issue Tailgate Locking Problem

Hey guys. I bought the Tonno Pro Hard Fold cover last week for $500 shipped via Fedex to my front door. It gives you the quality of a true hard cover without losing the look of the sleek vinyl cover. It took me about 5 minutes to install. It's pouring down rain here in NC today and my bed is nice and dry. The cover could not fit any better. It's a tri-fold cover that has an aluminum base to give it 350 lbs of support covered in marine grade vinyl that has a 10 year warranty. The structure has a lifetime warranty. I highly recommend this cover if you haven't already bought one. I am having a problem with my locking tailgate. I am using the key that starts my engine and opens the driver door lock to lock the tailgate but it doesn't turn. I've tried turning it to the left and rights. It doesn't budge. Am I missing something? I want to have the ability to lock the tailgate if I have my golf clubs or other valuables stores in the back under the tonneau cover. Is there a problem with the lock or am I doing something wrong? Thanks. Here are some pics of the the Tonno Pro Hard Fold cover if anyone is interested. I am installing two led pods on my rear bumper, 2016 silverado 1500. I want to splice these pods to the cargo lights & bed led lights I have so the inside cargo switch in my center council will turn them on and off. I'm looking for a model that would allow me to turn all 3 lights on and off without needing to be I'm park... Is that possible? Appreciate and guidance! Thanks everyone! Funk

Hi everyone! Truck owners or prospective owners: How many of you remove your tailgate? And how often? Why do you remove your gate? I noticed GM trucks in 2017 have cables bolted on with a hex head, as opposed to previous years where the cable could be easily removed with a finger. Thoughts?

Is anyone experiencing issues with the factory tailgate lock? My key goes into the cylinder fine, turns about half-way and stops. The only thing that I have been able to do is flick (try to lock and unlock) the key in the lock repeatedly until it opens. I don't think there is anything wrong with the cylinder of the lock as at some point it does unlock (after multiple key flicks....20+) BUT now it has me concerned at some point I may not be able to unlock the tailgate. With a locking box cover that can only be opened with the tailgate open essentially locks me out of my box.

Adding an electric lock to the tailgate

Hi I’m looking to install an electric lock mechanism to the tailgate of my 2015 Silverado 1500. I know that I can purchase an aftermarket one that comes with a wiring harness that runs to a relay that gets added under the hood..... Does anyone know if there is already wiring at or near the tailgate, say at a plug under the bed for plug and play. Im thinking there might be one there from the factory. Or do they only run the wiring back on trucks that come with the lock from the factory? thanks Glen -
Wondering if anybody has shaved their tailgate to a 2014+ Silverado/Sierra...curious to know how it would look with the camera....I just want to know where rear view cameras are being placed....Im thinking on the very top of the tailgate looking down or right next to the license plate when I do it...any pictures would be great for the people who had done this already...thanks. -
Last Weekend I spend most of my time Building a PreRunner-Style Bed Tire carrier for my Silverado. I have always loved how Trophy Trucks and PreRunners Look with the Dual Spare Tires on The back, and wanted to incorporate some of that into my truck build, so I decided to learn how to cut tubing and weld, while making this build The total cost of this project was less than US$100.00 (without straps) Take into account that my execution is far from perfect, and that it has downsides, but maybe this Topic will help anyone else who would be interested on doing something like this and consider my mistakes, so, this is my philosophy: -Im a Mexican living in Mexico, our roads are FAR from good, and I have always carried 2 spare tires just in case (one on the stock location, one strapped on the bed) -I wanted to free the space the 2nd spare was taking on the bed, and I just wanted a Dual Tire carrier just because -I built it specifically to stock mounting locations for the stock tailgate, to be able to return the truck to Stock anytime -I dont haul heavy stuff, so, not having an opening tailgate is something I can live with -I wanted to keep my Tonneau Cover -It is solid mounted to the bed, so it also acts as a brace and improves overall bed strength -It helps with Weight distribution, helps the truck be less tail happy and smoother -Im planning to incorporate toolboxes on the carrier (Soon I hope) Here is the video of the Build, pics are attached: Hope You Enjoy Comments and Criticism is well received

Hey Forum, Just had linex sprayed in yesterday and needed some help finding screws to replace the factory ones which held in the plastic bed liner. After trying a few sizes, I finally found a perfect fit. My truck is a 2014 silverado with the short bed for reference, not sure if the tailgate setup differs between years or brand. Anyways, these #8 x 3/4" screws fit perfect. Picked them up at my local auto parts store for less than $3. Pictures below!

