  1. Well I took the ZR2 to the local 1/8 mile track tonight. The conditions weren't ideal being that it was 90° and humid but she did pretty good. The only mod is the GMPP Borla S-type exhaust. My best time was a 9.62 and I was able to hold my own with this vette!

  2. Premium was $1 more today. I still choose premium because I bought a damn 6.2L for “the power”. I also read an article that came out yesterday about the high cases of defaulting auto loans. So many “fools” over budgeted themselves during the pandemic because they had the government money coming in, interest rates were low, and they WANTED something new. Not thinking about the consequences of what the future holds. Well it’s going to get worse before it gets better. I just pray we as a society can get through it without more chaos!!

  3. Mine is factory like other 2 gentleman’s vehicle. I have 6 ft 6 in box and it goes wheel well to wheel well. Nice and easy to clean back window stepping up onto extended board.

  4. I dont get why someone would pay 60+ grand for the lux truck model and then save 5-10 bucks a fill up to put lesser grade dirtier fuel into their engines which the manufacture clearly doesn't recommend. Have any of you seen a person who has taken the top half of one of these di motors apart because the valve caking is an absolute real issue everyone with one of these engines will face, using cheaper fuel will only make the issue worse. If your a pump and dumper and trade out like you do socks then it most likely will never be an issue for you, the person who buys it will be a different issue.

  5. We just took a trip in our 2016 Suburban with the 5.3 and I installed the ethanol sensor, Black Bear Performance tuned it and turned on the E85 table and I imagine tuned that as well, or tweaked it. I ran E85 the entire trip and put around 1,200 miles on it. We averaged 17mpg when normally would get 21mpg on 93. The difference is that E85 where I got it was and is that I know of $3.70 and 93 is $4.90 to $5.60 in places in PA. Our cost per mile was break even for the most part but I didn't do the math 100%. I just like the performance of E85 and the smell of the exhaust. Not to mention the benefits of it burning cleaner. My UOA's prove that. As for my 6.2, I use 93 and when I can mix E85 along with it. I found anything more than a 40/60 mix throws a CEL for running lean code P0171 GM and all the other manufactures should just make every ICE vehicle a flex fuel and let us decide if we want to us it or not. I know it isn't available everywhere.

  6. I sold mine with 99k in 2014 for a loaded GMC Acadia. Loved the ride of the Acadia and needed a more “family hauler” back then. Man I wish I would have just kept it and bought the Acadia out right but wife and I were not financially set like we are now. Sure to miss the SS though. Man glad u enjoyed yours. 100k in two years is a $h!t ton of miles and smiles!!!

  7. Even though I didn't have a pic, mine is a 'standard' box like TNT's. As shown in the pic, the length behind the rear door means they can be used to help access something sitting in front corner of box. I started buying boards in the '80's. Trucks stock heights were lower, so primary motivation was to reduce / eliminate stone damage. Flat styles do that better than tubes.

  9. I’m with you I had a blast with mine. Our tractor sales went way up because I couldn’t wait to get on the road. On sales calls. 100K miles in two years.

  11. Finally got a chance to test out my new electric pressure washer and foam cannon. Was too into the wash I forgot to take a picture of it all foamed up. Clayed/waxed after the hard winter neglect, full interior detail as well. Much needed! Next week going to drop the trans pan and change filter/oil. 48k since the last time it's been changed and shifts are starting to firm up more than I'd like. Hoping to get as much life out of this 6 speed before I start getting the itch for a new AT4...

  12. Still using premium. Have considered e85 conversion but I got other stuff to do. $5.30 last time I checked Edit: 14.5 mpg was my last few fillups. I have a weird feeling something is going on since that is a major drop in the past couple months

  13. Ha, I think the same thing! We are right around 600'-700' above sea level.

  14. Ya. I remember reading an article back in 2005 when GM was developing the SS Trailblazer and they did talk about “throwing turbos” on the inline 6, and it made good power, but they stated in the article they wanted that “robust V8” engine rumble and put in the out going 6.0L corvette motor. Which I’m glad they did because man I loved the vehicle. Sometimes you look back and say to yourself…..”why did I ever get rid of it”? If we only knew!!!

