  1. The 3.08 is solely intended for maximum economy, it is ill-suited to towing. I had a 2015 yukon xl 5.3 6 speed with 3.08's until last week when we traded it in for a more capable 2017 Sierra. The yukon could get 23-24 mpg on a good day, but towing a 5700 GWR travel trailer dropped that to 10. Even mild headwinds caused the transmission to continuously hunt gears and barely maintain 60 mph on flat ground. I hated the sluggish nature of the 3.08's which IMHO ruined an overwise great vehicle in the name of "fuel economy".
