found out my passenger side still worked, bother switches still illuminated, and I had power to the heated seat terminals. Figured it had to be the pads in the seats themselves, so I ordered some replacements online for ~$150 and blocked out all of Saturday to get it replaced. I was shocked when it only took me and my father 1.5 hours start to finish to replace them. Super easy job, I recommend using a heat gun on the old pads to loosen the glue up on the foam and they will peel right off. Sure enough the element was burnt and broken.3 points

I'm a simple man. I don't need to know the chemical make up of what's in my catch can. I like that it isn't going into the engine. Works for me. Sometimes the ego's and analytical minds cause a thread to get more complicated than necessary IMO.3 points

He’s what you call a key board warrior. He’s blocked me, even though I agree with him most times. I understood what you were talking about condensation. In Texas it effects everything. You can start your vehicle in the morning and think you’re head gasket is blown. I have a dehumidifier in the garage where my wife’s Acura is. I’m not as (smart) as grumpy I got you.3 points

Maybe try explaining why the EGR valve has to exist for the exhaust to recirculate? Or more to the point, why we need or don't need a Catch Can?2 points

That is not exhaust though. It literally states that it is leaving inert gas inside the cylinder, it is not RECIRCULATING the gas. You are correct that VVT does the EGR job but it is not EGR. Sorry that's the truth, VVT and EGR just are not the same thing. VVT does a similar job as EGR but it is much different in how it acts and works. Exhaust gases aren't ever leaving the chamber. If the exhaust gases never leave they never recirculate now do they? Exhaust Gas Recirculation means it goes through the whole system again. Don't see how that is a hard concept. And if you are going to use Gangly as a perfect descriptor don't cherry pick his words. Literally says "There is no EGR" in the first line. You are just looking for arguments at this point to save face. Pretty lame2 points
-
Actually they are and Gangly defined it perfectly. Ya' ll are hung up on the equipment used to DO the work and the words EGR ARE the work. Does it matter if the exhaust gasses are "pumped' back in (old system) or if they are "sucked back it" by manipulation of the exhaust event/ (new system) Not really. Both systems use spent and expelled exhaust gasses to 'dilute' the fresh charge...you know the rest. What does EGR mean kids? Exhaust Gas Recirculation. Pause, take a breath. No where in the descriptor is the method to execute or equipment defined. ANY thing that brings spent gas BACK to the cylinder is EGR. Key word RECIRCULATION. https://www.underhoodservice.com/the-ins-and-outs-of-variable-valve-timing-vvt-systems-and-their-role-in-vehicle-emissions/ EGR & Variable Valve Timing One item that’s going the way of the smog pump is the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve. The elimination of the EGR valve is the result of the VVT’s ability to control gases entering and exiting the combustion chamber. EGR systems are designed to reduce smog-causing nitrous oxides (NOx) by recirculating a portion of the exhaust gases from each cylinder of the engine back into the intake manifold. This process lowers the combustion temperature to under 2,500° F, above which NOx gases are formed, hurting both the environment and a vehicle’s performance. EGR systems work, but they are not able to react fast enough or precise enough for modern engines and emissions standards. Modern variable valve timing systems are doing the same job as the EGV valve, only better. A VVT system is able to control the timing of the exhaust valve so that the right amount of inert exhaust gases remain in the combustion chamber for the next combustion cycle. This controls combustion temperatures and the production of NOx. If you encounter a vehicle that has higher than normal NOx levels, or a burnt or damaged pre-catalyst, make sure the VVT solenoid and exhaust camshaft position sensor are operating properly.2 points

