  1. Decided to make a new thread about headers. So I am looking for ways to add some umph to my truck. I have seen that long tube headers can add low end torque and HP. Anyone run with these types of headers? What kind of power gains have you seen? Hooked to stock exhaust or full custom?
  2. Alright, so I've literally spent probably 8 hours or so researching on this forum about exhaust and intake upgrades. (I have a '17 Sierra 5.3) Obviously the CAI horse has been beaten to death on pretty much every forum immaginable. I'm a Mechanical Engineer by trade so data goes a long way with me. From what I've seen, on this new Ecotec engine, you don't really gain a whole lot with a CIA, many have just resorted to the Airaid MIT, but even that only see's minimal improvements and only around 5,500 rpm. So I just opted to go with the AEM dry filter for a bit more flow, and call it a day. I've even thought about doing the airbox mod, but when I got everything apart, the cross sectional area of the square hole in the airbox looks to be about the same as the cross sectional area of the intake tube diameter...So whats the point? (unless I'm missing something). So I just left it at the new AEM filter and called it a day. I have the level and 33's on this truck, so I'm not looking to drag race it. Just get it to breath as well as possible. Any input or opinions on this setup would be appreciated. Now on to the exhaust. I plan to just do a muffler swap, so I bought a new Borla Pro XS. I've seen a TON of debate on "leave the resonator, remove the resonator, leave the flapper, remove the flapper". I dont want this thing to be loud. I just want it to sound good and "natural". So as I said, I just opted to leave everything stock and replace the muffler. HOWEVER, I scooted under the truck this morning just to take a look, and now I'm completely baffled (pun intended). It looks to me like the resonator on this truck is AFTER the muffler!?!? You have the giant oil barrel shaped muffler with the flapper just in front of it, then downstream you have a (roughly) 8" diameter round barrel which I can only assume is the resonator? So my question is, is that correct, or am I missing something? ...maybe I have it backwards? Also, is leaving the flapper and resonator the correct thing to do if I just want a slight sound upgrade? Thanks guys!
  3. Im think about redoing my exhaustas fuels with glass packs and the glasspacks I bought is 3in but thinking bout getting 2.25 adapters for them then run 2.25 all the way back would that be to small?
  4. Hello all, newbie here. I just bought my first ever brand new vehicle. I always bought a year or 2 old vehicles but, with the rebates GM were handing out new was as cheap as used. Anyway I have a blue 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT. I love it! Things I've done so far is...2.5" rough country leveling kit, moto metal 970 rims, nitto ridge grappler 275/60/20 tires, few other minor things. I wanted ya'lls thoughts on adding flowmaster exhaust, k&n intake, color matching front and rear bumper (I know paint wont hold well on chrome but will eventually get after market front and rear bumpers anyway) want to color match the mirror caps, door handles, front grill, and paint the chrome running boards black. I plan on removing all the badges and chrome door trim as well. Thoughts???
  5. I picked up a 2018 Silverado custom with the 4.3 a few months ago, i love it so far but the only thing i dont like is that it is way to quiet compared to my old silverado. Has anyone put an exhaust on that makes a little more noise but dosen't make the v6 sound like a subaru? I want some noise out of this beast!
