  1. Can't say enough good things about the refeshed 2024 2500 HD LT (6.6 gas) that I have had for a whole two weeks now. Coming from a 2022 Ram 2500 Tradesman (6.4 gas), the ride and mileage (may be a bit premature but looks good so far) are way better and no more wandering all over the highway constantly correcting with the steering wheel. The Rams are nice trucks (actually all the manufacturers make good trucks now) and all you ever hear is how nice the Rams ride compared to the competition. Well I can tell you that the 2024 HD LT gas truck rides way better than the Ram 2500 gasser. The Allison 10 speed trans is seamless and seems to keep the truck in the middle of the power band. Have not filled up my first tank of gas yet but with the trip computer I am getting between 13 and 14 in town and 16 to 18 on the highway (both unloaded). Hope I am not disappointed when I hand calculate the average MPG. I like the LT as it seems to be the best value given the number of standard features that come with that trim option. Bought the truck as we plan to purchase a travel trailer and can't wait to see how this rig tows. Just wanted share what a great truck this is and hope it will be as reliable as I think it will be.

  2. Yes, it's a two piece oil pan. The upper is aluminum and the lower a steel pan. It's a big job to do both and with current labor rates and book time, that's why a dealership charges so much.

  4. Picked this up a little over a month ago. 2023 High Country 6.2 with everything except supercruise and multigate. 22x10 Fuel Mavericks 305x45x22 Michelin Defender LTX Corsa sport catback exhaust Traded in a 22 High Country 6.2 with a Borla Touring catback. This setup is way nicer.

  5. I got to see and sit in two pre-production Colorados at the Philly auto show a couple of weekends ago. One was a Trail Boss and the other was an LT. This is my personal opinion and I think it was a bag of mixed results. I really liked the layout of the dashboard and the rest of the interior, but I wasn’t impressed with the materials used. The materials used were pretty cheap plastics and it was a little better in the LT with some soft touch materials, but I think the plastics could have been of better quality. Of course, what main manufacturer has not cheaped out on interior materials over the last several years. I’m 5’7 and found it hard to get in and out of the back. It’s a tight fit due to the size of the doors, but I found I had good head room and leg room once seated in the back. Seat material and quality was fine. One thing that really impressed me was the box size. I remember looking at the previous gen crew cab Colorados and thinking to myself how tiny the beds were. This bed or box, whatever you want to call it, is much bigger and a huge improvement over the previous gen crew cab. Another cool thing is that there is a storage compartment on the inside of the tailgate. I don’t remember if there was a way to lock it with a key, but there were two small levers that kept it closed. This feature is called the Stowflex Tailgate per Chevy’s website. Exterior looks wise it’s fine. What I found interesting about the LT was that it was a black truck, had a black front bumper, but had a dark gray grille. I think it would have looked much better if the grille was black too. The hood was open on the Trail Boss and everything fluid wise is easy to find and reach. GMC did not have any Canyons there which was disappointing. Overall, there were some positives and negatives. I think there are areas that could be improved, but other aspects that have improved compared to the last gen. Hopefully these trucks turn out to be dependable and sell well.

  6. A couple of things I've seen on the financial news the last couple of days have struck me regarding GM. First off yesterday Liz Claman from Fox Biz interviewed Mary Barra and when Mary was asked about reoccurring revenue streams she broke into a smile that would have put the Joker to shame. I'm pretty sure that Grumpy would label that a greedy smile. Mary specifically mentioned subscription services for super cruise. If GM's marketing arm monitored these forums they would realize how bad people hate having to pay to use something they've already purchased. Secondly this am a financial advisor said he would be shorting GM's stock given their all-in approach on EV's. The headwinds that renewables face and the shortcomings of EV's are well known, yet GM plows blindly down this path like a lamb to slaughter. The last sentence being my perception of his sentiment. Your thoughts?

  7. The hiss noise you hear is the power steering system. Its a hydraulic system and the noises are perfectly normal. You hear a howl noise at idle with no movement on the steering wheel. Noise changes when moving the steering wheel. Totally normal. 6.6 gas comes with hydraulic power steering and hydraulic brakes.

  8. Dealership came through big time. I stopped up and my service advisor handed me a brand new qt of 75w90. I asked if low diffs are common - and he said "all the time." He claimed after pdi test drive, the tech should be checking and topping off as they KNOW this is common. He made a note to talk to the tech that did my pdi. He offered to have me drop off the truck but I told him I can handle it. Good to know some dealerships are still good

  10. Will be on the look out for you. I bought the truck to potentailly tow about a 30' bumper pull TT in the range of 7 to 8k lbs. I am sure it will do just fine. Can't wait. Glad to know you had no problems pulling with your previous truck. The new trans should really improve the experience.

