  1. Hey guys I'm in need of some help on my 2005 2500HD. The truck is a 6.0l 4wd and it has 201,000 miles. When I put it in 4hi and start moving it makes a weird pop noise and I can feel it kind of jerk. It started doing this when i would go over say 40mph but now it does it even when i pull out of a parking spot. This is while driving on snow not even dry pavement. It drives fine in 2wd but as soon as I put it in 4hi it acts up. I have a sneaking suspicion this is the transfer case taking a shit. Has anybody had a problem like this? Could the transfer case just be low on fluid? Or is this a front hub taking a shit? I'm in college right now so I need make certain what the problem could be before I dish out $2,000 for a transfer case. Also there is fluid leaking out from the transmission crossmember by the frame, not much just enough to make it wet, it doesn't drip at all. Thanks.
  2. I could use some help. Long time member... I don't post unless I can't find the info in the archives. My 1996 GMC K3500 had its 4wd stop working the other day. Thought the thermal actuator was the issue, so changed it to a new one, but still have no 4wd. There is power on the line going to the actuator. I have not checked to see if the new actuator is working or not (haven't pulled it out to see if it extends when 12v is applied). My transfer case has the floor shift, and I'm *assuming* that it's shifting is all manual, with no electronics involved (right or wrong?)... Transfer case doesn't make any grinding noises... and no grinding or clicking from front end at all. Just replaced the drivers side wheel bearing/hub assembly before noticing 4wd wasn't working. Could be coincidence, or could the mechanic (my friend) who put the wheel bearing/hub assembly in have done something to foul up the 4wd? I understand if you pull the right axle out too far, a thrust washer can be dropped and mess up 4wd operation--but this was the left (driver's side) axle that got the new hub assembly. I'm hoping that the fact that I've not heard any grinding or popping is an indicator that the mechanics of the system are all okay. I guess that's not a 100 percent indicator, but still, all sounds well when driving down the road. Is there some electronics on the transfer case that could be causing the problem? Or is the only electronic part of this system that thermal actuator (which I've already replaced)? 4wd 25 amp fuse is good, by the way, and there is power going to the actuator on the wiring harness side. It's a cheap Autozone actuator (Duralast, I believe) so I guess it's possible that it's a defective part, new from the box. :/ Any help appreciated. Dan
  3. I have a 04 chevy 2500 & my 4wd don't work. Here's what I did if I raised all four tires up & put the truck in drive all four wheels turn but if you lower the front tires to the ground they stop & the back tires keep turning. I know the problem is in my transfer case but not sure where. The transfer case doesn't make any noise. I've owed this truck for three years & last year put new chain & gears in the transfer case. It drives fine in 2wd . Yes front end actuator is working
  4. Greetings all. Was hoping to get some insight on an issue we're having on a NP263C Transfer case. The truck is a 1990 Chev K2500 with a manual 4x4 shifter on the floor. We've had the trans rebuilt and the transfer case rebuilt with a rebuild kit. The problem is, the transfer case selector will randomly pop out of 2H which renders the truck into only a PTO mode. It shifts into the 4x4 gear fine but the manual shifter just pops out of 2H every now and then. The shifter is very, very loose, even though we had the transfer case rebuilt. Does this sound like a problem in the case it self or the gear shifter is somehow bad? Thank you for your help. Mark
  5. So I have a 2000 GMC sierra 2500 4wd and got the typical problem. I have a service 4wd drive light on. The ATC fuse was blown and now that I put a new one it should be functional. The transfer case push button switch will flash on and cycle then turn right off. Its not that or the actuator. I have tried both and returned the parts I tried, so that im not just throwing money at it. If there isn't enough fluid in the transfer case or needs changing will it cause the 4wd to shutdown? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Hi, Happy new year. too late? I've a 99 GMC Suburban 2500 with 6.5 diesel. I'm struggling with 4wd system now. Few weeks ago, Big snow and freezing rain in my place and I notice that my 4wd was not working. only rear wheels turning but front wasn't turn. Like most guys did, I replaced 4wd actuator in front diff but it was same. I lifted up my 'burban and put 4wd and I found front axle was turning but wasn't fast. Next, I lifted one steer wheel and other wheels on the ground. tried to turn in 4wd mode. It was hard but I could turn it. I checked both shafts on transfer case. front was turning while I turned a wheel. I checked with scanner(Autoenginuity). No active code on transfer case control module. If someone has any idea, I'll try. If someone know what value should be changed in scanner when I changed mod from 2wd to 4hi, let me know. weak encoder motor? bad control module? bad wire? bad clutch in transfer case? Any Idea welcomed.^^
  7. I have a 2003 GMC Sierra 1500hd SLE with 95,xxx miles. I starded having an issue where my truck would shift into 4hi by itself after about 20-30 minutes of driving. I used to be able to just put it back into 2hi. Then it became more finicky and I had to shift to AUTO 4wd, then into 2hi. Now it rarely lets me shift into 2hi, and never into 4lo. I am a first time truck owner and have only owned this truck for 6 months. I think it may just be an electrical issue because the truck started having some random electrical issues. Whenever I use my turn signals my left signal indicator stays illuminated for 5-10 seconds. And when I turn on my cabin light it flickers sometimes. I also have an issue where whenever I go over 70 on the highway my CEL flashes. I'm a broke college student and I refust to take it to the stealership until I have done everything I can to fix the problem myself. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
  8. t-case_badge_and_shift_buttons.bmpHello, Thanks for the help from the previous post. I'm looking for a reputable online company who can sell a Transfer Case to me. I have found a few but I'm not sure which "option" I have. What does SS mean regarding this T-Case? I have a 2003 Silverado 1500HD LT 6.0L V8. The current transfer case has the following info on the plate: Model 246 GM ASSY NO. 12577835 Serial NO. 71702K1 Ratio 272 I have the push button 4WD selector. t-case_badge_and_shift_buttons.bmp t-case_badge_and_shift_buttons.bmp t-case_badge_and_shift_buttons.bmp
