I worked for and with my father most of my life. Learned a lot, something’s I had to take with a grain of salt. One comes to mind from my youth when I was under foot. Go play on the white line. We lived in the country a long way from stripe roads. We always thought he was kidding, I think.2 points

I sort of live by this logic and is a version of my mantra during Covid. Instead of getting depressed or searching for flaws in government response to the threat, I chose to make a lot of lemonade. If or when, my Dr. advises to, "Have your affairs in order", I won't have much to do or many regrets. However, saying I don't fear death will only be true when I've done everything in my control to maintain a reasonable quality of life. I have a neighbour who has a horrible time navigating through Covid restrictions and depends heavily on others for motivation. I can't remember a time when I haven't been eager to get out of bed in the morning! (Obvious exceptions ;-)) I remember my father telling me to "look busy" when working with him on a jobsite or even at home. I quickly discovered that finding my own activities was preferable to him finding them. To this day, I can't lay or sit idly.2 points

Just bragging a little. My trip meter tends to lie in my favor by roughly 1mpg, but i haven't reset my 2nd trip ever. Took this shot before going to the dealer a few months ago in fear that they may unplug the battery and reset it. A little about my truck. I commute 60 miles, one way, to work and it takes 45 min. The 60 mile drive home takes me 2 hours, so it does see both stop&go and cruising speeds. Without bad traffic, i tend to get 32mpg, but trip usually shows 30-31. Right now i have 265/65/18 on it, but plan on going to 275/70/18 when they wear out. These michelins are great and with 51k on them now, they still look new.1 point

These shots were from my camping trip with the family. Had two adults, a child, and all my camping gear (see camping/overland thread for a pic or two) going up and down mountains around 80mph. Drove from southern california amd stopped in salt lale city utah, drove up to glacier park montana, down to yellowstone and grand tetons (wyoming), then to Estes park (colorado), then back home. Did over 4k miles, took pics at all pumps and saved receipts, and trip showed 26 on average. Actually doing the math, i ended up with 28.81 point

Leave it. Its a special edition that is supposed to be classy. Chrome never goes out of style like this blacked out theme will in a few years.... Could you imagine a big fire engine with no chrome and a bunch of blacked out items? Ish.1 point

Late in adding the pictures. Made some upgrades in preparation for the Airstream I have on order. Added the Brembo brakes and two 1,000 pound leafs to the leaf packs. Considering changing to 20-inch wheels with E load rating/10 ply tires as well both for towing as well as the fact that I'll be spending some serious time on the dirt roads of northern Maine this summer. If there are any 20-inch wheel guys in the Chicago area looking to swap into 22-inch wheels we might be able to work out a trade. The wheels and tires in these pictures wouldn't be the ones I'd be swapping; these are my winter wheels and tires.1 point

Those appear to be FAKRA connectors, which are used for camera signals. I would imagine the black tipped one is for a tailgate camera (because it’s the same color as my tailgate camera connector), and the other is for a trailer camera. FAKRA connectors are keyed and color coded to prevent cross wiring, so if you decide to order connecting wires make sure you understand the keying scheme.1 point

Yes, leave it alone. Chrome goes awesome with the color of our trucks!!! Black accents will just make it look like all of the other Silverado's.1 point

I'd suggest not running those nice 22's in the off seasons and just getting some steelies in a smaller rim? Biggest regret on my last truck was running my rims through the winters so I bought winter tires and rims this time around.1 point

Essentially, yes. Reason being, I already have the USB cable in my truck. Had nothing but problems while driving from Virginia to California. Seemed like every time I got into construction or on a bumpy road the connection at the phone was disconnected. I did try different cables, but the problem remained. Furthermore, playing the music on my phone was an issue with Google Music. It would play 1 Playlist only, and I couldn't switch to another Playlist or just the tracks list of the songs in my phone. I have over 2,000 songs in my phone. While using AA I couldn't use wifi or Bluetooth to fix the music issue. Factory nav is my solution for that. I have XM, but sometimes I just get tired of listening to it, especially on the weekends when they loop the same stuff every couple of hours. Also, if you have something else plugged into another port, such as the USB port in the center console under the armrest (I like to keep wireless ear buds charging here since I use them to ignore the other parents at my kids' practices, and it has a short cord) you'll get a notification that you need to plug in a device that has android auto when you alreadt have, and it's connected to the port under the radio/hvac controls.1 point

GM, like Apple, has their software as a closed system, meaning that it can't/shouldn't be altered by unauthorized parties. Apple iOS used to be hacked, called "jail breaking", by hackers to turn on functionality that was in the operating system but not turned on by Apple. When Apple sends out a new update for iOS, it wipes out the jail break. In a similar sense, GM does not know that additional functionality has been added to your truck. They only know what they know by what is assigned to your VIN. So when they reflashed your module, it was what they have marked down to your VIN. When someone gets official GM accessories added by the dealer, and it involves flashing some software, I think it gets added to your VIN so that in the future, any reflashes should have that change included. IMO - when MVI updates the module for NAV, they should either "lock" the change, or let GM know that the change occurred so that it can be added to your VIN. This would avoid future issues with software updates or reflashes.1 point