There is no EGR system on these trucks but as mentioned earlier the VVT, ignition mapping, and fuel mapping tables work in an integrated manner to provide the same end result; cooler cylinder temperatures inhibiting the production of NOx. The VVT system allows the exhaust valve to stay open longer through the pistons up stroke, resulting in a slight suction on the exhuast side of the cylinder that sucks the products of combustion(exhaust) back into the cylinder, resulting in the displacement of a small amount of combustible gases with that of a small amount of mostly combusted byproducts from the prior combustion cycle. This creates a less than ideal stoichiometric ratio resulting in a less than ideal combustion, ie lower cylinder temperatures. Lowering temperatures in the cylinder can also be done by the fuel system creating a too rich environment, or through adjusting the timing of ignition. Through the combination of those three systems, GM can significantly alter emissions without the use of a recirculatory system that routes spent exhaust gases back into the intake tract. So technically there is no EGR since there is no "Recirculating" event taking place and exhaust gases are not being routed back to the intake tract. However, the VVT, fuel mapping tables, and ignition tables act congruently to bring about the same end result as the antiquated EGR systems: lower cylinder temperatures and lower NOx emissions.2 points
-
Your getting a little nit-picky here. With the engine off, the only "gate keeper" separating the intake tract from ambient air is a fibrous air filter intentionally designed for the allowance of air to pass through. The air filter does not exclusively segregate moisture from the air and therefore the air filter is not acting as a moisture check valve. We're starting to split hairs and egos are diluting what could be a good knowledge base for others. Fortunately though, great side-bar information is being tossed around here so hopefully this topic doesn't go off the rails.2 points

3 reasons not to use the " can " is that #1 EGR system on all our engines is RECIRCULATING that crap in the engine before the "can" captures it. #2 masking underlying issues including design issues. #3 changing crankcase venting pressures out of design spec. GC mass spec and other MS testing can be done but at my particular OEM we used Thermogravimetric testing and then divided out individual species and used FTIR analyses to fully ID. In a service I used to offer I called TUNER oil analysis I would test these ( see attached )for $62 and you can tell accurately what your combustion dynamic IS in near real time before analyzers and MIL codes set. My chiffon is melting reading this thread......meda meda2 points

I ordered everything today. Viofo 129 Pro Duo 4K dash cam with rear camera. Comes with hardwire kit. Read tons of reviews before I pulled the trigger https://www.ebay.com/itm/Viofo-A129-Pro-DUO-4K-Dual-Channel-Dash-Camera-Hardwire-Kit-CPL-Bundle-/255166711652?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0 I also ordered a 256gb card . Biggest that it would take. I think that's about 12 hours continous . Not sure though. Then I got a cheap backup cam that I'm going to make live all the time and mount it on my front license plate. Mount the monitor next the rearview mirror opposite my dash cam. That will make parking easier since my hood is almost 6 ft high. It seems like Im really close to something until i get out and look and im five feet away https://www.ebay.com/itm/4-3-Monitor-Wireless-Car-Night-Vision-Backup-Rear-View-Camera-Parking-System-/384575114949?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0 There's going to be a lot going on in my truck now.2 points

have been running premium per recommendations for the engine since day 1. runs great. I figure if I was worried about the cost of fuel I should have bought something else.2 points

I agree with everything you said.. Except it's not egr, GM has not specd an egr system on LT based engines. As you stated , and as gm states; it's vvt.1 point

Yeah that's great. That entire article does not apply to our trucks. Go find the exhaust valve on your truck. Call the dealer and ask them. It does not exist, I know what an EGR is and does. I had one on my truck and deleted it. They quit putting them on the gas trucks in 031 point

Yeah I have been leaning towards cleaning off the bottom of the running boards and mounting them there. Get some heavy duty solvent because I don't know if rubbing alcohol will take off the road tar and crap that's stuck underneath them. I also have a box of the "3M Adhesive Promoter" to use and try to get them to stick even better.1 point

Because you will not have any issues using it and GM can't tell it isn't dexron VI by looking at it or doing a used oil analysis on it. It exceeds the specification and GM would have to show it caused the issue. Also AMSOIL covers their products with their own warranty. If a used oil analysis came back from a third party lab showing that the fluid was out of specification, AMSOIL would cover the repair. It seems all of the issues that GM is having on their transmission is cause by tuning and faulty parts. At least that is how I read into all the threads that come up it seems daily on transmission issues. ie, they replaced my torque converter, they replaced my valve body, they updated my transmission with the latest updates, they changed out to the new Mobil 1 fluid (which makes one wonder why they chose a fluid that wasn't up to spec and had to reformulate in the firsts place)1 point

86774933 is the GM part number, list price is $103 but I'm sure you can get it for less at a dealer or online.1 point

Yeah I am not sure. I know for a fact that it is possible as I have seen some custom ones I just don't know how to do it and I can't find where it is now1 point

I have no idea what your talking about. You obviously know what your talking about but I don't think you've actually visually looked at what GM has done here. On paper, or hands on it doesn't matter. Once you see how simple it is, it will make sense.1 point