  15. Especially below, at, and reasonably around sea level. That’s why I wish TFLTruck would go to sea level and do drag races some times. The ecobust has such an advantage in higher elevations. Reading the comments the Ford fanboys always gloat. I just chuckle.

  17. GM had a skunk works project with the Atlas 6 platform, specifically their 4.2L where they strapped on 2 turbos , dropped the compression down to 8.5:1, and made 400 HP and 400 TQ. That was before DI and cylinder deactivation so I would assume they could easily pull more power from that platform now. The problem with the Atlas motors was their length and engine mounting requirements. They simply didn't fit in anything but the singular Trailblazer platform. Absolutely great motor and like you, I would be interested in seeing its transition to a modern platform, but unfortunately I don't think its likely.

  21. The Vette had a near 2.9 second 60' which is HORRIBLE, with a good driver you'll see 1.9 60's from the Vette, which will knock a minimum of 1.0-1.3 seconds off the big end. Don't let that detract from your trucks performance though, the truck had a great run and it sounds really good! PS, AUTO 4WD and traction control turned off are your biggest helps when drag racing the truck. It should dang near hole-shot everything out there. Peoples reactions when you put 2 cars on them in the first 100' is awesome, its just the remaining 1220 feet of track they drag your ass down that isn't quite as fun .

  22. Thanks! Unfortunately the ZR2 does not have sport mode. I was in 4auto with traction and advanced trac off.

  23. Actually the vette had a better reaction time. .6689 and I had a .9784. These trucks are terrible to launch. If you brake tq them they bog, and when you just release the brake and stop the gas there is a delay. I always leave when the last yellow lights up but you almost have to leave before it.

  24. So here is a thought. GM already had the inline 6 Atlas motor over a decade ago in the Trailblazer. It was a 4.2L and produced 291 hp and 277 TQ. That could possibly be a motor to develop off of. I had 2 Atlas motors in a 2002 TB and then an 06 TB and they were both very strong and reliable.

  25. I was able to do a 9.87 in similar conditions 2 years ago, like 85 degrees and 90% humidity. It just wanted to spin off the line so I had to leave in 4AUTO. My trucks a 5.3 though.

  26. So it was pin 14, not 13. Regardless, I replaced the techm and the truck talked to the computer. Reprogrammed, went through the shifting procedures, truck drives great. So what does pin 14 do?

  27. With their findings I would look at the ignition coil connector and plug wires. The inner coil connector gets corroded and will not throw a misfire code. Unless the miss becomes prevalent.

  31. My friend has those Duratracs on his Z71 and every time he drives by I can hear the tires making noise. Says the same thing, very noisy and terrible in the snow. And as typical with these type tires, the more the wear the worse the noise will get. Probably rotating every 5,000 from new will improve the noise but not for long...The more aggressive the tread the more a wear pattern will form and that's what causes noise. They are intended for the off-road...non hard pavement driving..
    1 point
  32. If the alignment is off, it will cause an irregular wear pattern that can cause the tires to howl. Can also happen if you do not rotate often, the rears will get a "chop" to them and they will howl. A burnout can cure that!

  33. Mine has the same type as reeseb shows in the pic, but mine is a standard box, so the board goes further behind the rear door. Still wheel-to-wheel. Happy with them. I like them better than the rectangular boards that were common on the previous generation.

  34. Yeah these prices are retarded. I told my wife I think its more to break the middle class than anything else. I miss it taking less than $20 to fill up my ride lol. We had a budget of about $300 a month for the two vehicles we have now its up to $600. I think I need to find a remote job so I can use less gas for work and more for fun lol.

  35. No audible knock in my LV3 with any fuel but incipient is as you describe for the 6.2 to the "T" as read by the scan tool. She is still pulling timing running 93! But never on E40 or greater ethanol blends. But until recently has lived pretty much on 87 for her entire life to date. 155K. LV1 and LV3 are 11.0 : 1 CR

  36. No knock on E85 all through the rpm range, some knock on 93 at WOT. I run 93 when the convenience of range is needed and don't want to be looking around for ethanol pumps when out of town. WOT knock on 93 is minimal, have recorded it to show you guys but don't know how to post it. Someday I'll corral one of the kids to get it done. 6.2 DI motors are 11.5:1.

