  1. Hey guys, picked up a new to me truck last week and ive been doing some little tune up stuff to it while ive been stuck at home. 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71 with the 5.3. Only 100,000 miles. Single cab long bed and pretty rust free for being a Vermont truck. I came from a 1998 Chevy but im familiar with the 5.3 as well. Anything interesting to know about this year truck? Or helpful owner or past owner insights?
  2. Not sure id totally recommend this. Taking home a test rig and returning it with a large scratch and dent in the roof might not be smart. Id go measure one sitting on a dealership lot. As stated, all garages can be slightly different and when we're talking about an inch of clearance, I wouldn't try it.
  3. Too bad its out of warranty. In my opinion, 75k is way too early for a trans to fail even if the fluid was never changed. At this point id look around for local transmission shops. Avoid the dealer and their high shop rates if you can.
  4. My family towed a hair over that with our half ton for about 5 years. We camped probably every other weekend and did some 4+ hour trips. My dad was always saying that anything bigger (>7500), he would want a 3/4 ton. But it wasn't worth the payment and the added cost of a bigger truck. You'll feel the trailer for sure but not out of the range at all. I wouldn't even spend the money on bags or anything like that. A good weight distribution hitch plus that added leaf and you'll be good.
  5. My 1998 does not. I don't think any had them until the GMT-900 platform in 07/08.
  6. You can get them pretty cheap off rock auto. I would for cheap insurance. Id hate to get everything together and have them start to leak.
  7. You are working with a lot more gears in the transmission in your 2019 compared to your 1989. I bet it would be fine but your speedo will be off without a tune.
  8. How helpful But yeah I suppose you could but the size of the project might make it not worth it. Decent bit of wiring. Why do you want them? Just for more safety?
  9. GM strike, my local shop has a truck waiting on a bearing as well. Won't see them until the strikes done.
  10. Living on a gravel road in rural Vermont, i'd argue that my gray stays much cleaner than any white vehicles ive seen. But that's just my opinion.
  11. A synthetic gear oil. Recommended would be found in your manual. I'm guessing its a SM-465 which has the granny low with 3 more speeds. Most go with a 85W-90 with a GL-4 rating. Stay away from GL-5 it will eat your synchronizes.
  12. Fuse would be the first check. It might be a relay I cant remember off the top of my head.
  13. Id be willing to bet your losing power with only a straight pipe with no restrictions. They benefit from a little back pressure. Do you still have your Cats or any muffler?
  14. We could go back to the 80's. My 1982 GMC K2500 (6.2 Diesel and TH-400) had 2.56 gears. It would cruise very nicely at 60-65. These new transmissions really make up for a low rear gear. 3 speeds vs 6,8 or even 10 is no comparison.
  15. Haynes manuals are pretty handy. They can be ordered online or even are available at most parts stores.

  17. I would say you posted this in the wrong sub forum.
  18. Id start with your fuel pressure test. Might as well get all the info before you try and diagnose.
  19. Musk has more money than probably everyone on this page put together. Id say he can do whatever he likes with his time. Hes done his work.
  20. Its entertainment, for every guy that doesnt like it, 2 do.