That's interesting. we haven't received anything from GM yet . Should we even? We have Four 2.7s in our fleet all of them 2020;s1 point

It says its $77 off who knows. Prices on everything are all over the map. Why did they charge me 250 to ship my center console? But free shipping on a underseat storage unit. The supply chain bs is getting old too.1 point

Please educate me on what a "fuel pipe' is and includes that you are referring to and why it should be replaced on a lifter repair. I am not a "motor head" is why I am asking. I have a 2021 5.3L that has 5,100 on it so far. It has been flawless so far but would like to be educated/prepared in case needed.1 point

Venting to atmosphere on modern engines is 1 way check and while it can vent as long as vent valves are not stuck open, damaged, modified, ingesting atmospheric water vapor will be nil, by design. Modified or race applications etc i.e. not closed vent system then all bets off and I agree with you. One reason in World of Outlaws and other racing with hygroscopic fuels contamination of engine oils and venting systems we capped headers for transport. Methanol fuels absorb ambient water vapor. So in the end atmospheric condensation not a player after ~ 2000F+ degrees at combustion chamber...... in modern system.1 point

Sounds like you may need an alignment. Also, the owners manual tells you the AWB setting shouldn't be used full time. It's meant for when the road condition could be slippery are loose.1 point

Regardless of who is right or wrong I just put a UPR catch can on my new '21 Denali 5.3L while I am spending coins on a new ride. It was a plug n play model and has a drain valve on the bottom of the can for easy drains. I also installed a controversial FilterMag on my oil filter to catch any ferrous metal sludge the filter is unable filter out. I can't see what the harm is in installing these two items. From what I have researched they make good sense to me to have and are easy to install/remove. The best part is they make me feel good and involved having installed them myself. The main reason I installed the catch can was because I drive short distances and don't keep the truck running long enough to evaporate any condensation collected. The truck is also not daily driven.1 point

There's that old saying "the cheapest vehicle is probably the one you already own", so I agree with the poster above me. I'd have it fixed, delete the DOD system while at it if you haven't yet. I guess the only other major factor is rust, if it's not too bad you can keep throwing parts at her for another 77k easy, but I see you're Canadian so worth mentioning eventual rust repair being a big factor in that consideration as well. Although I do see a lot of folks with perfectly clean frames leaving the platform once this issue is encountered, and I kinda feel stupid for jumping into it myself knowing full well, so I couldn't really blame you any way you go.1 point

I'm old school and at 11.5 to 1 premium is the only way to go. Yes the ECU can adjust but why make things work harder than they need to. Justin from Black Bear Performance highly suggest that you at least run 89. He sees a ton of GM 5.3 and 6.2 engines come in to be tuned and like posted above, you can't always hear it but destination is there and bad ju ju.1 point

I got an allocation from the dealership on wed. Been waiting a month or so on a list. Dealer called wed morning and said by end of day it would be placed. Pretty simple truck, 22 custom 2500hd crew 4x4 with gooseneck package. Just need it to haul my kids and our 5th wheel. First truck I’ve owned without clearance lights. Oh well things could be worse1 point

Thanks! Takes time man, but when it comes together it feels good. Done it all on my own so it’s been fun and learned things along the way. Good luck on your truck!1 point

One more thing I’ve realized… GM is now the only major brand whose most off-road worthy truck is still just a classic leaf spring suspension. That’s pretty odd. And dare I say… lame.1 point

Yeah, I was a little surprised they didn’t do anything about the front approach angle on the AT4X. And they didn’t give it 33’s. Very odd. They just gave it lockers and DSSV shocks. Then did the rest on the interior. It really is true that for the price of the AT4X, you can get way more with a Gen 3 Raptor. And the interior is nearly just as nice and full of features. I thought they would make Supercruise available on the AT4X, too.1 point

Not saying anything one way or the other, this is just my experience. My 17 had 86k on it when I traded it in for my 19 about 2 weeks ago. Never had a single engine issue and it was only at the dealer once about 2 months ago for an AC issue and fixing the chime volume. I changed the oil when the DIC was showing between 10-15%, and checked the dipstic every 2 weeks or so. The dipstic NEVER read below the full mark. Unless I was a rare exception I cant see how I had any oil left between changes listening to what people are supposedly getting out of the can on a weekly basis. If you do the math I'm putting alot more miles per week on my truck than most.1 point