  37. I'm sure it will appeal to some at that price point, but definitely not me. Hell, you could get a C8 and a LOADED Silverado for 150K. That thing costs more than my first house.

  38. I've had a few factory performance vehicles in my day. The problem lately is you can’t just buy a little more performance without them throwing the kitchen sink at it. For the pleasure of going 0-60 in a little over 1 second quicker it cost 50K more. Of course I wouldn’t pay that kind of money for a dressed up suburban anyway. There’s just two many other performances options out there from manufacturers that know what they’re doing cheaper. The last time GM did a performance SUV right was the trailblazer ss . The last car was the SS it was an import. The trucks have been pretty good for awhile. They mess them up with cylinder deactivation.

  39. Its a form of Cash for Clunkers 2.0 with this EV push at the expense of the people as usual (gas prices). I'm all for EVs existing, but its being done all wrong and too fast. There needs to be a coexisting period of new ICE and EV to ensure that the rest of the US infrastucture can be rebuilt to handle mass EV charging. People keep saying "charge at night when the grid is low!". That's great, until the grid can't handle that even. At the rate the automakers are going, there will be shortcuts made on battery packs, motors and other controlling electronics, with recalls and possibly worse to follow. The Ultium tech that GM JUST launched already has a Gen 2 that's not far behind it.

  40. https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2020/10/misleading-these-trucks-recommend-or-require-premium-fuel/#:~:text=GM recommends using 93 octane, economy you must use 93. Recommends and Requires do not have the same meaning. Question! As GM's RECOMENDED 93 is not available everywhere in the USA does that mean those who live in areas without 93 can 't own a 6.2? Kiddo's my little much hatted by most 4.3 RECOMMENDS 87 octane and pulls up to 10 degrees KIR on every hill or major headwind. It's also a Flex Fuel vehicle and pulls zero KIR when using something over 40% ethanol and more interestingly does about 3% better that the carbon balance would indicate which speaks to GM's claims the RECOMMENDED USE of higher octane fuel will ENHANCE PERFORMANCE AND MILEAGE. IF KIR knocked rings out of motors there would be heaps of dead 4.3's littering the highways. Does that mean others observations of damage are in error? Absolutely not. Some knuckle heads think towing heavy on 87 is a good idea and they will suffer for that mistake. KIR will not pull an infinite amount of timing.

  41. They do, it is not speculation, those of us who pay attention have witnessed it. Your high compression engines knock/ping while driving around town on that 87 swill. You cannot hear it. You take off from a light, the motor knocks and the computer pulls timing. You go to pass a guy, even without downshifting, the motor knocks and the computer pulls timing. 1000 more times on your trip to the mall and back. You don't think that will take toll day after day, month after month, year after year? I don't know more than everyone else, I paid attention and learned it here. You can too if you do your research. Last time at the drags I took a video from inside the cab, from the stands and took a Snapshot with my Tech-2 to show you guys that the motors do knock and you cannot always hear it. I am not tech savvy enough put three videos into one but someday my kids might slow down and help me post it for y'all. Myself and others have posted videos from youtube of 6.2s that came apart because of prolonged use of low octane gasoline.

  42. You knuckleheads running 87 in your 6.2s let us know when you sell your truck so we can avoid it. Broken rings and pistons are in the motor's future. Y'all ought to get the motor you can afford. As for me and my house, we will always burn E85 or 93 in our FlexFuel vehicles regardless of price. God provides for our needs.

  43. Try googling the VIN to see if it's connected with the owner, some states allow you to check on their DMV websites. States also sell the data, you'd buy all the VINs and it would come with all of the names and addresses.

  46. The rattle is definitely coming from the cats (now both sides). I have checked for loose connections and anything touching the headers. I can stop the rattle by touching something to the cats while it's rattling. Touching anywhere along the headers and primaries has no effect. Sent a video to Kooks at their request this was what they said to check. Regarding the y pipe, I'm exceptionally disappointed in the craftsmanship and customer service of Kooks. I received no other responses from them on these issues. I slid the mid pipe forward and removed it from the hanger mount just so the ball and socket would seat well enough to clamp together. I decided to have the y pipe and the mid-pipe to the cat back cut and a Vibrant resonator welded in place. I can't believe how much of a difference the resonator made on the sound of the headers! Love the sound of this combination. Thanks all for your help!