  11. I am very frustrated with GM. Being a good Canadian right now watching NHL playoffs, I see lots of Chevy and GMC truck commercials. But when you go to a dealer lot there is not a hell of a lot to look at. And the prices are nuts.

  12. Greed my good man isn't a political issue. It's a moral one. It has no party and no agenda past itself. The purpose I suppose is that it is a topic all have some interest in and up till now has been non-divisive. Just a place to hang out and offer a comment on conditions in your area. Human interest, fellowship.

  13. X2 on what Davester said. Check the integrated orifice in the valve cover and check the baffling on the underside of the covers. If anything after checking those out doesn't fix the oil on startup, next likely target is valve seals.

  14. i put these shocks on my 2014 and was the first mod i did on my 2020. are there better shocks, yes but for the price you wont regret installing bilstien shocks over the oem shocks. took away the boaty feeling my 2020 had and the best part is you have better control in wash board type roads

  15. Yeah, I would start with the pcv system. My '04 3500/6.0 didn't have a old-school rattling replaceable pcv valve, but a pressed in fixed orific one (which I found out after wrecking it getting it out). You might: -add a catch can -pull off the valve cover, make sure the port is clean and that the internal baffle is clean and the holes in it aren't plugged

  17. This is why I love this site. There are people like grumpy, newdude, pryme, etc etc that know way more than I do about these trucks that are fortunately willing to share their knowledge about them when you have a question. That recent post of grumpy's for example, I have not taken the time to educate myself on the G80 rear diff. He provided me with a ton of information and a video to help me learn it!!! How much better can life get? The knowledge and the willingness of people to help others is here on this site and I LOVE IT!!!

  21. I would STRONGLY argue against that. FOX, KING, etc are very nice traditional shocks, but the ZR2 is a completely different engineering design that outperforms the traditional shock in nearly EVERY category, most importantly adjustability. Even Ford passed up King, Fox, etc. to install the spool valve shocks on their Baja Bronco. Spool valves are the future, and you will see major suspension companies transitioning to them in the future and utilizing those shocks in modified forms for their long travel setups.

  22. You have a choice in life, to trust or not to trust. I trust nothing/ no one unless it's done by me. Assembly line assembly leaves lots of chances for mistakes and no manufacturer has quality control you can count on because it costs money.

  23. Not sure I buy the theory of de-optioning a truck in order to get it built sooner. Unless a specific item is on constraint and noted on your order no one at the factory cares. Personally I think they want the trucks heavily optioned due to the increased profits. There are still some build short scenarios happening but they are small and quickly remedied. You may want to hold off on the lights until you get the truck. Its my understanding that they are the same since the sheetmetal is unchanged on the 24's but I know for a fact that the electrical architecture was changed in support of all the new content standard and optional. Just my opinion and worth exactly what you paid for it.

  24. Maybe its just me (probably the case) and I'll probably change my mind once I get my new truck BUT is the interior really that much different other than a larger center screen? Also, I know there was alot of controversy about the front end of the 2020's when they came out but it really has grown on me. This is subjective I know but I'm not convinced the facelift on the 2024 looks better, just different, speaking specifically to the High Country front end. This isn't a case of me trying to prop up the current model because that's what I have, my new 2024 should be arriving anyday now.

  25. Thank you @newdude for the information. I have turned wrenches for 41 years come Thursday. I have never seen a fill hole on briggs&Stratton to a 13 speed eaton transmission not be the full mark. If gm wants it to be filled under the fill hole, lower the damn hole.

  28. GM used to be my first choice. Impala used to be my favorite vehicle, rear drive. That’s been replaced by a Genesis. Regular extended cab trucks were my choice for a pickup. They’re all but extinct. I secretly prefer a mini van for a trip vehicle. GM doesn’t make one. When I look at car prices for a reasonably equipped vehicle of the past. They fall into the lower mid 20K at adjusted pricing. Not many reasonably equipped GMs in that range. Other brands do. GMs betting on electric. I don’t believe that’s a good move.

  29. I just bought a 2021 3500 HD and I am having the same problem, but only on the driver’s side. I wonder if it is a plastic gear that has some teeth worn off?

  30. In rural areas, fuel stations can be very far apart. Also, if you do any driving late at night, stations that do actually exist, are closed anyway. For those more extreme situations, some extra fuel cans in the bed can get you trough, but it's just nicer to not have to pack 'em.