  6. Ok, need some opinions, advice, ideally some experience. I've been through many many mufflers ranging from "Wake the kids across the house when you start your truck in the morning" to "is that a stock muffler I just spent $150 on?". I now have my first new truck ever, a 2018 GMC sierra 1500 crew cab all terrain with the 6.2. I love the truck and I'm looking to do a custom exhaust only because of the look and not the sound (maybe 75/20 because this truck has no tone at all). You get the idea...I want it quiet. The exhaust I want to build is a side exit, dual tip, before the right rear tire. I don't like the look of the Gibson setup and I'm concerned it would be way too loud anyways. I have a couple questions and would love thoughts and opinions. 1. How far forward can I go with a muffler without issues? If I do the corsa twin tip I'm going to need a lot of space due to the design of that particular tip (which I like a lot). Does moving the muffler towards the front effect sound at all? 2. If I want zero interior drone, what do you think about a big 22" magnaflow and right next to it weld in the factory rear resonator? That thing is straight through and if I had the room under there to do the pipework needed for the side exit, I would think that the combo could provide a little more V8 tone but tame it down considerably. I assume most of you will hate this idea but could it accomplish what I'm after? Thanks,
  7. Has anybody ever put any flowmaster or other type of exhaust on a Silverado with the eAssit on it . Wondering if it sounds weird when it turns back on at the stop sings
  8. Which Headers do you recommend for a truck equipped with the 6.2 liter L86 engine? 1.Which ones do you have? 2. Why do you endorse them? -Cost -Quality -Ease of installation -Size (1 3/4 Vs. 1 7/8) -Performance -Sound (tone quality, volume, drone) -Longevity -Value (cost, complications and effort Vs. added performance and enjoyment -Downsides 3. Associated exhaust parts 4. Any other special considerations i have a 2015 High Country 4WD 1500 CCSB with the 6.2. I have decided to possibly “tune it up”. If it is financially feasible and will add to the daily driving enjoyment of this truck. It is not a “pig” by any means, but it lags a bit, especially with the larger/heavier tires and their effect on gearing. I think it would be greatly improved by being “woken up” through a few steps. I am considering: Banks CAI Ported/Polished stock throttle body BlackBear Tuning 194* GM Thermostat and slightly more aggressive fan profile in tuning. LongTube Headers with Cats Dual Exhaust Mufflers and Resonators - I have had good luck with and like AERO Turbine mufflers out of Utah. I was considering two of his AT3030 mufflers and two of the AR30 resonators, somewhere over the axles, with L/R tips behind the rear wheels. In looking at my plans, I think that the exhaust without mods would be a bottleneck. I currently have removed the factory muffler and flapper and put back an Aero turbine 3030XL or maybe 3535XL muffler. (I don’t remember) What at do you think of my plan? What is good or bad? Help me decide what to do. Headers and a full exhaust change can become quite expensive, if the gains aren’t that significant, maybe this part of “the plan” can be changed. If you feel that headers are not needed, please share. Please try to be clear, concise and factual in regards to your Header choices. Let’s not get too derailed discussing just mufflers. Hopefully this thread can help many others with this particular decision. I searched the exhaust thread, but it is daunting to find this particular information. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience. The members here make this forum the best of its kind for our trucks. -Darksky
  9. Ok so we’re getting ready to put the replacement engine in my 2001 2500HD 6.0 and one of the exhaust bolts was broken of like they do. So we removed all the bolts and are going to replace them. So my question is where should I get the new bolts GM replacements or get them from somewhere else and use stainless or grade 10.9. And do we use anti-seize or not?
  10. Has anybody done a muffler delete then moved onto the GM Borla? I just traded in my early 2014 5.3L Denali to a 2016 6.2L Denali. I had Borla S Type on my 2014 5.3L and loved the sound around town but couldn't stand the constant hum on the highway. I just did the muffler delete on my 2016 6.2L and like the sound and how silent it is on the highway. But I do miss the Borla sound. Is the GM Borla just as quite on the highway as a muffler delete with flapper open and resonater still in the chain? Thanks!
  11. I have a 2008 GMC Sierra with the 5.3 liter engine. I hear a rattle coming from the underneath of the truck only at 1000-1500 RPM’s. I checked for loose clips and stuff but I have found nothing. It doenst affect the way the truck runs just the sound. Also, the temperature doesn’t affect the rattle.
  12. Hello everyone, welcome to my build thread! This thread will be updated as I go. If you have any questions and/or concerns, feel free to comment below or PM me. Thanks, I hope y’all like it! At the same time, I’m also trying to find a fix to a lot of issues with the truck. Many that others are experiencing as well, and some that seem to be isolated, so stay tuned. 13. I have a 2014 Chevy Silverado Z71 with the 5.3L engine and long story short the exhaust set up i have is i cut everything after the CATs and put a single chamber Flowmaster super 10 and dumped it off right before the axle. I am trying to find a solution to the horrible drone i experience around 1700-2000 RPMs and the "helicopter" sound I experience when the engine switches into 4 cylinder mode. I still have the factory section of the exhaust i cut off which has the flapper which I am wondering if putting the flapper back in would solve the helicopter sound as well as fix the drone? I'm mediocre when it comes to knowledge when it comes to exhaust at best so i have no idea what it would take. What would it take/what is the best solution to make my exhaust remain loud when i get on it but not be annoying as heck in the cab when i am at speed and on the freeway? Thanks for your time in advance!