Good afternoon...I am getting a camper shell on my truck for my wife's business, she sells clothes that I need to keep clean and dry. I've done a quick search for tailgate seals and it seems there is anything from weather stripping from your big box stores, so what appear to be custom applications (they might just be lipstick on a pig)... Anyway...I don't mind paying a little extra, but want to find the best one possible for my '16 short bed. Does anyone have any success or horror stories that I should consider or stay away from? Hey guys, I am new to the forum and I just bought my first truck. 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT All-Terrain! The guy that had the truck before me put it on a leveling kit, some rancho shocks, tinted windows... It looks sharp... Only thing I don't like is that he had the GMC logo/emblems on the front grille and rear tailgate powder-coated a dark grey color (matches the Iridium exterior of the truck)... I know a lot of people like this, but I would prefer to have just the traditional red emblems.... Would anyone like to trade?

Already my tailgate assist feature does not work. It turns out a hinge is bent and/or wore out after 20k. Tomorrow I'll I'll install new parts. Looks like I'll need a star bit to Remove old hinge wondering it's size?. I Like the feature so got.new parts. I also Learned that paying 125.00 was a bIt much now that I see the parts. Surely do Think somebody would do Better ordering on-line. Unless you just want to Support your local dealer I Reported the malfunction to the Dealer at last oil change. They said it was a no go on my warranty claim. And then sold me these two parts. Gm# 23439650 and gm# 229669 -
New person here who has some questions for more knowledgeable chevy owners out there. I am attempting to install a regular alarm into my 2000 Silverado, on my alarm it only has (-) power lock and (-) unlock outputs. And I see that the car itself has both positive (+) power lock and unlock. Since I'm not installing a remote start to the vehicle, I didn't purchase any sort of bypass module for the passlock. Do I need it to connect my alarm to my car? Or do I convert the negative outputs to positive using relays? Also since I was adding the aftermarket alarm anyway, I was thinking of running a line to back and attaching it to the trunk pin to act as a sort of door trigger for the tailgate. Can this be done the way I'm thinking of? I want the alarm to go off if someone opens my tailgate. Sorry if I seem to be asking stupid questions. Thank you for your help. -

Well it's been bugging me for awhile now but has anyone else seen this issue before I bought the truck and noticed it within the first week and mentioned it to a few of my friends and family who own the same trucks. Some trucks where the gap between the cab and the box were out by 1/2" some not as much but all seem to have more gap on the driver side. But with mine it's bad, I can see the folded steel on box panel which is normally hidden by the cab in my side mirror. Advice? Similar scenario? Let me know -
I have a 2016 Silverado 1500. I purchased a LED light strip for the tailgate that plugs in using the 4 pin trailer harness and splice in the reverse light. I need HELP trying to get the running light functioning. If anyone knows how to get the running light function to work, please help me out!!! -
Hello all, First time post here, noticed today that when lowering my tailgate it would "creak", this was out of the norm so I started looking for lubrication points and found it is rubbing on the lower right side, I've attached pics. John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 3/5/2015 Pop and Lock, the tailgate security company, introduced its newest universal tailgate lock this month. The company says the PL9900 Gatekeeper works with any pickup truck. Intended to prevent tailgate theft, the device fits around the tailgate hinge and locks the tailgate to the truck. While in place, the tailgate can still be opened and closed. It works just like a padlock and retails for about $28. The company has more information at its website.

So, my key works in ignition, door, glove box, and center seat storage. It does not work in the tailgate or the spare tire lock. I insert the key and it just seems like it is not the correct key because there is no movement. I just bought it used (2011 1500 4X4 Crew Cab) and never thought to check those. I have tried WD40, but still no luck. Any ideas?

I have been looking for a while now and could not find anything. Does anyone have any good ideas for a way to cover the lower lip of a tailgate on a gmt800. On my previous truck and my current both have started to have the paint crack and a small amount of rust form there. I am trying to be preventative now and fixing it but I am looking for ways to cover the wound. I think the Avalanches come stock with this trim piece but I cannot find anything, in plastic or black, for my tailgate. It would be in the same place as the picture below but I would prefer plastic or any ideas you may have.