I'm not a tech guy, so thanks for your input. To answer your question, a possible resolution would be to treat the OS in a similar manner cell phones are treated. How many OS updates have you been through where 3rd party apps are not affected? I don't know the exact number for myself as I've been dealing with that for over a decade, but I can't recall ever losing an app unless I deliberately deleted it.1 point

Thank you for the info. To be clear, my truck is a 2020. So, the hardware is all there. Your explanation of the process prior to GM ceasing the program gives me a little hope. Everything about MY2021 is therefore moot as it relates to my situation. As for MVI, they didn't swap anything. I sent them a module from my truck that is located on the passenger side, bottom of dash area, on the far right side behind the glove box. MVI then performed their magic to add factory nav, and sent it back. I then reinstalled that module into my truck, inserted the SD card, and voila. Nothing was swapped out. I chose to go this route to avoid fighting with XM if I'd swapped that module. It was the more expensive, and more time consuming, route to go. You and I will have to agree to disagree on what constitutes theft. However, my point still stands that they can't claim to be a tech company when they don't behave like one. For example, how many times have you had a cell phone that's run an OS update and your 3rd party apps suddenly disappeared? I'm willing to wager that number is 0. Same here for me. GM should've known this could've been an issue of their going to be a tech company. Nonetheless, something was taken from me and I want it back. I shouldn't be compelled to pay. That is actually illegal. I did absolutely nothing wrong. I own my truck. It is not a lease.1 point

I had too many issues with Android Auto, such as playing my music on my phone and the cable being disconnected. Drove from Virginia to California dealing with it, and decided I was done with it. I've really enjoyed having factory nav.1 point

Your truck uses the Dexos 1 oil standard, full synthetic. Sometime in 2011 the AFM updates were complete, there was a newly designed VLOM, valve cover on the driver's side to reduce oil consumption, 3rd design De-Ac Lifters and a little shield in the oil pan. We see a lot of these fail early like yours, mine went to 110K, then there are millions of others with 200K miles and counting. GM is fully committed to V8 engines and this cylinder deactivation to make Uncle Same happy, at least for another few years. That kind of money the dealer wanted can buy a new engine with warranty! If you have the LMG engine, get the M355 oil pump. If you have the LC9, get the M365 oil pump. Do not use anybody's lifter trays unless they are GM OE only. The Chicoms have been making some and they are ruining engines as they do not keep the lifters from turning. A lot of companies sell a "stock replacement" camshaft for an AFM motor that is smaller than what was in their originally. Guess it helps to sell their fancy cams. Start moving above 210 degrees duration and the power band moves north, bottom end is lost and gained way up top. Those who get those "mild" cams then put in high stall torque converters and gears to compensate, ruining the street manners of their beloved truck. Here's some reading that might help you out, it did for me: Rebuilding GMs GenIV 5.3 Engine.pdf1 point

I've had mine two winters now. It's happened a few times where I had to pull it. Silicone spray has worked well for me. I'm more concerned with how to get it open if the power latch fails as there is no manual override.1 point

I can't say I did it the right way, but mine had 29 miles on it when I took it to work my first week with it. I've had it 3 weeks now and 2700 miles. So.....1 point

The second I left the lot I would have zero issue driving it hundreds of miles.1 point

have him do a run. Im sure 90 percent of the people on here would buy one for decent money.1 point

Mine will stick if the tail end is too high. There's no power movement to the operation of the tailgate (unless you have the power tailgate in the LTZ or High Country.) It's just the release of the latch. Gravity does the rest. So if you are parked nose down it won't open. Also almost all tonneau covers prevent it from working.1 point

https://share.icloud.com/photos/07fPc8Q-zYTTNT4psmCkhHteA i have a 2018 Sierra and the radio screen randomly started glitching and blacking out, however I can still touch things, the audio works, i can make phone calls and navigation works. I already pulled the fuse and replaced it and reconnected the gm interlink connections under the glove box. Also it doesn’t do it on the mornings when I go to work but on the way back it does. I attached a link for a video of it. Any suggestions?0 points

well i think my engine is about to bite the dust. finally got aorund to swapping in a new oil pressure sensor the old one read 80psi always and found the oil pressure is about 5 psi hot idle and 20 while cruising i did another oil change and opened the filter and found lots of small metal flakes (they are magnetic) no valvetrain or bottom end noise though0 points

Just got off the phone with Chevrolet customer care. They suggested buying an extended warranty from a dealer and using that to get the engine repair completed.0 points