  14. Seen alot of posts like this but none that quite answer my question. I have a 2018 Sierra 1500 Denali with the 6.2. I am thinking about installing an electric exhaust cut out before the muffler. (For arguments sake let's say my best friend is the warranty manager at my local dealership so I am not concerned about warranty mumbo) What I'd like to know is if I am going to run into any check engine light or any other messages popping up that she will pissed at me about it. I noticed alot of people with '14s and '15s not having issues with them but I feel like this 2018 has so many sensors and is so touchy that I'm hoping to hear from someone on here with the same year that has done it or knows of someone who has? I dont have any oxygen sensors back that far but is this engine computer smart enough to realize there is no backpressure from the muffler or something like that. I may just be being paranoid but really dont want to have to look at an idiot light over it. Wouldn't be worth it..or would it Any logical input would be very appreciated!
  15. I purchased these headers about a year ago and before I could get them installed started having issues with my 2016 Sierra and didnt want to give GM any reason to deny my powertrain claim. I have since had those issues resolved but decided to go a different route with my truck and thus these are for sale. Asking $750 obo plus the ride. Motivated seller as I would like to finish my G8. Thanks. These will fit both the 5.3 and 6.2 of the below listed vehicles. Note if you have the 6.2 you will have to expand the ball at the end of the connection pipe to fit. Thanks again. 2014-17 Silverado/Sierra2015-17 Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade
  16. I've read enough about these valves to want to clamp it in the full open position until I can delete it entirely when I get a cat-back exhaust. But, how in the hell do you clamp off the round ones on the 2018 trucks? Here's what mine looks like, and a simple hose clamp managed to slip off after only two days.
  17. Have a custom mid-pipe I built to install an aftermarket muffler (Magnaflow 12909) in my 2015 2500hd 6.0 truck. I removed the muffler and went back to stock so have this left over. This makes a cleaner install and saves your mid pipe if you want to revert back to stock. The aftermarket mufflers don't have as much offset as factory and the factory mid-pipe has a offset in it that accounts for that. With this straight mid-pipe it works perfect with the less offset of the aftermarket muffler and allows everything to be installed level with the truck. Here is my post about the muffler with additional info: I had this on a crew cab, 6.5' bed 4x4 truck. I'm sure other cab/bed configurations might need this lengthened or shortened but at least the hard part of the flange and hangers are done. Asking $75 for this custom mid-pipe. How it looked installed. muffler not included. Factory muffler to show the drop offset in the original mid-pipe.
  18. I have a used Borla cat-back, Touring# 140570, local pickup only for $600 system has about 15k miles, great exhaust, not too loud, no drone. A bit dirty, removed because I am trading in the truck. also have Volant Cold air intake if interested for $200
  19. On my last truck (2008 GMC 2500 6.0) and this truck (2015 Chevrolet 2500 6.0) I kinda always wanted to remove the monster factory muffler and give the truck a little tone. I read some feedback and ended up with a Magnaflow 12909 3.5" muffler. After receiving I noticed the offset isn't the same as the factory muffler and wouldn't be a direct install unless you don't mind the muffler sitting in the truck at and angle to meet up to the existing exhaust. What I did notice was the factory pipe from the flange just in front of the muffler dropped down a few inches and if that were a straight section it would make the muffler offset perfect to reach the tailpipe section. I cut the pip as close to the rear of the factory muffler and unbolted the flange. I cut the welds on the factory ball flange and the hangers to make a new intermediate pipe that will be straight. I picked up a length of 3.5" exhaust pipe from a local exhaust shop and mocked up the muffler and flange and built the new pipe. With this pipe the muffler, intermediate pipe, and tailpipe were all level with the truck. With it all installed time to try it out. At idle the truck sounded great, not really any louder that stock but a deep rumble sound. Where I started to question it was driving, I would get a drone around 1600-1700 rpm that wasn't terribly loud but enough I noticed I turned the radio up a little more than normal. Above that and north of 2000 rpm it was fairly quiet in the cab and sounded great. A friend listened outside and said it wasn't obnoxiously loud but you could tell it wasn't stock and had a great deep tone to it. I tried it for a week and finally decided the drone area, especially when towing my rock crawler, was just more than I wanted to listen too on long trips so finally just put the factory muffler back in. No one else in the 2500/3500 section really mentions drone with the muffler but I did find a guy with a 1500 6.2 truck that tried and and removed because of drone. Maybe it has to do with my blackbear tune and something going on in that range differently that the others guys here. I had to grab another factory intermediate pipe since I had cut mine up for the flanges and hangers. A buddy bought the magnaflow muffler for his ram 2500 6.4 truck but I have this straight intermediate pipe left over I thought I would sell to someone else that might want to try a different muffler with a cleaner install. Pipe is 36.5" long from face of flange to end of pipe and you can see in the last pictures where the weld was and how much fit inside the muffler. PM me if you are interested. And now for the pictures: The factory intermediate pipe with the drop down near the flange: Cut the flange and hangers off the factory pipe: Muffler and new intermediate pipe: New muffler installed: Leftover intermediate pipe for sale after cutting muffler off:
  20. I just purchased a 2018 Sierra 1500 SLT 5.3L V8. I found a steal on offerup for a borla exhaust system. The part number is 19303332. However, the part number listed for my truck is 19303333 (verified with GMC customer service) I spoke with the guy and he claims the muffler package is for a Silverado but will fit a Sierra (hence the different model #) Has anyone come across this or can verify his claims? Links: 19303332- https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-parts/gm-exhaust-system-by-gm-19303332 19303333- https://accessories.gmc.com/product/3GTP1NEC7JG376770/53l-cat-back-dual-exit-exhaust-upgrade-system-by-borla®---associated-accessories-19303333?categoryId=12009
  21. I purchased a new 2016 gmc all terrain x in October 2016. I was watching a few YouTube videos of other guys all terrain X's and noticed a different exhaust. After looking at mine closer I think my dealership left the stock exhaust on instead of the upgraded performance exhaust. It looks like the stock exhaust is part #20757703 and the performance is 23442234. Can anyone verify? Any thoughts on how to approach this with the dealership since it's almost been two years since I bought the truck?
  22. Hey guys I am planning to change the transmission fluid on my 2007 Silverado (New Body) 4.8 4x4 here soon. My muffler recently wore a hole into it and rusted out a piece of the exhaust. Therefore, I am planning on replacing my entire system with this one from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00503PU70/?coliid=I365UW575WJD1C&colid=1GQFQXGWZEWEY&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it Anyway I have done some research and it looks like the exhaust system prevents the transmission pan from being dropped completely. For this reason, I would like to change my transmission fluid and filter while I am changing out the exhaust. It seems like it is going to save me a world of trouble. Also I am coming up on 95,000 miles and almost positive it has never been changed before. However, there are a lot of opinions on both the right way of doing this and the wrong way. I see a lot of people on YouTube removing the metal line from the front of the transmission radiator and letting the old fluid drain out that way while adding in new fluid. Then they stop when they see new fluid being pulled into the container and replace the filter then go on with life. I have heard other people say that this is gambling with your transmission and should not be done. Basically any advice and opinions would be greatly appreciated. I also heard to not get sucked into "fancy labels" when it comes to new fluid either. My local guy said you want to replace the fluid with exactly the same thing that is in there right now as it was not designed for anything else. I just looked in the manual and it says that it is DEXRON VI so probably going to go with this from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-10-9395-Dexron-Automatic-Transmission/dp/B01EKMGG92/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1526257467&sr=8-2&keywords=dexron+vi+automatic+transmission+fluid Let me know if you guys need anymore information. Any advice and direction you guys can give would be awesome.
  23. 2014 GMC Sierra (5.3) is in for various upgrades, so the following items will be available in about a week. NO REASONABLE OFFER REFUSED! -stock exhaust headers -20" OEM chrome rims -stock step bars -stock calipers/rotors/brake lines (50k miles) -stock air intake -1 autocal with unused blackbear tune -1 diablo tuning device (I need to check if tune can be transferred} -Rancho adjustable lift shocks
  24. Hey Y'all. I'm in need of some advice. I just recently bought a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado with a 5.3L V8 and its too quiet. I wanna give it that nice low rumble at idle but have it loud when you punch it. I don't wanna spend a whole lot of money so i'm hoping to stay away from a cat back system and lean more towards an exhaust. Was also planning on keeping the V4 mode as well so if it has drone issues let me know. I've heard of lots of people doing a Flow Master 40 with a resonator delete? Seems to be the most popular. Thanks in advance for the help!
  25. I just bought my first newish truck, being the 2014 Silverado 2wd z71 lt. It’s got the crew cab with 5.3l under the hood. I’m currently stationed at ft Stewart ga. Im just looking for some help or some advice on some upgrades I’d like to do to this truck and which products might be the best. - I’d like to change the headlights and fog lights from stock. - Put a leveling kit and some new (bigger) a/t tires on it and not sure what size being 2wd. - Change to an aftermarket air intake. - Do something about the shitty stock speakers (without Bose). Wether it be new door speakers and sub(s). Or be just subs and have a separate amp just for door speakers. Do I need a processor to hook up to stock 8” head unit. - How do I add any app or navigation to this stock 8” head unit - Exhaust? - How to get more performance from the truck. Anything would help, Thanks
